Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Getting Ready to Go
*Thud*
The pain of the book hitting my foot snapped me out of the shock of being jump-scared by my stealthy grandmother, it also made me stumble over the suitcase I was walking next to causing me to fall into the side of the dresser. The door of the dresser swung open, revealing a writhing mass of black inkiness, a bogart. I stared into this abyss-like blackness and the bogart writhed trying to discover what I feared most, but a prickle appeared in the back of my mind which turned into a whisper. 'Such an annoying itch, trying to look through my mind. Why doesn't it just stop that? I suppose to stop that it would have to die, so why doesn't it just die?"
The next thing I knew the bogart vanished or that's what it seemed as it popped into a cloud of smoke and was no longer there, all that was left in its place was an empty dresser and a small rodent body. "What happened to the bogart? And what is this strange little mouse?" My gran said while helping me off of the floor. "I don't know it just disappeared in a puff of smoke and the mouse was all that was left." After thinking for a few seconds about the disappearance of the bogart my grandma replied "Let's take the mouse to Elizabeth she is a potions mistress so she may know what it is. Now hurry upstairs, I have left your best dress robes on your bed to get changed into them since we will be leaving shortly."
Walking up the stairs I reflected on what happened until a thought struck me. 'I willed it to be dead to stop its annoying mental probe, I caused the bogart to die, didn't I? I should be careful of what I think and say in the future just in case I will for something bad to happen in a moment of emotion and come to regret it later.' Reaching my room I found a navy blue coloured dress robe lying on my bed with a white button-down shirt and black trousers, Erik always loved blue so it was a good choice. Leaving my clothes there I went to the bathroom and got undressed before hopping into the bath to clean off all of the grim from my body.
After my bath, I dried off before wearing the dress robes and making my way down to find my grandma in a presentable ensemble of an evening dress of deep purple and a lighter purple coat to go with it. "You ready to go, Erik? Mipsy has finished packing the suitcases into the carriage and readied the horses so we are just waiting for you." I finished coming down the stairs and replied "Yes Gran I am all ready, how long will the journey be?" Straightening the collar of my shirt Gran said "It will be about a 4-hour journey from our house here to the destination in England, will you be alright?" As I nodded my affirmation we left towards the carriage and climbed aboard, Mipsy being the driver for this expedition.
During the journey, my gran was reading Transfiguration Today which was a popular academic paper that spoke about the various up-and-coming masters in transfiguration and any discoveries that have been submitted to the transfiguration board for verification and review. I on the other hand was lazily looking out the window while making my magic circulate through my body fast little while keeping control over it, it was a very slow process that took my full concentration which is why I didn't realise my grandmother was talking to me until she shook me. "Erik dear I asked you when you learned how to levitate that book back in the library." I looked towards her before pouting and saying "I just felt like I could do it so I tried and only just managed it when you came it and scared me."
"You must be a genius, your father was a genius too and your mother was such a sweet girl. Here try to make this float," she said handing me a small gold coin before looking at me expectantly. Not one to upset a lady I held the coin in my right hand and repeated the steps I did back in the library, focusing my will and intent to make it float and to my surprise it did. What surprised me wasn't that the coin began to float but the ease with which I could focus my will and intent this time. "Congratulations dear, you may even be a better magical prodigy than your father or even those young kids Albus or Gellert."
Before I could process what she had said the carriage gave a small lurch as it started to descend as we reached our destination, "It looks like we are here dear, I cannot wait to rub it into Elizabeth's face that you cast magic before her lovely grandchild. Oh and before I forget, make sure you are on your best behaviour as this party is your fiancé's 6th birthday. Don't worry I have picked out a gift for you to give to her, here." Gran said passing me a small box wrapped in pink colour wrapping paper. We landed shortly after and Mipsy opened my door allowing me to step out and then help Gran down from the carriage like a proper gentleman should.
"Sasha, long time no see I am so glad you were able to make it. oh and is this your handsome little grandson?" A stunningly beautiful woman in a flowing green dress said as she approached and hugged my grandmother.
"Yes Elizabeth this is young Erik, he has a gift to give to Daphne." My Gran said pushing me forward like a sacrifice, the next thing I knew I was embraced by a heavenly sensation as the woman pulled me off my feet into a hug, smothering me in her bosom.
