Harry Potter: Journey to Godhood

Chapter 428: Chapter 428: Possibility of Resurrection

The awkward conversation didn't last long. After all, the group hadn't forgotten their ultimate purpose: to find Medivh and eliminate Sargeras.

As for uncovering the truth? Since Aegwynn had arrived, that step could be skipped entirely.

This woman already knew all the truths.

"...In fact, before I came to Stormwind to warn you, I had already fought him," Aegwynn recounted her experiences in a sorrowful tone.

"By chance, I discovered that he was the one who brought the orcs into Azeroth. You know, those orcs are nothing but pawns of the demons.

That corrupt, chaotic scent in their bodies— I could smell it from hundreds of meters away. So, I went to confront Medivh, my dear child.

I demanded to know why he did this, why he abandoned his lifelong duty and entangled himself with the servants of our enemy."

"And what happened?" Lothar pressed, "Did you lose?"

He could only assume so— it was the only explanation for what had happened afterward.

Aegwynn nodded slowly.

"Yes, I lost." The mage's voice was filled with grief and regret. "My arrogance and foolishness not only harmed my child but also hurt my friends… I…"

At this point, she covered her face, unwilling to let anyone see the expression she wore.

To everyone's astonishment, Alaric stepped forward and gently embraced Aegwynn, patting her shoulder comfortingly.

His actions were so natural it was as if their relationship warranted such intimacy.

What shocked Lothar and Khadgar even more was that Aegwynn didn't resist. Instead, she leaned into Alaric's shoulder.

Goodness! This was the Guardian of the previous generation— a legendary mage, a figure who had lived nearly a millennium, and Medivh's mother, no less— effectively Lothar's elder.

And here was a seventeen-year-old mage, younger than even Khadgar, holding her like this, and she accepted it?

Should they praise Alaric for his charm, or marvel at his audacity?

Could it be that a mage's allure increased proportionally with their genius?

Regardless of their sour feelings, Aegwynn soon regained her composure.

She hadn't actually cried. As a Guardian of centuries, she could suppress such emotions. Her momentary sadness was fleeting.

"He explained to me that his goal was to break free from the world I had constructed for him, to shatter the shackles of power I had given him…" Aegwynn continued in a low voice.

"At first, I was heartbroken, but soon, I caught his slip. He said he wanted to become the king of the orcs. That's a thought Medivh would never entertain."

"Exactly," Alaric interjected. "A mage would never waste their efforts on ruling. For a mage, that's entirely counterproductive!"

Lothar and Khadgar nodded in agreement.

Dalaran was a prime example.

Its governance was a council system. Was it truly because no one could rule Dalaran outright?

Of course not. It was simply because mages had no desire to expend significant effort on ruling. Yet, Dalaran required order to exist.

Thus, the council system was born— a shared responsibility among many.

"After I exposed him, Sargeras revealed himself and attacked me—using the very powers I had taught him."

Aegwynn's tone carried an unshakable regret. "With those powers, he easily overpowered me. But I wasn't without allies. I summoned Arcanagos, the blue dragon…"

"The blue dragon! Arcanagos!" Khadgar exclaimed, interrupting her.

"Yes. If you've studied my history, you'd know that I've always allied with the dragons in fighting demons, including the time I defeated Sargeras," Aegwynn explained.

"Of course, of course," Khadgar said, now visibly excited. "I've seen visions of your feats here!"

"Have you?" Aegwynn acknowledged the visions' existence and continued. "The dragons have always been my stalwart allies.

But this time, I failed them. Arcanagos was burned to mere bones by Sargeras. And to counter me, he also drained the lives of many nobles visiting Karazhan at the time."

"So that's what happened!" Lothar exclaimed in realization. He had heard of the incident, as many of those nobles hailed from Stormwind.

The mass deaths of nobility were unprecedented. "We thought they'd fallen to bandits or trolls. I even led men to scour the entirety of Duskwood back then."

"Fortunately… Medivh still retained his self-awareness," Aegwynn sighed. "In a critical moment, Medivh's consciousness restrained Sargeras, allowing me to escape."

"My condolences, madam," Lothar said, shaking his head, mourning the fate of his dear friend.

"Our condolences," Khadgar and Garona echoed.

"I… I'll manage," Aegwynn said resolutely. "But I must emphasize, we must kill Sargeras swiftly. If his plans continue, demons will invade this world and destroy it.

To defeat Sargeras, my child's soul is the key. We must find him before Sargeras completely consumes his soul. At the crucial moment, he will hold Sargeras back for us."

"But… what about Medivh himself?" Lothar asked, almost in despair. "As you said, Sargeras occupies his body. To kill Sargeras, we'd essentially be killing Medivh."

"…Yes." After a moment's hesitation, Aegwynn steeled herself and spoke with finality. "Yes, we must. That… is the duty of the Guardian."

"I see… I understand." Lothar closed his eyes, reopening them moments later with newfound determination.

"If that's the way it must be, so be it!" The warrior cast aside his doubts and made his final choice.

Khadgar also forced himself to abandon the feelings he held for his wise, kind, and broad-minded mentor.

Watching the three resolve themselves, Alaric sighed deeply.

Compared to the other two, Medivh's death would impact Aegwynn the most.

Though she was a mage who ought to be detached, her decision to pass all the Guardian's power to Medivh showed that Aegwynn, as a mother, had placed significant emotions and expectations on her child.

With this, Alaric produced a black stone inscribed with peculiar markings.

It bore the mark of the Deathly Hallows.

The stone was the Resurrection Stone, a relic from the world of Harry Potter.

"This stone has unique effects on souls," Alaric explained to Aegwynn.

"Even someone without magical skill can use it to summon fragments of the dead's soul—no matter how long they've been gone or how powerful or weak their soul was.

I haven't tested it, but with the right magic, we might be able to retrieve Medivh's soul."

"Re-really?" Aegwynn grabbed both the Resurrection Stone and Alaric's hand tightly, as if clinging to a lifeline. "This stone… can it really do that?"

She cared nothing for the physical body.

For mages like her, as long as the soul was intact, creating a body through necromancy, crafting a magical golem, or cultivating one genetically were all trivial matters.

"Of course," Alaric nodded.

"Wonderful! Thank you!" Tears finally spilled from Aegwynn's eyes—tears of relief and joy.

She clung to Alaric tightly, as though holding on to the entire world.
