Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Chakra Inflation
Chapter 90: Chakra Inflation
Kushina, possessing the Nine-Tails, boasted a chakra volume that dwarfed every other ninja in the world, including the other jinchuriki.
As a member of the Uzumaki clan, her own chakra was already immense. Adding the complete Nine-Tails to that, the sheer amount was enough to make Kakashi green with envy.
His meager 18 K-points probably didn't even amount to a fraction of what Kushina had, even without the Nine-Tails.
On top of that, she had the same sensory abilities, and even the more advanced ability to sense malice. Her sealing jutsu could not only restrain Tailed Beasts but was also effective against small, fast targets like Kakashi.
Kakashi had kept his distance from this woman since he was a child. Even when Minato was training the three of them and she came to deliver meals and observe their progress, the boy was always the most distant of the three. Even Obito knew that his sensei's girlfriend was not to be trifled with, yet Kakashi had just made a mistake that even Obito wouldn't make.
"Did you tell Minato you were back in Konoha?"
Not really intending to drag Kakashi back by force, Kushina was one of the few who knew that Kakashi becoming a rogue ninja hadn't actually harmed the village. In her eyes, the so-called S-rank wanted poster was just a piece of waste paper, less convincing than a single word from her boyfriend, the current Fourth Hokage.
Being able to talk was a good thing. Kakashi let out a sigh of relief. He would rather not fight Kushina if he could avoid it. A battle here would attract the entire village's attention. Before he could even recruit the Uchiha, he'd be the one getting dragged to an interrogation room.
He had no doubt that the village elders and Root would not pass up the chance to eliminate him, the traitor.
"I didn't, but Sensei already knows."
His voice returned to normal, his tone flat. He hadn't interacted much with Kushina. Although she had often cheered for him during his training and even rooted for him when he was beating up Obito, that was all in the past. Times had changed. Kakashi clutched a one-time teleportation scroll in his hand, ready to crush it at a moment's notice.
He had been relying more and more on this teleportation function lately. Another purpose of this trip to Konoha was to see if he could get his hands on the Forbidden Jutsu Scroll. It contained records of the Flying Thunder God Technique and several other space-time ninjutsu. It would be best if he could learn them, but even if he couldn't, he could still look at the other forbidden techniques.
"Then why didn't you go to his inauguration ceremony?"
"How did you know?"
"I was watching from a high place too. I didn't see you in the crowd at all."
"It's not that I didn't attend. I was there for a while."
"How long is 'a while'?"
"About five minutes."
"Oh, that's great. Your own teacher becomes Hokage and you watch for a whole five minutes. You deserve praise. Do you think I'd actually say that? You little brat."
Kushina retracted her sealing jutsu. The golden chains dissolved into chakra, returning to her body one by one. As the last golden, leaf-shaped arrowhead disappeared, Kakashi also dismissed the lightning jutsu he had been using for defense.
He would face this woman and talk properly.
This woman's personality wasn't as gentle as Minato's. It was common for her to get angry and lose her temper. In fact, it was only when she was with his sensei that her fiery temper would subside a little.
"I'm on a secret mission in the Land of Lightning, tasked with disrupting their defenses and economy. I told Sensei about this. Don't tell me he didn't tell you?"
Kakashi found that he was getting better and better at lying, and it came so easily. He didn't know if that was a good or a bad thing, but in this situation, it was undoubtedly a good thing.
Most of the time, he still disliked lying.
It was an act of squandering trust.
Ninja, originally a profession of assassins, had now completely replaced samurai as the masters of the battlefield. The credibility of a ninja village was also of utmost importance.
"Minato mentioned it, but is it really that simple? If you were really on a secret mission in the Land of Lightning, why would you suddenly come back? And why did you try to sneak away the moment you saw me?"
"I said it was a secret mission. The fewer people who know, the better. Running away was a subconscious reaction."
"I suppose you have a point."
No longer dwelling on the issue, Kushina closed the distance between them.
"Come with me to the Hokage's office."
"No. I'm not going anywhere."
Kakashi shook his head and took a few steps back, in case Kushina suddenly attacked or tried to trap him with some bizarre sealing jutsu.
"Are you afraid of me?"
"Nonsense."
"Do I look that scary?"
A '#' mark appeared on her forehead. "I take back what I said about you having a point. You brat, you're not cute at all."
"Sorry for not being cute."
"Anyway, Minato became Hokage. Isn't it only right for you to go congratulate him in person?"
"Sensei has a million things to do. The position of Hokage is extremely busy. I won't add to his troubles."
"Cut the crap and come with me."
Seeing that Kakashi wouldn't go with her to see Minato, Kushina silently calculated the attack distance, wondering how much force she'd need to bind Kakashi at once without hurting him.
In reality, the Adamantine Sealing Chains, as a materialization of chakra, could emerge from any part of the body. The fact that they had emerged from her back before was simply a habit of the future Hokage's wife. Now, from under her feet, a chain shot through the soil, silently approaching Kakashi.
Seeing as he had just been able to cut the chains, one wouldn't be enough. So, another chain shot out from her other foot and went underground.
Fortunately, Kakashi had kept his senses active ever since finishing his ramen, to avoid a repeat of an acquaintance suddenly appearing next to him and him having a hard time getting away.
He detected his master's wife's little trick.
The moment the chains broke through the ground, Kakashi waved at her and directly crushed the single-use coordinate teleportation scroll.
In the next instant, the silver-haired young man appeared without warning in the Forest of Death, south of Konoha.
With its complex terrain and large number of ninja beasts and wild animals, the Forest of Death was the best choice for hiding in Konoha. Normally, no one would ever come here. A thin layer of chakra over his body would protect him from insect bites.
Kakashi could just imagine Kushina's furious expression after realizing he had suddenly disappeared and she had been tricked.
The system really was a great help.
For the first time, he felt a sincere gratitude towards the system. He opened it, but after a few glances, that feeling quickly vanished.
Why did the price go up???!
System upgrade complete. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by item price increases.
Does chakra have inflation too?
Damn it. This blasted thing didn't even give a heads-up before upgrading. Kakashi opened the special items tab and saw that the lowest price for the Disguise Mask was now 20 K-points. He punched a nearby tree in frustration.
