Chapter 27: Chapter 27: For the Greater Good!

The magic system of this world is deeply rooted in idealism.

Each spell a wizard casts is a reflection of their emotions and intentions at that moment.

In essence, the magic of this world operates as a form of "wish fulfillment."

A truly powerful wizard often doesn't need to vocalize spells. However, chanting a spell enhances their emotions, amplifying the magic's power to its maximum potential.

Take Tom, for example—he used the Killing Curse as if it were a basic attack.

At that time, his habit of loudly reciting the incantation was not only to increase the spell's potency but also to instill fear in others.

At this moment, Robert lay on a recliner, entering a meditative state similar to before.

This time, however, he did not attempt to forcefully control his chaotic thoughts. Instead, he simply focused on sensing the "energy" known as magic within him.

"I need inner peace, free of distractions," Robert thought.

Then, something strange happened. The magic within him seemed to stir—but at the same time, it didn't.

As he prepared to try again, an overwhelming calmness suddenly washed over him, erasing all distractions in an instant.

It was an odd sensation, akin to standing in the middle of a bustling city only to have every sound around you vanish—leaving nothing but the rhythm of your own breathing and heartbeat.

Robert marveled at this transformation but soon felt a sense of unease.

"If I'm still thinking, how can my mind be free of distractions? Isn't this a contradiction?"

It was as if someone observed his breathing and declared he wasn't breathing at all, yet he could clearly feel himself doing so.

The realization hit him quickly.

His distracting thoughts hadn't disappeared, nor had his thinking ceased.

They were merely hidden.

Why?

Because magic grants a wizard's wishes.

And in Robert's case, his desire for a mind free of distractions caused his magic to conceal the thoughts he couldn't erase.

To achieve this, his magic had created a false brain—one devoid of memory or active thought—masking his real mind entirely.

The memories and thoughts stored in this artificial brain were precisely what Robert needed others to see.

All of it was an illusion.

His true thoughts remained locked away behind an invisible door.

At that moment, Robert finally grasped the mechanics of Occlumency.

He had successfully reached the first stage—hiding all his memories and genuine thoughts.

Without hesitation, he moved on to the second stage.

He expanded the false brain's capacity, allowing it to completely encase his real thoughts and memories.

Then, he began to establish a connection between the two.

Soon, the genuine thoughts produced by his real brain seamlessly transferred into the artificial one.

At that moment, the previously rigid and lifeless false memories in the fake brain became dynamic.

They were indistinguishable from real memories.

In other words, Robert could now manipulate his mind's contents at will.

Anyone who tried to read his thoughts would see only what he allowed them to see.

He had no idea how much time had passed, but when he opened his eyes, night had already fallen.

After checking his condition, Robert felt immense satisfaction.

There was no doubt—he had truly mastered Occlumency.

The feeling was hard to describe.

It was like putting on a pair of sunglasses.

When others looked into his eyes, all they would see were dark lenses.

But he, behind them, could still observe everything clearly.

Though he had only just grasped Occlumency, it was more than enough to counter Quinina's passive Legilimency.

With this thought, Robert breathed a sigh of relief.

"Awake already? You were out for ages." Tom eyed him suspiciously.

He had almost assumed Robert had fallen asleep.

"Oh, I stayed up late reading last night, so I'm exhausted today."

"But you went to bed early last night," Tom pointed out.

"I couldn't sleep, so I read a book," Robert replied casually.

At that moment, Toby arrived with the dinner he had set aside for Robert.

"Wade, you'll get used to it eventually," Professor Hicks said with a kind smile. "I was the same way. Whenever I moved somewhere new, I had trouble sleeping."

She still believed Robert's insomnia stemmed from being unaccustomed to his new environment.

"I'll try to adapt," Robert nodded sincerely.

To his surprise, after mastering Occlumency, his acting skills had also improved.

With a fabricated expression and the perfect matching emotions, his performance was flawless.

It made sense now—this was why Snape could deceive Tom and work as a double agent without being exposed until the very end.

Hunger gnawed at Robert after his long day without food.

He devoured his meal and then excused himself, telling Professor Hicks that he felt exhausted and needed to rest.

Tom gave him an incredulous look, as if he were some sort of gluttonous pig.

"Does this guy sleep all day? Is he not worried I'll surpass him and get my revenge?"

However, what Tom didn't know was that Robert's claim of exhaustion this time was genuine.

The mental strain of learning Occlumency had drained him.

After shutting his door, Robert sat on his bed and opened the system store.

He hadn't had time to check it the night before, and if he didn't now, valuable items might disappear when the store refreshed at midnight.

[Product 1: Felix Felicis (10ml) - 500 Merit Points (Unlocked)]

[Product 2: Unicorn Hair - 5 Merit Points (Unlocked)]

[Refresh Countdown: 5 hours, 21 minutes, 55 seconds]

[Merit Points: 100]

[Dark Lord Achievement: Not Achieved]

Robert's eyes immediately locked onto the bottle of Felix Felicis.

Now this was something useful.

Felix Felicis, also known as Liquid Luck, significantly enhanced one's fortune. More importantly, it was incredibly difficult to brew.

Even a master potioneer required at least six months to create a single batch with a reliable success rate.

Robert desperately wanted to purchase it—it would be valuable whether for personal use or for trading.

Unfortunately, he didn't have enough merit points.

With no other choice, he marked the item for future purchase.

As for the unicorn hair, he saw no reason to waste points on it.

After closing the system store, exhaustion hit him in full force.

Between the lingering effects of the energy potion and his intense mental exertion, he could barely keep his eyes open.

Before long, he was sound asleep.

His sleep, however, was anything but peaceful.

Robert found himself in a strange, fog-filled place.

The entire space was pure white, cloaked in mist.

Within the fog, a dark figure stood, waving at him.

Its lips moved rapidly, as if speaking to him—but no sound reached his ears.

Anxiety gripped him.

He tried to approach, but for some reason, his legs felt unbearably heavy.

Suddenly, he stumbled over something.

The entire scene shattered like glass, the figure dissolving along with it.

Robert wanted to ask who they were, but to his shock, he found himself unable to speak.

Just then, a voice called out from behind him.

As he turned to see who it was—

Everything went black.

Robert jolted awake.

The first thing he saw was Toby's panicked face.

"Master Wade! Wake up! We must leave—now! Toby must take Master Wade and Master Tom away! Someone… Someone is attacking us!"

Robert sat up abruptly.

The sounds of chaos flooded in from outside—spells crackling through the air, frantic shouting, and rallying cries.

And then, a familiar phrase echoed through the night:

"For the greater good!"
