Harry Potter: The Wizard of Apocalypse

Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Irene's Mission

Irene in front of him was staring at Ian with a pair of innocent big eyes, which made him unable to say many words of blame. He could only sigh deeply.

"What are you thinking? Bread, salad, pudding, jam—what isn't in the refrigerator? Chocolate, candy, snacks—did I hide them all so you can't find them? It's just a lunch..."

Perhaps because Ian looked a little serious, Irene said a little aggrievedly:

"I've already had lunch by myself. I just wanted to make dinner for you. Although magic is very convenient, I still want you to be able to rest when you get home instead of continuing to be busy. I'm of no use, but I really just want to help you..."

Her voice grew quieter and quieter, and Irene's eyes began to turn red.

Listening to her explanation, Ian suddenly realized where the problem was. It was not today's incident but the long-term issues in his and Irene's life and relationship patterns.

He never thought about Irene's feelings in anything he did. She was an individual with independent thinking ability, not his appendage. To put it bluntly, Ian's previous way of interacting with her was like keeping her as a pet.

Before the end of the world, Irene was a typical strong woman. Even her wealthy family and considerable money did not make her lose her goal. She still had her own persistence and chose to rely on her abilities to get into the school of her choice to complete her studies, and then became a senior executive with her outstanding execution ability.

All of this proved she was a very strong woman.

Although Irene's life alone in the apocalypse made her exhausted, she did not give up hope and still sought to obtain supplies through her efforts.

Since she met Ian, she no longer had to worry about survival, which made her very grateful to him. Every day she had endless clean water and a variety of fresh and delicious food, and all she had to do was take care of the small vegetable garden. She was sincerely grateful to Ian.

Everything in this base—from generators, solar panels, furniture, and walls to tableware, soup spoons, watering cans, toothbrushes, and towels—was collected and brought back by him bit by bit.

Watching him ride the broom every day, hovering in the city full of dangers like an industrious worker bee, she felt deeply guilty and increasingly believed she was of no use and was instead a burden.

So, she was eager to do something for him, even if it was just trivial things—not only to reflect her self-worth but also because she wanted to help Ian and share his burden.

...

Irene's behavior today touched Ian's heart. Once he realized the real issue, he said softly:

"You shouldn't do these little things you're not good at. In fact, I have more important things that need your help. And the reason I'm angry is that if you're not careful today, you might put yourself in danger. So, don't do this again in the future, promise me?"

"Okay, I promise you. But what do you need me to do? I may not be able to help you with my major. By the way, I have a master's degree in information management and information systems."

Perhaps Irene realized she really wasn't good at cooking, so she obediently agreed to Ian's request and focused her attention on the "more important things" he mentioned.

Looking at Irene's cute expression at that moment, Ian couldn't help reaching out and pinching her cheek. However, she did not resist, only pouted and gave Ian a fierce look.

Ian suddenly realized his behavior was a bit rude and quickly put his hand down. Then he said seriously:

"Well... of course, it's a very important matter. I brought back a lot of books from the library, and I also have many books about magic. I need you to help me classify them, read them, and find commonalities and contradictions."

This had been on Ian's mind when he went to the library earlier. There were so many books piled up, and sorting them all out alone would take ages. He seized the opportunity to assign the task to Irene.

As for the books from the wizarding world, Ian planned for her to focus on the history books. Ever since learning the Muggle-Repelling Charm from Professor Binns, he had attached great importance to the subject.

But the history of magic is vast, and Ian lacked the energy to study it in detail. Assigning it to Irene also showed how much he valued her.

As for his secrets? Ian wasn't worried at all. With few living people in this world, and even if the world were healthy, Ian wouldn't care.

There were too many spells to protect against Muggles: the Muggle-Repelling Charm, the Obliviate Charm, the Confundus Charm, and others. The Ministry of Magic's Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes had even devised new uses for these spells.

"Don't worry, leave it to me. I will work hard."

Irene was quite happy at that moment, agreeing immediately and promising to take her tasks seriously.

After the two reached an agreement, the next steps became much simpler. Ian quickly prepared dinner, and with a graceful flick of his wand, one simple yet exquisite dish after another floated elegantly onto the table.
