Highschool DxD: Damn, I'm OP as Fuck!

Chapter 29: Chapter 28: An Invitation

The blood had already dried in the alley. The fight was over, and Kenji had returned to The Hostess of Fertility, rejoining Hestia and Liliruca as if nothing had happened. They finished their meal, paid, and left for home.

As they walked through the dimly lit streets of Orario, a desperate voice echoed from an alley nearby.

"Lord Goddess, please let me join your Familia and become an adventurer!"

Kenji paused. That voice...

Peering into the alley, he saw a white-haired boy standing before a tall, muscular Amazon woman. His clothes were plain, his build was small—he barely looked strong enough to wield a weapon, let alone survive in the Dungeon.

The Amazon woman scoffed.

"Kid, you're way too scrawny to be an adventurer. Come back when you're stronger!" she sneered. "Or if you've got money, then we can talk."

The boy flinched. His hands clenched into fists, but he didn't argue. Instead, he bowed his head and turned away, shoulders trembling with disappointment.

Kenji recognized him immediately.

Bell Cranel.

The boy who, in another timeline, would rise to become one of Orario's strongest adventurers. The protagonist of this world.

And most importantly—

Kenji could see it. Floating above Bell's head—a four-star treasure chest.

Condition to unlock: Recruit Bell Cranel into the Hestia Familia.

Kenji smirked. Easy.

As Bell stepped onto the main street, head still down, Kenji called out.

"Hey, kid. Looking for a Familia?"

Bell froze. Slowly, he looked up, eyes wide with shock.

"Y-Yes, I am!" he stammered.

Kenji crossed his arms.

"My name's Kenji. Captain of the Hestia Familia," he said smoothly. Then, motioning to the two girls beside him, he added, "This is Liliruca, our supporter, and Hestia, our goddess."

Bell's jaw dropped.

A goddess was standing right in front of him—and she was smiling at him.

"You're looking for a Familia, right?" Kenji continued. "Why not join ours?"

Bell's heart nearly stopped.

A Familia was offering to take him in? Just like that?

After days of rejections?

He looked at Kenji, then at Hestia, whose bright blue eyes sparkled with warmth.

"You… you really mean it?" Bell asked, almost afraid this was a cruel joke.

Hestia giggled. "Of course! Our Familia may be small, but we take care of each other!"

Bell clenched his fists. His dream—to become a great adventurer—it was finally happening.

The air was still as Bell stood frozen in disbelief before he shouted with enthusiasm.

"I-I ACCEPT!!"

Kenji chuckled. The kid was shouting from such excitement just because he got accepted in a Famalia.

"Well then," he confirmed with a nod. "Welcome to the Hestia Familia."

Tears welled up in Bell's eyes. He turned to Hestia, as if seeking reassurance that this wasn't just some cruel joke.

Hestia, though surprised by Kenji's decision, simply smiled and nodded. If Kenji saw something special in this boy, that was good enough for her.

With that, they brought Bell back to their Familia's home, where Hestia performed the conversion ceremony. The divine script of her blessing burned onto Bell's back, marking him as a true member of the Hestia Familia.

And at that moment, Kenji's system notification rang.

[Ding! Four-Star Treasure Chest Acquired!]

Later that night, inside his room, Kenji wasted no time. He sat on the edge of his bed, eyes locked on the glowing chest in his system space.

"System, open it."

A bright light erupted as the treasure chest clicked open. The moment it did, golden chains snaked out, floating ominously in the air.

Kenji's eyes narrowed.

[Congratulations! You have obtained the 'Heaven's Chain'—a divine weapon specialized in restraining gods and divine beings.]

Kenji exhaled sharply.

"First, I get a God-killing ability… and now, a divine restraint tool?" He smirked. "Are you trying to turn me into a god hunter?"

Just as he was processing this, a familiar weight pressed against his side.

"Renji…"

Kenji turned to see Hestia lying next to him, her usual spot ever since that thunderstorm. She looked up at him, her large blue eyes shimmering with curiosity.

"What's so special about Bell?" she asked.

Kenji leaned back, folding his arms. "He's got talent. More than anyone else in Orario."

Hestia blinked, surprised by his certainty.

"If I had to guess, I'd say he has the potential to surpass even the strongest adventurers in this city," Kenji continued.

Hestia pouted slightly. "So you're saying I got lucky, huh?"

Kenji grinned, brushing a hand through her raven-black hair.

"No," he said. "I'd say Bell got lucky."

With that, the two settled in for the night.

---

Sunlight streamed through the windows as Kenji stretched, feeling well-rested.

Today, there was no dungeon diving—instead, he had something else planned.

"Bell, Liliruca," Kenji said as they stood in the living room, "we're going shopping."

Bell blinked. "Shopping…?"

Liliruca immediately narrowed her eyes. "Captain, do you mean… equipment shopping?"

Kenji nodded.

Bell stiffened. "B-But isn't that really expensive—"

Kenji raised a hand.

"It's your welcome gift," he said casually. "Every adventurer needs good gear. Consider it an investment."

Both Bell and Liliruca exchanged glances.

Then—

"Captain, you're amazing!" Bell almost teared up on the spot.

Liliruca, ever the practical one, just grinned. "Guess I picked the right Familia, huh?"

---

Hephaestus Familia's Forge

The moment they stepped into the shop, Bell's jaw hit the floor.

Swords, daggers, armor—everything gleamed under the forge's warm light.

Each item had a price tag so high that Bell's legs almost gave out.

"F-Five million valis for a dagger?!" he nearly collapsed.

Kenji waved him off. "Relax, we're getting quality. No cheap junk."

After an hour of browsing, they finalized their purchases.

For Liliruca, Kenji got:

A reinforced backpack made from monster-hide (100,000 valis).

A light yet durable armor (5,000,000 valis).

A repeating crossbow for ranged attacks (3,500,000 valis).

For Bell, Kenji bought:

A full set of lightweight armor (8,000,000 valis).

A pair of enchanted twin blades—one long, one short (4,000,000 valis).

In total? Over 17 million valis spent.

Bell nearly had a heart attack.

Kenji, meanwhile, barely blinked.

"Kenji… I…" Bell looked overwhelmed.

Kenji placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Make sure you don't die," he said simply.

Bell nodded fiercely.

---

As they walked through the Familia's gates, Hestia was already waiting for them.

She stood in the courtyard, arms crossed, practically bouncing on her feet.

"Renji!" she called. "I have good news!"

Kenji raised an eyebrow.

"What kind of news?"

Hestia's grin widened.

"You're going to love this!"
