Harry Potter: The Dark ages

Chapter 13: Chapter 13 Snivellus

A compartment on the Hogwarts Express had four seats, but in reality, if you squeezed, six or seven people could fit, as the children hadn't fully grown and their frames were small.

Gary, Alfrina, and James occupied a compartment at the rear of the train. Once the compartment door was closed, it became a self-contained small world.

The three curiously watched the students and parents walking back and forth in the corridor. Most of them were carrying heavy trunks, and in their other hand, they held owl cages. The corridor was already extremely narrow, and with the pushing, shouting, and hooting of owls, it became a chaotic mess. After a while, several older students with badges pinned to their robes came to the corridor to maintain order.

The train whistled, and only then did the parents bid farewell to their children and step off the train.

Black smoke billowed from the chimney of the Hogwarts Express, and the clattering sound grew from faint to loud, starting as sporadic noises and evolving into a rhythmic percussion.

The train started moving.

The Hogwarts Express departed from London, heading towards Hogwarts. Alfrina looked out the window, her heart heavy.

She had originally attended a 'normal' elementary school, with excellent grades and a happy family, until one day, strange things began to happen.

A chubby boy, trying to claim the right to use the community swing, pushed the scrawny Alfrina to the ground. Alfrina only wanted to get back at him, truly, she thought so in her heart, and then the chubby boy's brown hair completely fell out, as if a Tony-sensei had shaved it smooth with clippers, not a single strand remaining.

The chubby boy felt a sudden lightness on his head. He touched it with his hand, then looked in a mirror, and felt his worldview completely overturned, lying on the ground wailing and rolling.

Alfrina had no idea what had happened and sat on the ground, at a loss.

A black-haired boy, who had been standing by observing, walked over and told her she was a Witch.

"A what?" Alfrina was utterly confused.

"A Witch, you heard right," the boy explained, "Just like me." He spread his fingers, and a withered flower in his palm suddenly became full, its bud vibrant and dripping, regaining its vitality.

Alfrina was dazed. The boy imparted a lot of Wizard knowledge she had never heard of and even asked for her home address.

Even after the boy left, Alfrina hadn't fully processed what had happened. The chubby boy was still wailing and crying, trying to attract adult attention.

Alfrina spent two days in a daze at home, and then the boy's letter arrived. The description in the letter was even more detailed and real. Alfrina had originally suspected it was a prank, but she quickly dismissed that idea. No prank sends letters by owl.

Alfrina, out of curiosity, wrote a reply, and the two quickly established a correspondence. Whenever the boy came to London, he would invite Alfrina, and she also met James and Sirius, who were all "people like her."

During the summer, Alfrina received a letter from Hogwarts, the school of magic the boys talked about.

Her parents objected to her going to this strange school of magic, calling the whole thing absurd and ridiculous, quite laughable indeed.

It wasn't until a woman, about her mother's age, wearing a peculiar emerald-green robe, paid them a visit and demonstrated by taking out a small wooden stick and transforming a teacup into a sofa.

Then the Witch explained to them the consequences of young Wizards not learning how to control their magic—frequent magic outbursts leading to being torn to shreds. After this, Alfrina's parents finally agreed to let her attend Hogwarts, on the condition that she must return to a normal Muggle life and to their side after becoming an adult.

Alfrina sat in the compartment, lost in thought. She still felt it was an absurd dream.

She bid farewell to her elementary school friends and teachers, said goodbye to the neighbor's husky that only ever looked at her sideways, and embarked on a different path.

If I were a normal Muggle, how would I spend my life?

Alfrina watched the trees constantly receding outside the window when suddenly the compartment door was pulled open, interrupting her thoughts.

It was Sirius Black who entered, his handsome face filled with impatience, as if someone had annoyed him.

"Sirius! I was wondering where you went!" James ate the last fry from the bag.

"My sister..." Sirius tried to explain, but stopped himself mid-sentence. He didn't want to gross out his friends with his family matters.

James looked at Sirius's dejected face, raised his hand, and slapped him on the shoulder.

"Cheer up, Sirius, how about we go exploring!" James, full and satisfied, wanted to go out and have fun again.

"Don't you..." Sirius saw that the hand James used to pat his shoulder had just grabbed a handful of fries. "Alright, let go of my hand first, and we'll go for a walk outside."

"Hoo hoo hoo!" James laughed triumphantly. He took out his wand from his trunk. "Gary, Alfrina, are you two coming?"

"No, James," Alfrina shrugged, "We'll just watch your seats for you." Gary nodded. He had borrowed Alfrina's book, "Terrifying Monsters from the Depths Below," and was engrossed in it, not wanting to go out and cause trouble with James.

After James and Sirius left, the compartment became quiet.

Alfrina rested her arm on the window sill, thinking, while Gary sat on his seat, reading about the sea monster model described as tens of meters long in the book.

The two had their own things to do in the small compartment, quiet but not awkward.

However, the calm was quickly broken. The corridor suddenly became noisy, and several students from the adjacent compartment had already opened their doors and poked their heads out to watch the commotion.

"What's going on?" Alfrina asked, puzzled.

"I don't know," Gary glanced at the corridor through the compartment glass, "Anyway, it has nothing to do with us."

The next second, he heard James's voice, "Nice, Snivellus? Can you make your clothes fit better?"

Oh no, James was starting trouble again. He glanced at Alfrina, "You stay here and watch the luggage, I'll go check it out."

Alfrina nodded, "Try to talk some sense into James, don't let them fight." She knew James and Sirius's personalities well; fighting was commonplace.

Gary acknowledged, took out his wand from his trunk, pulled open the compartment door, and walked out.

The scene of James causing trouble was not far from the compartment. Gary, with his slender body, continuously pushed past the older students in front of him.

He finally saw the back of James's head; his black hair sticking up at the back was unmistakable.

He and Sirius were confronting another boy and girl.

Sirius leaned lazily against the compartment door, twirling his wand, watching James provoke someone.
