Harry Potter: The Dark ages

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: The Hidden Danger of the Hogwarts Express

It was still early, but Mr. Potter had to meet Arthur Weasley to discuss the modification materials before going to work at the Ministry of Magic.

The Hogwarts Express was scheduled to depart at eleven o'clock sharp, which was an awkward time. Mrs. Potter and Mrs. Shafik both had their own busy schedules and couldn't send the children to the platform.

So, both families woke up very early, allowing Mr. Potter to take them along.

It was inconvenient to bring James and Gary along for the car modification. Mr. Potter gave them a handful of pounds and told them to go to McDonald's near the station to buy something and rest for a while, and they could board the Hogwarts Express at ten o'clock.

James, like Gary, had sent his owl to the Owl Shed at Hogwarts in advance.

The two of them bid farewell to Mr. Potter, carried their luggage into McDonald's, ordered some snacks, and ate while looking out the window.

James and Gary usually lived in Godric's Hollow, where Muggles and Wizards coexisted, and sometimes visited London. They were not timid in front of Muggles and weren't particularly surprised by Muggle-exclusive gadgets.

The two of them idly chewed on their fries. As time slowly crept to 9:30 AM, Gary and James saw Alfrina struggling on the street like a headless fly, dragging a heavy suitcase with her right hand and carrying a noticeable snow owl cage with her left.

"Al, Al!" James ran out.

"Hi, James!" Alfrina greeted him with the hand holding the cage. The snow owl in the cage flapped its wings twice, letting out a dissatisfied cry.

"Why are you here so early?" Gary came out behind James, carrying both their luggage.

"I didn't know where Platform Nine and Three-Quarters was, so to be safe, I came early," Alfrina said.

The three of them checked the time and decided to head to the platform to rest on the Hogwarts Express.

The three of them carried their respective luggage, with Gary carrying Alfrina's snow owl, Rose, as they hurried towards the platform.

The King's Cross Station wasn't very busy at the moment. The waiting hall was empty, with only a few scattered guards and travelers.

"Isn't it too conspicuous for us to go in like this?" James whispered to Gary.

One platform had a large plastic sign with a "9" on it, and the other platform had a large plastic sign with a "10" on it, and there was nothing in between them.

"Al, Platform Nine and Three-Quarters is simply walking through the ticket barrier between the two platforms," Gary explained to Alfrina. "Only those of us with magic can enter this passage."

"It's that simple?" Alfrina said incredulously. "I thought I'd have to recite some complicated spell or something."

"James, you go in first and give Alfrina a demonstration. She and I will cover for you." Gary placed the luggage on both sides of the passage and then stacked the snow owl cage on top.

Alfrina followed suit. Now, luggage was stacked at the entrance of the passage, almost as tall as them, leaving only a small opening for James to pass through.

James, carrying his luggage, looked around at the guards while walking towards the passage. Gary then passed behind him and pushed James hard. James pressed against the wall and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

"Cool!" Alfrina was impressed by Gary's cover-up skills.

"Hurry up, staying here too long will attract attention." Gary first sent Alfrina's pet cage through.

The wall seemed to not exist for Gary; his hand easily passed through it and then retracted, empty.

Alfrina laboriously picked up her luggage, leaned forward, and rushed in.

Now, Gary was the only Wizard left on the Muggle World platform. Fortunately, the guards' attention wasn't on these two platforms. Gary pretended to be nonchalant, observing if any Muggle trains were arriving, and quietly pushed the luggage through with one hand.

Then he made a dash and directly plunged into the wall.

The original wall had now become a wrought-iron archway, with "Platform 9" written above it.

James and Alfrina stood beside him with their luggage. The entire platform now only had the three of them.

"The train hasn't arrived yet." James pulled out his wand. There was no fear of detection by the Trace inside the platform, so they could use spells freely. James held his wand and drew a circle in the air, and a silvery-white mist emerged from the tip of the wand.

The mist formed the shape of a clock face in the air, with an hour and minute hand displaying the time.

"Eleven more minutes," Gary said, pulling out a bag of fries from his luggage.

"Do you want some?" he asked the two of them.

"I do!" James grabbed a large handful from the bag.

Gary found James's stomach to be like a bottomless pit. He had eaten four slices of bread on the way to London that morning, then a burger, a bag of fries, and a cola at McDonald's, and now he still wanted to eat more.

Gary looked at James's still flat stomach.

"I don't want any," Alfrina waved her hand, patted her stomach, and declined the high-calorie food.

Gary picked up the remaining half-bag of fries and started eating. He wasn't afraid of getting fat either, but he couldn't eat as much as James.

The Hogwarts Express soon came puffing in, and the deep red steam engine stopped by the platform.

The sign hanging on the train read: Hogwarts Express, Eleven O'Clock.

"Let's get on the train and find a place to rest." James led the way, pulling open the train door directly with his luggage in hand.

Gary and Alfrina followed behind James.

"This train doesn't have a ticket inspector?" Alfrina asked curiously after walking around the entire carriage.

"What do we need a ticket seller for?" James asked strangely. "The train doesn't charge money."

"We should enter according to tickets, like the anti-counterfeiting marks used by Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, to verify everyone who boards the Hogwarts Express." Alfrina frowned. As a newcomer to the magic world, she felt that the way things were done here was very lax.

"Anyone with magic can enter this platform. What if a Dark Wizard or someone like that directly enters the Express and attacks the students? There are too many young students; who will be responsible if something happens?" Alfrina continued, and James was dumbfounded.

"That makes a lot of sense, Alfrina," Gary said after thinking for a moment. "After school starts, we can report this situation to Headmaster Dumbledore."

It was indeed a good suggestion. Only after Alfrina mentioned it did Gary realize how unsafe the Hogwarts Express truly was. If a train full of underage Wizards encountered an anti-social Dark Wizard, the Express wouldn't be going to Hogwarts, but to hell.

The three continued to chat to pass the time. Now, the number of people on the platform was gradually increasing. Some parents sending their children also came in with them. The three exchanged glances; this issue had to be reported to the Principal of Hogwarts, Professor Dumbledore, as soon as possible.
