Harry Potter: The Dark ages

Chapter 20: Chapter 20 Friendship

"You two are really going too far!" Lily pulled Snape, who was lying on the ground, to his feet. "How can you hurt a classmate! Severus didn't do anything, why are you two picking on him!"

James and Sirius lowered their heads, not daring to speak.

Gary saw James like this for the first time; usually, when he did something wrong, he would stick his neck out and refuse to admit it. He found it somewhat amusing.

"And you!" Lily's trembling finger pointed at Gary's nose.

"?" Gary was bewildered. "I didn't do anything, you saw it."

"You inactive accomplice!" Lily's voice was shrill, echoing in the corridor.

"I'm going to tell Professor McGonagall about this, Potter," Lily said coldly. "Your behavior is disgracing Gryffindor."

Snape still seemed a bit indignant. "Potter and Black, I really hope you two grow some more brains next time, otherwise, I doubt you two will be able to graduate from Hogwarts."

"Snivellus, you!" James was very annoyed.

"Let's all take a step back," Gary interjected as a peacemaker. "Miss Evans, please don't report this to Professor McGonagall. It's only the first day of school, and if Gryffindor loses too many points, those two won't be able to stay in the house."

"James, apologize to Mr. Snape."

He didn't think this matter was very serious, just a children's prank, and there was no need to involve Professor McGonagall.

Lily thought about it carefully. If she reported it to Professor McGonagall, she would definitely deduct a lot of points from Gryffindor, and as someone who reported her own house, she would certainly not have an easy time within the house.

Her thoughts were the same as Gary's; she didn't think there was a need to blow the matter out of proportion.

"Alright…" Lily pondered for a moment. "Severus, what do you think?"

Snape clutched the book in his hand, his voice muffled. "I can accept Potter and Black's sincere apologies." He was very pleased, a slight smile on his lips.

"There's no way I'm apologizing to Snivellus, absolutely not." Sirius was furious. He hadn't done anything, just pushed Snape down. He had already had enough bad luck today and was in a bad mood, and seeing Snape's smug expression made him even angrier.

He wished he could grind his fists back and forth on Snape's face to vent his anger. How could he apologize?

"Sorry, Severus." James said with a grin, drawing out each syllable of Severus's name.

Gary felt that James was mocking Snape, deliberately making it sound very similar to "Snivellus."

Sirius also chuckled. "Sorry, Severus, I express my most sincere apologies." He mimicked James's pronunciation.

Gary saw Snape's mouth droop again, and fearing that Snape would cause more trouble, he quickly pulled James and Sirius away from the corridor.

The three of them planned to go to the restroom on the first floor together.

"Hahahaha!" As soon as they were away from the crowd and entered the empty restroom, James burst out laughing. "Did you two see Snape's expression? It killed me!"

Sirius also started laughing. He found Snape's face, which went from smug to angry, very comical.

"This time, Evans stopped us. When Snivellus is alone, we'll teach him a good lesson again." Sirius laughed heartily.

"Wait." Gary took two quick steps ahead of them, then turned around to face them.

"You're still going to bother Snape?" Gary frowned.

"Why not, Gary?" James laughed. "It's not my habit to let grudges go."

"Grudges? What grudges do you guys have?" Gary didn't understand how a few children arguing could escalate to hatred.

"Oh, come on, you heard Snivellus slandering Gryffindor, didn't you?" James waved his hand. "Besides, look at how Snivellus clings to Lily's front. It makes me sick!"

Gary then realized that the relationship between them was far more complex than just children playing around.

"Please, James," Gary felt a bit tired. "Don't go looking for trouble with Snape. Sirius already has enough to deal with. Can't you just…"

"I'm very curious what I have to deal with, Gary," Sirius said coldly, seemingly touched on a sore spot.

"Exactly, bothering Snivellus is what Sirius needs to deal with right now," James said as if it were obvious.

"Can you two stop being so childish?" Gary was getting fed up with his two friends' childish behavior. "Can you two mature a bit? Sirius, are you really planning to stay at odds with your family like this?"

Gary knew how prejudiced and crazy Mrs. Black was. He didn't expect Sirius to reconcile with her, but he just hoped their relationship would temporarily ease. At least for a few years, Sirius still needed the residence and living expenses for school provided by the House of Black.

"That's none of your business, Gary. Don't ruin the good impression you just made on me," Sirius said unceremoniously.

"Alright, Black, I hope you don't end up like a stray dog when the House of Black kicks you out." Gary felt a fire stuck in his chest. He really wanted to hit Sirius with a string of curses.

He was worrying about Sirius's messy affairs, and yet Sirius was ungrateful. Gary also felt a bit sulky and decided to let Sirius do as he pleased.

"Stray dog?" Sirius played with his Black hair. "How ridiculous. No matter how bad my life gets, it's still better than a weakling like you with unstable magic. I wonder how much more money your family has to support your potion habit?"

Gary rushed forward and punched Sirius in the eye. Sirius wasn't someone who would take a beating without fighting back; he immediately pushed Gary down.

"Hey!" James quickly pulled the two apart. "You're all friends, don't be like this!"

"Not anymore, Black." Gary got up. He wasn't strong enough; one punch didn't affect Sirius at all.

"I'm sorry our one-week friendship is over, baby Gary, still suckling at mommy's breast," Sirius said sarcastically.

Gary glared at him. He couldn't beat Black. His wand was in his pocket, but he knew very few curses. Looking at James, he gave up the idea and turned around, leaving the restroom directly.

He went straight to the Library on the second floor. It was still morning, so there weren't many people in the Library. Pince, the librarian, was sitting at her desk reading a romance novel.

The young librarian, Miss Pince, was a beautiful woman, with full, rosy cheeks, light brown long hair, and a slender, tall figure, which made her very popular among the male students.

When Gary entered, Miss Pince routinely looked up at Gary's face, then let him in.
