HI3: I Don't Want to Be a Valkyrie

Chapter 161: Chapter 3: Honkai Beasts

"A god..."

"It's the god manifesting, a god coming to save us."

"Thank the gods..."

-

The villagers who were fleeing, hearing the commotion behind them, saw only a strangely dressed figure—a white-haired maiden—who with a single kick had sent the terrifying monster flying far away, seemingly killing it outright.

They immediately felt that their fervent pleas to the spirits had been answered, and the divine presence had manifested to save them.

As for why it was a young maiden...

In the Far East's spiritual legends, only beautiful maidens were deemed worthy to be possessed by the spirits. This theme commonly recurred in their tales.

Facing Kallen, who had effortlessly kicked away the monster, the villagers swiftly knelt before her. They bowed repeatedly, expressing their gratitude for the spirit's life-saving grace.

"Uh..."

Kallen turned to look behind herself, momentarily speechless at seeing the villagers worshiping her as if she were a divine being.

"I'm not a spirit," Kallen hastily explained. "Just an ordinary Valkyrie. You should stand up, really!" The young girl didn't relish being revered like a sacred statue.

"A Valkyrie? Could you be one of the legendary female warriors from Takamagahara? If I may ask, what is your esteemed title, oh mighty War God? We shall certainly build a temple in your honor, offering daily tributes!"

An older man in the crowd immediately thought of the War Gods from myth. These deities were all incredibly powerful, and even the female War Gods possessed extraordinary strength.

For instance, the Sun Goddess Amaterasu, ruler of Takamagahara, could be considered a type of War God...

However, Amaterasu was a supreme divine spirit that could only be worshipped by the imperial family. This female War God couldn't possibly be Amaterasu herself...

Otherwise, commoners—let alone samurai or nobles—worshipping Amaterasu would be a crime punishable by beheading.

So, the middle-aged man decided to inquire further, hoping it wasn't some special, untouchable deity. That would make things difficult.

"..."

Upon hearing the man's thought, Kallen fell silent once more...

War Gods...

"There's no need for such formality," Kallen said, twirling her dual guns in her hands and speaking calmly to the villagers before her. "I'm just passing through. Are you all from the nearby village?"

"Humble servant of the divine spirit, we are indeed villagers from a small town nearby," one of them replied. "It's very close to this location."

The villagers hastily responded with honesty.

"Nearby... have there been other monsters like these before? Many of them?" Kallen pointed to the creature she had recently kicked to death, not far away.

"Holy Spirit, we don't know about other places. The farthest we've gone is the nearest town, and only once, during the market day."

"However, there have never been any monsters coming here to harm us before. This is the first time. We don't know how, but suddenly, this terrifying monster appeared."

"If you hadn't arrived just in time to save us, Holy Spirit, we might have... might have... met the same fate as the others." The villager gazed ahead, sorrow etched on his face as he looked at the deceased villagers.

"There have never been any..."

This was peculiar...

"You all wait here for a moment..." Kallen instructed the villagers.

"Yes, Holy Spirit."

-

Kallen, unwilling to correct their misconceptions, walked straight towards the ox-demon she had kicked to death earlier.

As she gazed at the deceased creature, a sense of familiarity washed over her. Suddenly, the dead ox-head snapped open its bloodied maw and lunged at Kallen.

"Not quite dead yet... Then let's try that again!"

Startled but not panicked, Kallen calmly raised her double gun, the "Tranquil Rhapsody", and slammed its buttstock onto the ox-demon's head.

Blood erupted from its skull, painting the ground a crimson red...

A agonizing scream pierced the air as the ox-demon crumpled to the earth once more.

This time, it appeared to be beyond any form of revival.

Yet, even then, Miss Kallen aimed her gun at its heart and finally pulled the trigger.

The tranquil bullet shot forth, instantly reducing the ox-demon's entire body to no more than a memory.

-

The villagers nearby, witnessing their divine master demonstrate her power once again, gazed upon her with even greater admiration.

She truly is an immensely powerful divine being.

Naturally, Kallen noticed the villagers' reactions, but she didn't comment further. Instead, she focused on the remains of the ox-fierce, searching it for anything unusual.

"Honkai... fragments..."

No wonder the ox-fierce's presence felt so familiar—it was the aura of Honkai energy.

This world indeed has no mystical creatures; the terrifying monstrosity appeared only because of this Honkai fragment.

Originally, it was just an ordinary water buffalo.

For some unknown reason, it had obtained a Honkai fragment and been transformed by the Honkai energy into a Honkai Beast.

Just from this small scrap of a Honkai fragment...

It was even more outrageous than the Shikon no Tama...

Kallen suddenly thought of the many Honkai fragments and crystals in her warehouse...

Doesn't that mean I... could create any number of Honkai Beasts whenever I want...?

-

It was worth pondering: How could Honkai fragments appear in this remote region at this time?

Kallen wasn't entirely sure... but they must exist here, right?

After safely retrieving the dangerous Honkai fragments, Kallen turned to address the villagers. "The monster has been completely taken care of. You can rest assured now."

"Yes, mighty deity!"

"Mighty deity, since you've descended to our world, would you like to come back with us to the village? We would gladly offer you our finest hospitality."

The villagers' village was small, without any tradition of worshipping deities. Once, there had been a tiny temple dedicated to the local earth god, but it had long been forgotten. If they could welcome this powerful and mighty deity back to their village and build her a temple, then they would no longer fear any future events.

With the divine protection of the Godly Being, even if it wasn't a guaranteed safe haven, at least it was better than having no support.

"That won't be necessary. I wanted to ask you about something. Could you..."

Kallen was about to decline when suddenly, her stomach grumbled...

Immediately, the adorable Kallen felt her... stomach growling with hunger.

"Godly Being, at this time... everyone in the village should have their meals prepared. Although you are a God, your current body must be that of an ordinary maiden. Human bodies feel hunger, perhaps it would be best to go to the village first..."

Hearing Kallen's stomach growl, the middle-aged man smiled warmly and enthusiastically invited her to join them.

"Well... alright then!"

After a moment's consideration, Kallen decided to accept.

In the grand scheme of things, there's nothing more important than satisfying one's hunger!
