Harry Potter Isn’t Holding Back Anymore

December 31, 1995, 7:00pm Sunday, Sandringham Palace. The Queen and her entourage were seen walking to Mass, as usual. What was unusual, were the three added people to that entourage: Hermione Granger, Dr. Helen Granger, and Dr. Peter Granger. In Hermione's pocket was a waiver to use magic for December 31, 1995 and January 1, 1996, signed and stamped by Madam Bones herself.

At 8:30pm, the entourage was seen walking back to the Palace. What nobody else saw however, was how they walked through the palace to the rear servants entrance, loaded onto a Bakers truck, which then exited the palace grounds with no fanfare. The remaining staff were lead off the property through the rear grounds, away from paparazzi, to waiting trucks, and then whisked away. A similar process was taking place at Buckingham Palace.

Once all staff were off the grounds, a team from the Response Unit arrived at each location to help set up the traps. Two-foot diameter by 5 foot long pipes were placed in the Queens apartment within the Palace. Two holes were drilled at the top of the pipe near the entrance. A rope was fed in through one hole and out the other. A knot secured the rope at one hole. The rope inside the pipe was adjusted to the diameter of the pipe, creating a noose. A modified L-7 trap trigger was used in the design of the trap: a flexible steel bar was welded at the far (exit) end of the pipe with a spring attached (this served as the spring pole). A slot was cut across the top of the pipe about one-and-a-half feet from the end. A wooden notched paddle with a hole at the top served as the trigger. Paracord was tied to the spring on one end, and to the hole in the wooden paddle on the other end. The length of Paracord between the spring and paddle was adjusted to give the spring enough tension to pull the rope noose tight. The loose end of the noose rope was then tied to the spring. The spring was anchored by carefully balancing the notch on the paddle to the slot on the pipe. The concept of the trap was that the snake would enter the pipe, pass through the rope noose, then push on the paddle trigger trying to pass, thus dislodging it. This released the spring which would pull the noose tight and activate the portkey.

The pipes were placed a few feet from the doorway inside the apartment. Traffic spike strips and wooden crates were used to corral the snake from the door towards the pipe. A goat was tied to the leg of an armoire just beyond the pipe's reach. A trail of goat's blood was made leading from the grounds into the palace, to the apartments. Once everything was set up, the Response Unit troops vacated the premises back to base. At each location, either Midshipman Fenix or the Sensei remained, sitting on the next floor up. Both were given portkeys created by Madam Bones to portkey to grounds outside the concrete gas-training house. The Queens Guards were equipped with mirror-like sunglasses and instructed to wear them at all times, and not to wander on the grounds. Outside the concrete gas-training building, Response Unit Marines were stationed with weapons equipped with the modified bullets. They too were equipped with the mirror-like sunglasses.

December 31, 1995. ~21:00 hours (9pm) – Helicopter. Hermione was escorting the Queen. She had been for the last two hours, but…..The Queen! And now, for the third time of her life, she was flying in a helicopter. The Queen's helicopter! It was a LOT to take in for a 16-year old girl. She finally noticed the Queen was asking her a question. "I'm terribly sorry your Majesty. It's just….I'm sooo…." She began. "Overwhelmed?" the Queen asked. "Y e s? Yes! Overwhelmed is an apt term" Hermione replied. "Why?" asked the Queen. "Well. Evan, umm, Midshipman Fenix is my boyfriend. It was …..just this morning (?) he told me about the snake, then he called the Commander, then we did research, then we flew by helicopter to the base to continue planning, then we designed and built the traps, and now here I am escorting your Majesty. And we're still on the same day! It's like a week has gone by in my mind but it's only been not even a day. It is hard to imagine everything that has gone on since Evan, umm Midshipman Fenix, began his leave on December 20th." Hermione began.

"What happened, Dear" prompted the Queen. "Evan, Midshipman Fenix"…"Just call him Evan, Dear." Interjected the Queen…"Yes, ma'am. Evan came for dinner on the 20th. Our house was attacked by 20 terrorists. Evan defeated the terrorists and saved us. Then we helped with planning the defense of Christ Church on the 22nd, and were there on the 23rd when the terrorists attacked. Later that evening, the magical police attacked our residence – Evan was there waiting for them, and captured them; and now this. We were hoping to have a week to get to know each other better before I go back to school and he goes back to the base; maybe go to an amusement park or the theater, perhaps see a movie. Now that will have to wait until Easter break or his next leave." Hermione concluded in a rush. "Hermione, is it?" Hermione nodded.

"Hermione, Dear – the life of a soldier is a difficult one to begin with. To be a Royal Marine Commando, even more so. From the looks of it, your Evan may also end up an Officer. Things being the way they are on the world stage, it is likely he will be deployed in a year. Combat changes a person, Dear. Are you sure you want to wait that long, or deal with the emotional turmoil soldiers return with?" the Queen asked. "He is a good person. I've waited this long – I'm willing to wait to see where it goes." Hermione replied. Hermione discovered that the Queen, once you got past that she WAS the Queen, behaved in a most grandmotherly fashion. They continued to talk throughout the flight to Balmoral Castle, and later into the night. They talked about all kinds of things, including the state of the Wizarding world, the discrimination Hermione encountered as a 'muggle-born', about what happened to Harry Potter, and more.

January 1, 1996. 6:00am. Evan sat in an apartment on the 4th floor of the Sandringham Palace, meditating. He entered Mu-Shin, then began pushing Haragei outward. Lastly, he began the Kuji-Kiri. A similar sequence was playing out at Buckingham Palace.

Time – 08:00am. Evan and Sensei continued meditating, otherwise there was no movement on the palaces.

Time – 09:00am. No change. Evan and Sensei continued meditating.

Time – 09:10am. Buckingham Palace. A ripple in the fabric. A moment later Sensei felt the presence of the snake in the lawn area behind (southwest of) Buckingham Palace. "Incoming, Buckingham" he said into his mic. He didn't move – he just monitored where the snake was. It made its way to the Conservatory on the west corner of the Palace complex; then to the north wing, up the outside stairs to the colonnade; up one of the columns just outside the Queens Bedroom.

Sensei knew that if the snake made it into the Bedroom, the trap would be facing the wrong way, and they would not catch it. He quickly ran down to the Queen's Dressing room, one room to the north, and began pacing back and forth. He made sure his body heat was potentially visible to the snake's senses. He knew that it could feel the vibrations of his footsteps. After pausing at the bedroom window, the snake continued over to the Queen's Dressing Room window. Without looking at the window, Sensei paced once again, slowly making his way to the north entrance to the Bedroom and the entrance to the trap. He heard the tinkling of the glass window breaking just as he entered the Bedroom. 

Sensei leaped over the trap to where the goat was tied, hid himself using kuji-kiri, and averted his gaze away from the trap. The snake entered the bedroom, it's body sinusoidally undulating as it moved forward, it's tongue periodically poking out to taste the air. As soon as it came to the blood trail it turned sharply to the right, increasing its speed of advancement. A few seconds later, it came to the entrance of the pipe. It stopped, hesitantly looking left and right, but could not see any other way but forward. The snake tentatively poked its head into the pipe, tasting the air, moving its head back and forth.

Sensing nothing unusual (except the blood trail) it inched forward cautiously. It passed over some rope as it entered the pipe, inching forward, hissing its tongue out. Inch by inch it moved until it was a little more than half way through. There was a little protrusion from above. Not sensing any danger, it continued forward towards the bleating of the goat. It pushed against the little protrusion it had noted before when all of a sudden, it felt the rope tightening around it. It saw a flash as it was portkeyed away from its target. "Snake Away" could be heard over the comm.

Time – 09:11am. Sandringham Palace. Evan felt a ripple in the fabric. "Incoming, Sandringham" he mumbled in his mic. The snake had arrived in the grassy area just west of the Estate building complex, and made its way to the north residence annex. Evan focused to mask his heat signature and odor, and to hide himself using kuji-kiri. After hearing from Sensei, he also made his way to the apartment adjacent to the Queens bedroom, to make sure the snake would enter from the correct direction. Once there, he unmasked his heat signature and began pacing heavily. The snake found a rainwater drain pipe beside one of the entrances, and made its way up to the second floor balcony. From there, it squeezed through one of the open windows and made its way inside the residences. It sat in the corridor for a moment, swinging its head from side to side, tasting the air. Evan felt this snake exude pride in its accomplishment – it was confident it would not fail its master. It appeared very sentient, and capable of ignoring the trail of goat's blood. It wanted to find the Queen herself.
