Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Desperate Situation
In this world, people can both fight and shout slogans enthusiastically, all in the name of the so-called "greater good."
At this moment, only the fanatical Wiccan followers under Grindelwald remained outside.
Robert didn't have time to question why Grindelwald's men had appeared at his doorstep.
"Where are Tom and Professor Hicks?" Robert looked behind Toby, searching for their figures.
Then, he spotted Tom lying motionless on the floor, looking unnervingly peaceful.
"What?" Robert gasped, his eyes widening in shock.
Had the future Dark Lord died before even fulfilling his destiny?
"Master Tom is just unconscious. Professor Hicks is still fighting outside, but there are too many of them! He can't hold out much longer. We need to leave—now!"
Toby grabbed Tom's hand and reached out anxiously toward Robert. "Quickly, grab onto me! I'll take you both away first—ah!"
Boom!
Before Toby could finish his sentence, the wall behind him exploded.
The violent shockwave flung him forward, rendering him unconscious as he collapsed beside Tom.
Robert had been in front of Toby, so Toby's body had shielded him from the brunt of the blast. However, his head buzzed from the impact.
Through the thick cloud of dust, a tall figure crawled into the room from the newly created hole in the wall.
Robert quickly drew his beech wand.
"Protego!"
Bang!
The intruder had barely stepped inside before Robert's Shield Charm sent him flying back out of the hole.
Wasting no time, Robert rolled to the side, dropping from the edge of the bed.
His instincts proved right.
The moment he moved, seven or eight spells blasted into the spot where he had just been sitting.
The poor wooden bed was obliterated, sending sawdust and goose feathers flying through the air.
Still lying low, Robert waved his wand, pulling Tom and Toby toward him.
The heavy wooden cabinet next to them, shaken by the explosion, toppled over—crashing down exactly where Tom and Toby had been moments ago.
More dust filled the air.
Robert urgently checked the unconscious pair.
Toby had been knocked out cold, and Tom appeared to have been struck by a stunning spell. They were still breathing—they were fine, for now.
But there was no time to wake Toby up.
The Wiccan followers outside would soon rush in again.
If they decided to cast large-scale destruction spells, the entire building could collapse on top of them.
There was only one way to buy time—create a major distraction.
Robert had to draw their fire away from this room.
At the same time, he had no idea how Professor Hicks was faring in the fight outside.
He gritted his teeth, raised his wand, and aimed at the side wall.
"Bombarda!"
Boom!
Another large hole was blasted open.
The instant the wall shattered, Robert dashed through the smoke and debris.
The explosion was so sudden that the enemies outside didn't react immediately.
Covered in dust and rubble, Robert's small frame—just that of an eleven-year-old—helped him blend into the chaos.
Two figures stood before him.
Since this was the back of the house, where there were no doors or windows, the Wiccan followers had left only two guards here.
Those two hadn't expected anyone to break through from the inside.
"Stupefy!"
"Petrificus Totalus!"
Caught off guard, both men were instantly taken down.
Robert wasn't taking chances.
Anyone standing outside was likely an enemy, and in a life-or-death situation, he couldn't afford mercy.
Besides, he had no time to distinguish friend from foe—he just had to disable everyone in his way.
His grand escape was working.
A voice from the other side of the house shouted, "There's movement! Someone broke through the back wall!"
The attack on the house stopped.
The Wiccan followers turned their attention to Robert's location and rushed toward him instead.
Footsteps thundered as they stormed around the building.
Robert's heart sank.
If everyone was coming this way, Professor Hicks must be in grave danger.
"Nebulus!"
Without hesitation, Robert cast a fog spell.
Thick white mist erupted around him, quickly expanding across the battlefield.
The Wiccan followers ran straight into the blinding fog.
"Be careful! Don't hit our own—ah!"
Before one of them could finish his warning, he was struck down.
Robert silently moved within the mist, keeping low.
He continued to release fog from his wand, keeping the battlefield covered.
"He's in there!"
The moment they spotted movement, a flurry of spells shot into the fog.
"Did we hit him?"
"No, he's still moving!"
"Come out if you dare, you little—ah!"
Another loudmouthed enemy was swiftly silenced.
The remaining followers hesitated.
They realized Robert was targeting anyone who made noise.
Even though their numbers were greater, they couldn't see their opponent, and they didn't want to hit their own allies.
Their advantage was gone.
Robert continued to weave through the mist, striking enemies down one by one.
However, he couldn't see them either.
He was fighting blind, relying only on sound and instinct.
He knew one thing—he couldn't afford direct combat.
Even though he had an adult's soul and a high level of magic, he lacked real battle experience.
His enemies, however, were seasoned fighters under Grindelwald.
Even a one-on-one duel would be risky, let alone taking on all of them at once.
"Protego Totalum!"
"Protego Maxima!"
The Wiccan followers began reinforcing their defenses.
They cast Shield Charms over themselves.
Robert stiffened.
That was bad.
The Protego spell was powerful. Only the three Unforgivable Curses could break through it instantly.
Every other spell would take multiple hits to crack the shield.
And in this situation, if Robert had to stand still and attack multiple times, he'd be dead within seconds.
Suddenly—
"Ventus!"
A powerful gust of wind roared through the battlefield.
The fog was swept away.
Robert's stomach twisted.
He was exposed.
Seeing the success, more Wiccan followers joined in, casting additional wind spells.
The once-thick fog was now scattered and thin.
The battlefield was clear once more.
And Robert—was now standing in the open, surrounded on all sides.
A desperate situation indeed.
