Chapter 29: A sense of unease
Morpheus stood still, the soft white snow clung to his robes. He stood in the center of an array of crimson blood that seemed to drag down the theme of happiness and joy the holidays usually bring.
Any living creatures in the forest seemed to actively avoid stepping in the general direction of his location.
A dark feeling of corrosion and depravity seemed to fill the atmosphere. Morpheus took a single step, and the crunching of his shoes on the snow seemed to boom throughout the eery forest.
If one were to look closer at Morpheus one would notice his steps seemed unusually heavy there was no sign of his usual graceful gait.
From his robes, Morpheus pulled out a silver dagger. He sneered, "A mere low-level demon was able to pressure me so much, it seems I've lost my touch,"
Truthfully it's been many years since Morpheus had a real battle that made him struggle, this stagnated his growth and made him more complacent.
without a challenge how was one supposed to grow?
Morpheus knelt in the snow beside the gargantuan body of the demonized Marcus Note.
*shicckk* his dagger swiftly tore through the demon's skin and like a surgeon Morpheus began to dissect the creature of sin.
Carefully Morpheus removed the vocal cords, the heart, and the ribs.
Although the body was still technically human a demon did reside in Marcus for a short period of time, and this produced a qualitative and demonic change in his organs and bones.
Morpheus took out a black pouch and began removing several wooden containers. Each seemed to be carved from a beautiful black tree with small gold carvings around the outside.
He swiftly transferred the organs into the containers. He then packed the ribs into a longer box that looked like a sword casing.
After putting everything back into his pouch Morphues stood and turned around with his head up to face the stars.
Without the use of an extraordinary astrology spell, Morpheus would have had to resort to more difficult measures.
Morpheus closed his eyes and seemed to balance himself, softly he began to repeat the cleansing ritual as he did before.
He could spiritually feel his body begin to balance out. After a short pause, Morpheus reopened his eyes. Inside his mirror-like eyes, the previous fight could be seen replaying.
It was like Morpheus was replaying the feed, dissecting it, learning from it, and understanding where he went wrong.
Calmly Morpheus began to walk away from the gruesome scene. As he left Morpheus brandished his wand and pointed it behind him, "purgare flammas" (purifying flames)
A mesmerizing golden flame poured from his wand burning away any evidence of a fight ever taking place. More importantly, the spell seemed to destroy the lingering demonic essence.
Putting away his wand Morpheus murmured, "Negary,"
Negary flew from the sky and landed safely on Morphues's shoulder, "Negary we have an issue, the demons managed to find a way to enter the human realm. They do this by possessing humans, most likely by feeding a human their blood, and then destroying the poor soul mentally until they feel the only way out is to let the demon have its way. I need you to find anyone who has the stench of a demon on them. I don't care how long this takes this task is of the utmost importance,"
Negary gave a loud "CAW!" before flapping his wings and flying away in the night sky
One might wonder how it was possible for a human to digest demonic blood when demons can't even leave their realm.
It's simple really, by utilizing the cracks in the veil demons can control their blood or other small objects to travel through the veil and then find a suitable target. This method is painstaking to perform and takes the typical demon several years to even send a small amount of blood over. They can then use the person who ingested their blood to summon them in this case, the demon would be far weaker than their actual strength. This new method is worrying.
This same method is used by Angels to bless people.
Gods also use it to send an avatar to the human world, much like what Gaia did to me. The strength of the avatar is limited to the amount of power the God is able to sneak through.
*Morpheus pov*
After leaving the forest I used a portkey to travel to the forbidden forest, back to where one of my labs was located.
Walking into the storage area I put the vocal cords, lungs, and ribs away.
Taking the heart I traveled to my manor in Greece. An uneasy feeling was still stuck deep in my soul, if the demons had such a method whose to say the other races didn't?
And how many people have already been taken over?
This is where my divination skills fail me. When it concerns a higher level of being like these monsters it is almost impossible to get a precise answer.
At most, I would achieve a blurry outline or hint. I was only able to use the Artemis ritual because at the time Marcus was still human if I had done it while his body was taken over I would have gotten a much more vague answer.
All things considered, my results are much better than if any other divination master tried.
Finally, I reached my basement. Looking down at the black sludge-like substance I smiled. My magnum opus was progressing nicely.
Taking the demonic heart I began to chant slowly while lowering the heart.

Arriving back at the castle I walked through the halls toward Ravenclaw tower.
As I neared the tower Professor Abara turned the corner, as he spotted me a large smile blossomed on his face.
"Professor Morpheus, Just the man I wanted to see!" His smile shined brightly like the stars
"Professor Abara, what can I help you with?" I asked cordially
He laughed lightly, "Ah! I don't need your help, my friend, I was wondering if you noticed it. The stars seemed to shine especially bright for just a few minutes then they returned to normal. How fascinating is that!? I've never seen something like it before, I wonder if it means something?"
I laughed slightly brightening my smile, "Ah? You caught it too, I saw it and immediately began to observe the sky, but I couldn't find anything. These next couple of days I'm planning to review my divination notes to see if I missed something important," my tone matched his enthusiasm
"Brilliant! You must tell me if you find anything, I will be carrying out my own research of course." He replied with a hearty laugh
"You must let me know if you discover anything, my friend," I said patting his shoulder
"Not to worry Professor you will be the first to hear, well I won't keep you for long. We must meet up soon to discuss this further," He added
I nodded enthusiastically, "Yes we must,"
Soon we parted ways, and I wondered how he would react if he found out my spell was the cause of the phenomenon.
Reaching the Ravenclaw tower I ascended the stairs. Eventually, I reached the top and was met with the sight of Helena Ravenclaw overlooking the lands of Hogwarts.
"Helena," I spoke softly so as not to scare her she was obviously not very focused
She spun around, "Lord Morpheus," she said softly I could sense fear in her tone
I sighed softly while walking over to stand beside her.
"I found it," I said softly
She perked up instantly, "Really? May I see it!?" she sounded relieved
"Yes come see me soon and I will show you it," I replied while looking at the scenery
"Thank you," she said softly
"Helena, your mother was one of my dearest friends. And I only have a few of those. What I did to you was a dishonor to her memory and to myself, and for that I am sorry," I said still not turning to face her
I could feel her surprise, after all, I never apologize. I've done things in my past that would make even the most cruel dark wizard blanch. And yet I felt remorseful over the feelings of a ghost? It was almost laughable.
"Thank you," she replied softly her voice barely above a whisper
With that, I turned around and left.
