Harry Potter: The Dark ages

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Prank Master

Gary couldn't understand Mrs. Black's actions. Based on his years of experience bickering with Sirius, Sirius was typically someone who responded to softness, not hardness.

The more forcefully you treated him, the more stubborn he became, and his rebellious behavior escalated.

But if you spoke softly to him, he would feel embarrassed to continue opposing you.

Even Gary, who had only been opposing Sirius for two or three years, could see Sirius clearly, so why couldn't his mother?

Gary didn't quite understand.

The students in the Great Hall started to become lively again, but Gary was a bit down because Sirius was now, in a way, half his friend.

After breakfast, Lucy led them from the Great Hall all the way to the Owl Shed on the eighth floor and the Gryffindor Tower.

Gary took the opportunity to run to the Owl Shed and find Cardy.

After being pecked twice, Gary finally got Cardy to agree to send a letter to his mother.

Today's morning class was Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration, and the classroom was located next to the Great Hall on the first floor. After saying goodbye to Lucy, who was going to Slughorn's office to hand in her Potion homework, the nine little eagles flapped their wings and hurried to the classroom.

Five minutes before class, the nine little eagles finally arrived at the classroom, where the Gryffindor students who were taking the class with them were already seated.

Most of them looked gloomy and listless, a stark contrast to their usual carefree and cheerful demeanor. It seemed they had been quite humiliated by Mrs. Black that morning.

Professor McGonagall was still wearing a emerald green robe, making Gary suspect whether the Dean of Gryffindor was a Slytherin spy.

"The first thing I will teach you," Professor McGonagall said sternly, "is that Transfiguration is a very dangerous subject. Throughout history, countless Wizards have suffered physical injuries caused by Transfiguration, and most of these injuries are irreversible, causing severe damage to a person's body and intellect."

These words scared the newly admitted students, who were still excited, as if a basin of cold water had been poured over their heads, cooling down their restless and fervent emotions.

"To prevent you from making foolish mistakes in the future, please listen carefully in class," Professor McGonagall observed the expressions of the new students below through her glasses. "I do not wish for any of my students to appear on the entertainment page of The Daily Prophet one day due to a failed Transfiguration."

The students below became quiet. Professor McGonagall saw that her intimidation of the new students had been effective and nodded with satisfaction.

"Now, take out your 'Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration'. In this class, we will thoroughly understand the basic theory of Transfiguration." Professor McGonagall returned to the podium and took out her textbook.

The little ones below nervously took out their textbooks from their bags. There were some scattered whispers and the rustling of pages in the classroom.

"When performing Transfiguration, it is very important to wave your wand firmly and decisively. Do not wave or twirl your wand unnecessarily, otherwise the Transfiguration will surely fail. Before using a Transfiguration spell, clearly visualize in your mind what you want the object to become." Professor McGonagall read a passage from the introductory guide.

"The essential quality for powerful Transfiguration is determination. No matter which house you come from, a firm belief in Transfiguration will make your Transfiguration even more powerful," Professor McGonagall suddenly looked at James and Sirius, who were sitting in the back row.

"Mr. Black," Professor McGonagall adjusted her glasses, "what quality did Emeric Switch emphasize as essential for practicing Transfiguration?"

Sirius didn't expect Professor McGonagall to call on him to answer a question. He stood up, feeling a bit guilty, as he had just been discussing with James where to spend Christmas.

"Um… I don't know." Sirius said, "Sorry, Professor, I was distracted."

"Sit down, Mr. Black. Tonight, go find Mr. Pringle for detention." Professor McGonagall said coldly. She disliked people who didn't listen in class, considering it a typical sign of not trying. As a teacher, she preferred children who were a bit clumsy but willing to work hard.

The class quickly ended. First-year courses were not many. Before their third year, Hogwarts students did not have elective courses, and they had plenty of free time every day.

This morning there was only one Transfiguration class, and in the afternoon there was a Herbology Class. Gary wanted to go to the Library to read for a while.

Just then, Sirius stumbled out of the classroom, and Gary and James called out to him.

"Are you okay, Sirius?" Gary asked, frowning.

Sirius shook his head, "I'm fine, Gary." His magnetic voice also became low.

Seeing his worried expression, James and Gary didn't take his words seriously.

"Hey, look over there!" James was struggling with how to cheer up his best friend, when someone conveniently appeared.

"Snivellus!" James shouted loudly. Snape was passing through the entrance hall, carrying a thick book, heading somewhere unknown.

Gary saw Snape's body suddenly tremble. He didn't even look at James but quickened his pace.

"Don't run, Snivellus!" James, having finally caught this opportunity, certainly wouldn't let him go. He quickly chased after him. With more than ten meters between them, James shot out in an instant.

"James!" Gary watched him run off in a flash, feeling helpless, and could only chase after him with Sirius.

On the way from the entrance hall to the Slytherin common room, they saw James firmly pinning Snape to the ground.

It made sense. James had been a prank master since childhood and was very good at running away, otherwise he would have been caught and beaten to death. Snape was pale and thin, clearly an athletic idiot, so it was reasonable for James to catch him.

"Quick, Sirius, don't let him get away." James heard footsteps, turned to see Gary and Black catching up, and said delightedly.

"What are you doing?!" Just as Sirius grabbed Snape's robe, a roar came from behind Gary.

Gary hadn't gone forward. Sirius and James alone were enough to subdue Snape. He looked back and saw Lily Evans, her red hair flowing behind her, her almond-shaped eyes full of murderous intent, exuding an aura like a lioness.

"James Potter!" She rushed forward and began to tear at James, trying to pull Snape off the ground.

Snape had originally given up resisting, but seeing Lily arrive, he immediately began to struggle as well.

James didn't dare to strike for fear of hurting Lily, so he could only let her pull and bite at him.

James let out an "Ow!" probably because Lily had bitten him, and he could only let go of Snape beneath him and stand up.

Gary stifled a laugh and pulled Sirius, who had fallen to the ground during the scuffle, back to his feet.

He didn't feel that James had too much malice towards Snape; these few people bickering were quite interesting. Due to Hogwarts' rules, James couldn't bring his broom, so all his passion had nowhere to vent.
