Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Talk-no-Jutsu

Chapter 85: Talk-no-Jutsu

Five days ago.

"The philosophy of the Akatsuki is to achieve peace through mutual understanding, without killing. Ever since Lord Yahiko and Lord Nagato took over as leaders of the Village Hidden in the Rain, the Land of Earth has been at peace with us. As for Lord Hanzo's remaining forces, Lord Yahiko was magnanimous enough not to execute them. Instead, they were captured and placed in interrogation rooms to help them understand and join the Akatsuki. Even Lord Hanzo's former confidants were won over by Lord Yahiko's character."

"Are you saying that Hanzo the Salamander is already dead?"

"Lord Hanzo was swayed by the influence of other nations and tried to kill Lord Yahiko and Lord Nagato. In the end, he came to his senses and committed suicide."

"Suicide... You actually believe that?"

"Do not insult Lord Hanzo!"

Just as he reached the crucial point, the border guard's expression soured, and he snapped, cutting off Kakashi's slightly mocking tone.

"You could never understand Lord Hanzo's greatness. Even if he was misled in the end, he was still one of the greatest leaders of the Land of Rain."

"Right. I don't mean to question him, I just find the matter very suspicious."

"Outsider, you should leave. You are not welcome here."

The border guard raised his spear, gesturing for them to leave. Kakashi called over to Mei Terumi and Sara. Calculating the time, it was about time to set off anyway.

The orange-haired girl, who had been listening to the entire exchange, was very interested in the Akatsuki's philosophy. To achieve peace without killing was precisely her dream. Having emerged from the Blood Mist, Mei Terumi had long grown weary of the endless slaughter and deception.

"Sara, are you interested in this organization?"

"No."

The former queen of Rouran was still lost in the novel experience of being abroad. The new sights around her temporarily overshadowed her hatred for the Village Hidden by Sand. If such a drastic change in climate existed just across a border, what would the Five Great Nations be like?

Seeing that she couldn't persuade Sara, Mei Terumi moved to stand behind Kakashi, using a simple, makeshift umbrella to shield him from the raindrops.

"Kakashi, about that Akatsuki..."

"I advise you not to get close to that organization."

The moment she mentioned the Akatsuki, the orange-haired girl was cut off by Kakashi. He paused for a few seconds before warning her in a deliberately low voice.

"There isn't a single person in there who's easy to deal with."

"How not easy? Stronger than you?"

"Stronger than me."

The silver-haired boy admitted it without hesitation, not wanting to hide it from her. He then told her, in bits and pieces, his theories about the Akatsuki.

After he finished, Kakashi checked the map. Their upcoming journey would inevitably take them through the Village Hidden in the Rain. As long as they didn't clash with those certain individuals from the Rain Village, they should be able to pass through the Land of Rain safely. His recent surge in strength didn't make Kakashi arrogant; he knew this level of power was likely still no match for the Rinnegan.

After all, they had killed Hanzo.

He was one hundred percent certain that Hanzo the Salamander had not committed suicide, but that it was a story they had fabricated after killing him themselves.

The Land of Rain wasn't large, but it was a complex network of rivers and lakes, many of which were as deep as the ocean. The trio passed through a few scattered villages before they saw the high walls and the strange architecture, so different from the outside world.

Unless they wanted to break through by scaling the high walls of the Rain Village, their only option was to go through the main gate and be inspected.

After a moment's thought, seeing as he had no connection to the Akatsuki at present, Kakashi emphasized to the two girls not to reveal their true identities and then headed for the main gate.

There was a considerable flow of people, most of them sallow-faced refugees. But what the silver-haired boy found strange was that these people weren't entering the city at all. Instead, they were here to receive free food and clothing.

To the side of the gate, a large stone tablet announced how much food each person could receive per day and that they could receive one piece of clothing per month.

"Hey, Kakashi, what did I tell you?"

Seeing this scene, Mei Terumi's favorable impression of the Akatsuki increased slightly. However, she still maintained a degree of caution, as the things Kakashi told her were usually true. This Akatsuki organization might not be as benevolent as it appeared on the surface.

The silver-haired boy was silent for a moment, then activated his perception. The three people distributing supplies at the gate were all at the Jonin level. Behind them were two more... one was an Elite Jonin, and the other...

He shut down his perception. More accurately, there was no need for it. He had forgotten that the Rinnegan's perception was just as keen. To think he was waiting right here at the gate for people... who could handle this?

His left eye faintly glowed with a mechanical light, meeting the gaze of the strongest eyes from dozens of meters away.

His heart began to beat faster. The boy knew he was feeling nervous. If he were alone, it would be one thing, but with all three of them here, he had to prepare for the worst.

His opponent's legs were not crippled as they were in the original story. This man, Uzumaki Nagato, was arguably the most imposing boss in all of Shippuden. Without the weakness of his main body, defeating him would be exponentially more difficult.

Exchanging for a single-use "Coordinate Transfer," Kakashi handed the bamboo slip to Mei Terumi.

"If a fight breaks out, you and Sara must immediately crush and break this."

"Is it that serious?"

Startled by Kakashi's words, Sara's reaction was particularly strong.

"Let's go."

The short, few-dozen-meter walk felt like hundreds of kilometers. The boy could feel that man's gaze fixed on him the entire time.

Just as they had at the border, he handed their travel papers to the gate guard and waited quietly to be let through.

Two minutes later, after the guard confirmed their papers were in order, they passed through the gate. Kakashi could still feel that gaze on him.

"Wait a moment."

A red-haired youth, draped in the signature red-cloud Akatsuki cloak, called out, stopping Kakashi's group of three.

"Is there something I can help you with?"

Slowly turning around, he placed his right hand behind his back, secretly gathering a purple electric glow, while simultaneously signaling to Mei Terumi that this was the prelude to a fight.

"Are you ninja from the Cloud Village?"

"That's right."

Uzumaki Nagato's question held no malice, no killing intent. Kakashi couldn't understand what he wanted, but it didn't seem like he was about to attack. He dissipated the lightning in his hand, and both Mei and Sara breathed a sigh of relief.

"We have an ideal, one that can allow the Five Great Nations to coexist peacefully. The Land of Earth has already reached a partial consensus with us. Could you convey our ideal to the Raikage when you see him?"

"What ideal?"

"To achieve an ideal where all people in the world understand one another."

"We mean no harm."

The woman behind Uzumaki Nagato appeared just in time to explain on his behalf.

Ultimately, under Mei Terumi's expectant gaze, the three of them followed Konan and Nagato to a tall tower. There, a young man with orange hair greeted them with a brilliant smile that was at odds with the dreary weather.

"My name is Yahiko. That's Nagato, and this is Konan."

Yahiko introduced himself to the silver-haired boy first, patting his shoulder with a familiar air.

Seeing this, Nagato took his leave to continue guarding the gate. His task was to find as many ninja from other nations as possible and bring them to Yahiko to hear his message.

Silver-tongued persuasion wasn't his strong suit.

"I imagine you have all suffered greatly from war. I believe you will not refuse a path to peace."

And so, for the first time in the dozen or so years he'd been in this world, Kakashi witnessed the legendary Talk-no-Jutsu.

This guy, he could really talk.
