Highschool DxD: Damn, I'm OP as Fuck!

Chapter 28: Chapter 27: The Price

The Hostess of Fertility—a lively tavern filled with adventurers from all over Orario.

Kenji, Hestia, and Liliruca stepped inside, greeted by the warm scent of roasted meat and freshly baked bread.

"Welcome!"

A soft voice called out.

A young waitress with greyish hair and bright eyes approached their table.

Syr Flova.

Kenji recognized her instantly—a kind-hearted girl who often helped adventurers, yet carried an air of mystery.

"Lady Hestia! And… two adventurers! Would you like to try our special today?"

Hestia beamed at the attention.

"Yes! One for each of us!"

Syr smiled and nodded before heading off, leaving Kenji to glance around the tavern.

The place was packed.

Loud laughter, the clinking of mugs, and the scent of fine ale filled the air.

At the next table—

"Drink up!"

"We made a fortune today!"

"Haha! We'll live like kings tonight!"

Kenji chuckled softly.

Adventurers lived by the thrill of the dungeon and the joy of a full mug at night.

But his sharp eyes also caught something else.

The staff of this place weren't ordinary.

A tall woman behind the bar—Mia Grand, the former captain of the Freya Familia.

A graceful elf waitress, moving silently between tables—Ryuu Leon, a Level 4 adventurer.

Even the catgirl waitresses had unusual presence.

This wasn't just a tavern.

It was a stronghold.

---

Not long after, Syr returned with their meals.

The scent of seafood pasta and freshly baked bread filled their table.

Liliruca blinked in surprise at the massive portions in front of them.

Kenji smirked.

"As an adventurer, if you don't eat enough, you won't last long in the dungeon."

Syr chuckled.

"It's common for newcomers to be surprised."

Hestia wasted no time.

She grabbed her fork and dug in happily, eyes sparkling with joy.

Kenji and Liliruca followed, savoring the delicious flavors.

But then—

THUD.

A heavy mug slammed onto their table.

Kenji's eyes narrowed.

A large, drunken adventurer stood before them.

A pig-faced man reeking of alcohol.

His small, beady eyes locked onto Hestia and Liliruca.

"Hey, kid. New around here?"

Kenji said nothing.

The man sneered.

"Drinking juice? Pathetic. Want me to teach you how to drink?"

His eyes gleamed with something ugly as he glanced at Hestia and Liliruca.

"Or better yet, how about your little friends here join us instead?"

Liliruca froze.

Hestia's face darkened.

Kenji put down his fork.

His voice was calm.

"Get lost."

The drunkard's friends at the next table laughed.

"Oho, Captain Beimon got ignored by a rookie!"

The man's face twisted with anger.

"You little sh—"

He swung his fist at Kenji.

Kenji moved.

His right hand gripped the handle of his Nichirin Blade—

But before he could draw it—

"That's enough."

A green blur appeared.

THWACK!

The man's fist was caught midair.

Then—

A swift kick.

He was sent flying, crashing into the floor.

Kenji raised an eyebrow.

The elf waitress stood between them.

Ryuu Leon.

Her expression was unreadable.

"This is a place to eat, not to fight," she said coldly.

Behind the bar, Mia Grand's voice boomed.

"Anyone who causes trouble gets thrown out. You hear me?"

The tavern fell silent.

Even the rowdiest adventurers froze.

Beimon, humiliated, scrambled back to his table.

His friends whispered, shooting Kenji dirty looks.

Then, they quickly paid their bill and left.

The tavern returned to normal.

Kenji watched the men leave.

Then, he stood up.

"Hestia. Liliruca. Eat without me for a bit."

Hestia blinked.

Liliruca hesitated.

But they nodded.

Kenji walked toward the exit.

Mia Grand, still behind the counter, sighed.

"Kid, he was just a drunk fool. Let it go."

Kenji paused.

His voice was calm.

"If he had only insulted me, I would have ignored him."

"But he tried to lay hands on my people."

He turned his gaze to Mia.

His golden eyes glowed faintly.

"That was his mistake."

Then, without another word—

He walked out.

Mia and Ryuu exchanged glances.

Mia sighed again, shaking her head.

"Poor bastard."

---

Outside the tavern—

The group of drunken adventurers stumbled into a narrow alleyway.

Beimon cursed under his breath.

"Damn rookie… making me look bad."

One of his friends scoffed.

"Forget him. The guy didn't even fight back."

Beimon gritted his teeth.

"Tch. Next time, I'll—"

"There won't be a next time."

A voice cut through the darkness.

The men froze.

Kenji stepped out of the shadows.

His hand rested on his sword.

His eyes were sharp.

Beimon's face paled.

"W-What do you want?"

Kenji's voice was low.

"I told you to leave."

He took another step.

A crackle of yellow lightning danced along his blade.

Beimon staggered back.

"H-Hey, listen—"

Kenji disappeared.

Then—

THUNDERCLAP.

A flash of lightning.

The alley exploded with sound.

The adventurers screamed.

When the light faded—

Beimon and his men lay on the ground, unconscious.

Kenji sheathed his sword.

His golden eyes glowed in the darkness.

"I don't give second warnings."

He turned—

And vanished into the night.

---

Kenji returned.

Hestia and Liliruca looked up.

Kenji sat back down, picking up his fork.

Hestia pouted.

"You didn't do anything crazy, right?"

Kenji smirked.

"Nope."

Liliruca stared at him.

Then, she sighed and smiled.

Syr approached.

"Would you like dessert?"

Kenji chuckled.

"Yeah. Why not?"

The night continued.

But in the streets of Orario—

The whispers had already begun.

"A new force has arrived in the city."
