Chapter 21: 021 Kill The Mutant Snake Man!
"What is the extraordinary, and how does one become a god?"
Yogan looked at the snake man with a mixture of curiosity and excitement.
"Hehe, I'll tell you if you hand this woman over to me."
The snake man extended a sharp finger and pointed at He Qing, who was still trembling in fear.
"There is only one chance. If you're willing, I can be your guide."
"Really?" Yogan hesitated for a moment, but his expression soon showed a hint of expectation.
"Of course," the snake man replied confidently.
"Then you take her," Yogan said, pushing the woman beside him out with an indifferent expression. "In exchange, tell me how to enter the extraordinary realm."
He Qing buried her head, a deep sense of loss filling her eyes, which quickly transformed into deeper despair.
The snake man was momentarily stunned, but then his lips curled into a sinister smile. His expression became even more intense.
"Of course!"
He licked his lips, his gaze lingering greedily on He Qing's trembling, plump form.
"The extraordinary realm is more mysterious than you and I could have imagined!"
Power is the most intoxicating poison. Once you taste it, you never want to let it go. Especially in the current age, where the energies of heaven and earth are collapsing, the strength of warriors is advancing at a glacial pace. It's difficult for anyone to endure such a painful process.
So it was only natural for the young man to agree.
The snake man relaxed his guard a little, his gaze fixated on He Qing's body. He swallowed, clearly hungry and eager.
"Bring her to me, and I'll help you take the first step."
Yogan nodded, "Okay."
But just then, He Qing, her head still bowed, suddenly burst out with all her strength. She broke free from Yogan's grip and dashed away like a frightened rabbit.
Yogan was momentarily stunned. He seemed a fraction too slow, allowing her to slip past him.
Seeing this, the snake man hissed, spitting out his scarlet tongue. His impatience was evident as he glared at Yogan.
"Idiot!" He cursed silently, and his body surged with anger.
His legs kicked off the ground with explosive force, and he shot forward like a cheetah, covering more than ten meters in the blink of an eye.
As he passed Yogan, he spared him only a brief glance, not caring too much about him.
"Why don't you help me chase? Don't you want to see the extraordinary realm?"
"Of course, of course..." Yogan responded with a smile, his black and white eyes clear and steady.
Hearing this, the snake man's vigilance and impatience lessened considerably. He focused back on his target and continued to chase He Qing.
But then, suddenly, his scarlet pupils contracted.
An unbearable pain shot through his body.
Yogan had moved with lightning speed, his white palm landing on the snake man's scaly back. A brilliant light, a combination of red and white, shone from his hand.
He Qing, who had been running, stopped in her tracks. Her whole body shook with disbelief as she looked back.
Yogan slowly withdrew his right hand, and the domineering light in his palm had already shattered the snake man's scales, sinking deep into its flesh and blood.
The snake man froze in place, his body trembling. He turned his head to face Yogan, his expression blank and confused.
"I promised to show you the extraordinary realm. Why did you sneak attack me? And how could you break through my defenses?"
Yogan slapped the snake man's chest again and spoke coldly.
"The extraordinary realm you mentioned... doesn't seem to have much appeal to me."
With those words, the black steel bar that had slipped off Yogan's sleeve shot forward, stabbing straight into the snake man's scarlet eyes.
Blood splattered, adding a bright contrast to the gray, lifeless earth.
"If there's a way to become a god... I'll go and see it for you."
Yogan's voice turned colder and colder, as he mercilessly yanked the steel bar out and drove it into the snake man's forehead once more.
"Puff!"
The force behind the strike was so immense that it pierced the back of the snake man's head, sending it crashing into the ground with brutal force.
At that moment, He Qing stood frozen, her body as stiff as a statue. Her mind was blank, unable to process what she had just witnessed.
She watched as Yogan repeatedly pulled the steel bar out, then thrust it back into the snake man's body, until it looked like a hornet's nest.
The sheer ruthlessness of it all was beyond her comprehension.
"It... it's dead..." He Qing whispered, her voice trembling.
"I'm finishing off the enemy," Yogan replied, his actions cold and efficient.
"Finishing... finishing off the enemy?"
He Qing's voice quivered as she watched Yogan, the bloody figure standing over the now-lifeless snake man. She wondered if staying was the right choice.
But even if she wanted to flee, her legs felt too weak to move.
"Huh..." she gasped as Yogan paused, taking a deep breath, preparing to finish the job. But just then, a message appeared on the panel beside him.
[Kill a Level 1 peak mutant beast and gain 300 experience points.]
Yogan's lips curled into a grin, and he finally stopped.
"Mutants are certainly resilient," he mused, "But... 300 experience points? That's a nice reward!"
He Qing collapsed to the ground, her chest heaving as she struggled to catch her breath. The fear inside her had not dissipated, but when Yogan turned to look at her, she felt a shudder run through her body. A creepy, unsettling sensation spread through her, making her skin crawl.
"I was just finishing off the enemy. You might not understand," Yogan explained seriously, as he began to search the snake man's body in the pool of blood. Unfortunately, there was nothing of value.
The extraordinary realm, the road to becoming a god... the snake man's words weren't entirely without merit.
But the first step—devotion to a so-called god—struck Yogan as ridiculous.
After a long moment, He Qing's cold hands and feet finally began to warm. She hesitantly approached Yogan, her voice trembling as she asked:
"Just now... you were pretending, right?"
"What do you mean by just now...?" Yogan asked, his brow furrowing slightly.
"When you handed me over," He Qing said carefully, as if waiting for confirmation.
Yogan smiled and stood up from the blood-soaked ground. "Well, what he said was tempting, but I've been able to resist temptation since I was a child."
"Thank you. I owe you twice now," He Qing said, her eyes reddened as tears mixed with a nervous laugh.
"It's okay," Yogan waved it off casually. "Next time, I'll give you a heads-up if something like this happens again."
He Qing smiled faintly, her heart still pounding in her chest. She turned her gaze toward the building filled with a blood-red haze.
Yogan followed her gaze. His expression darkened.
The only camp in the ruined town was gone.
