Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Another Shafiq
"If Professor Slughorn hadn't come to my house and demonstrated magic, my parents would never have let me come to this place." Howard, still not satisfied, took a chocolate muffin and stuffed it into his mouth.
"Aha, same with my parents. They said that letter was a prank, and Professor McGonagall had to persuade them for a long time before they agreed to let me study here," Al said, a bit annoyed. "They bought me a whole bunch of junior and senior high school textbooks and insisted I continue my Muggle education at Hogwarts."
At this point, even the desserts on the table had disappeared. Professor Dumbledore, sitting in the center of the teachers' table, stood up. He pressed his hands down, and the Great Hall became quiet again.
"Alright, everyone should be full and satisfied now," Professor Dumbledore said with a smile. He was wearing a bright pink robe today, adorned with tiny stars, looking extremely flashy. However, he seemed very pleased with his robe, straightened his back, and continued speaking to the students below.
"As always, the Forbidden Forest is off-limits to students. Many older students should also pay attention. Our caretaker, Mr. Pringle, asked me to emphasize again that any prohibited items found will result in a month of detention for the student and a fifty-point deduction for the house."
"Quidditch team tryouts will, as usual, be held in the second week of the term. Students, except for first-years, who are interested in signing up, please contact Madam Hooch, our Quidditch referee."
"To welcome our new students, let us sing our school song to show our welcome!" Dumbledore waved his hand, and a ribbon of colors flew from the tip of his wand, spiraling in the air to form lines of lyrics.
"Everyone can choose their favorite tune," Dumbledore said, winking at the new students. "Ready, sing!"
"Hogwarts, Hogwarts, please… we will study hard until we turn to dust." (I know you definitely don't want to see me rambling like this, skipping large sections)
Gary mumbled the lyrics, vaguely singing the entire song. Al and Howard, in a tacit understanding, sang the entire song to the tune of "Yesterday." Dumbledore hadn't heard this song but still nodded approvingly at them.
Because almost no students in the entire Great Hall sang the entire song properly, everyone sang the song in scattered parts. Dumbledore was the first to applaud, and the teachers at the teachers' table also clapped with stiff faces.
"Music is truly a charming art. It's getting late; it's time for us to go to bed. Everyone, head back to your dormitories." Dumbledore gently wiped his eyes.
The first-year Ravenclaw students followed Prefect Nance Gro towards the west side of the Castle, going up the marble staircase all the way to the sixth floor of the Castle. Among this year's Ravenclaw students, there were still more girls, seven girls and two boys. The male-to-female ratio in Ravenclaw was astonishingly high.
At the top of the sixth floor of the west passage, there was a large wooden door. The door had no handle or keyhole, only an eagle-shaped bronze knocker.
"The method of entering the Ravenclaw common room is different from the other three houses," Nance explained. "Slytherin and Gryffindor use passwords. Hufflepuff can enter directly from the passage entrance on the basement floor, and we use our brains."
He stepped forward and knocked on the knocker. The eagle's beak immediately opened, but instead of a bird sound, it spoke in a gentle, musical voice: "If you cannot prove something does not exist, then it exists."
After saying that, it had no further reaction.
"Ravenclaw students must answer the question the knocker wants, and only then will the door open."
A new student asked, "If we can't answer, we just can't get in?"
"You can wait for other students and answer the question together. Many questions don't have standard answers. As long as your answer makes some sense, the knocker will let you in."
Nance's messy brown hair swayed slightly as he pondered the answer to the knocker's question.
"Existence and non-existence depend entirely on the consciousness of the decider. For example, faith: if you believe it exists, it exists; if you believe it doesn't, it doesn't. Everything depends on the heart."
"Makes sense." The pleasant voice said, and the door opened. Nance led everyone to swarm in.
There were quite a few people in the common room now. Many older students had not yet returned to their dormitories, sitting on the sofas in the common room discussing problems or leaning by the window to look at Hogwarts' night view.
The Ravenclaw common room was a large circular room with elegant arched windows on the walls, draped with blue and bronze silk. The ceiling was a domed design, adorned with stars, and the deep blue carpet below was also studded with stars.
In a niche opposite the door was a white marble bust of Rowena Ravenclaw, with deep, wise eyes.
Next to the bust, there was also a wooden door leading to the student dormitories for different years.
"Is there anything you want to tell the new students?" Nance walked over to the sofa and asked a short, blonde girl.
The girl had been sitting on the sofa watching the Ravenclaw students next to her debate, her demeanor quiet and elegant.
"Remember to get up early tomorrow morning. I'll take you to familiarize yourselves with the Castle, and I'll also explain the rules of the changing staircases to you." The girl then introduced herself, "I am Lucy Shafiq, the Head Girl of Hogwarts."
Gary felt Al and Howard's gazes immediately converge on him.
Gary finally understood why Nance had such a strange expression when he shook his hand. This Miss Shafiq must be a distant cousin of his.
Nance took the new students to see their dormitories and then told them to try to go to bed early so they wouldn't miss tomorrow's classes.
The only two boys in this year's Ravenclaw, Gary and Howard, occupied a quad room, about twenty square meters. Gary's luggage had already been delivered to the luggage rack in the room. After checking it to make sure nothing was left behind, he took out all the textbooks he would need for this semester.
Then, while Howard was washing up, he wrote a letter to Madam Shafiq, informing her that everything was fine and incidentally asking about Lucy Shafiq.
Cardy was still in the Hogwarts Owl Shed. He planned to mail the letter after class tomorrow.
Howard came out of the bathroom, his hair wet, and lay directly on the bed with a bath towel draped over him.
"You go wash up quickly. I need to sleep first." A simple, honest smile appeared on his chubby face.
When Gary came out of the bathroom, Howard was already fast asleep, letting out soft snores.
This was his first day at Hogwarts. There were still seven years ahead. Gary lay flat on the bed, looking at the deep blue ceiling, and unknowingly drifted off to sleep.
