Hijack: Becoming The Strongest Hunter By Stealing Skills.

Chapter 3: Being Weak

As the status ring displayed Rin's stats, the room fell into total silence. The only sound that could be heard was the faint voice from the show they were watching.

Rin stared at the screen, his mind racing. "What could have caused this? Is the ring malfunctioning?" he muttered to himself, unwilling to accept what he was seeing.

The status ring displayed a stark and troubling message: "User has no active skill."

Rin, desperate for answers, repeatedly pressed the refresh button, hoping the result was an error.

Meanwhile, Hayes found a chair and sat down, pondering the situation. After some thought, he realized there was no point in sugarcoating things. The sooner Rin accepted the truth, the sooner he could move on.

"Stop refreshing that ring and face the reality!" Hayes said sharply, breaking the silence. "You have no skill, Rin. But let me ask you this: will you let a piece of technology determine your worth? Do you think having a skill is what makes a great hunter? Because if you do, you're wrong. What makes a hunter isn't just their skill—it's their determination, their purpose, and their will to succeed."

And if it were the skill that determines your worth as an hunter we won't have many good hunters dead because they would be winning every battle.

The main reason for their death is becoming Hunters maybe without the will or resolve needed they weren't there to help humanity I don't mean your dad wasn't a good hunter he was a good hunter and mentor.

Hayes's intense tone filled the room as he continued, "The problem with so many hunters today is that they're only in it for then to be an hunter and continue their family legacy.

They rely on their skills alone and forget the importance of true dedication. That's why we have so many half-baked hunters out there."

After Hayes's speech, the room fell silent again. Min-Ju, who had been quietly observing the Hayes speech, tried her best to comfort Rin.

However, Hayes's motivational words didn't seem to have the intended effect.

Rin stood up abruptly, turned away without a word, as he stormed towards his room . Moments later, the sound of his door slamming echoed through the house.

Hayes sighed, watching Rin retreat. As the tension in the room eased, Min-Ju turned to Hayes. "Do you think your speech got through to him?" she asked, her concern for Rin evident in her voice.

Hayes shrugged. "I don't know. I just said what I thought he needed to hear. It was the only solution I could come up with at the time." He paused before adding, "Could you get me a glass of water? That speech left me parched."

Min-Ju chuckled softly. "For a second there, I thought you were Hank—the motivational speaker. You did what any good guardian would do, Hayes.

You told him the truth, and that's what he needed to hear," she replied while heading to the kitchen to fetch the water.

---

Upstairs, Rin sat on his bed, leaning against the headboard with his legs on the floor and his hands resting on his lap.

His mind was a whirlwind of emotions. "How did I end up like this?" he wondered as he exhaled out every time the thought came to his mind.

He thought about the promise he'd made to his father and how far he seemed from fulfilling it.

Hayes's words replayed in his mind: "It's not the skill that makes a hunter, but the will."

Determined, Rin clenched his fists. "Father, I'm going to make your dream come true. I won't stop until I've fulfilled your legacy," he vowed silently.

Renewed by his resolve, Rin left his room and headed to the brightly lit living room. However, neither Hayes nor Min-Ju was there.

Confused, he searched the house until he thought to check the study. Sure enough, he found them there, their faces illuminated by the warm glow of a reading lamp.

They appeared to be working on something important.

Rin walked in quietly. "I'm sorry for how I acted earlier," he said, his voice subdued. "I wasn't thinking clearly. I was just... frustrated.

I now know that things don't always go the way we want. I'll try to adapt and move forward."

Both Hayes and Min-Ju looked up, surprised but pleased. Hayes nodded approvingly. "We understand, Rin. It's normal to feel that way.

Anyone would have reacted the same way under those circumstances and we weren't going to allow you to slack of from your dream because of a minor thing."

After their brief exchange, Rin excused himself and returned to his room, allowing Hayes and Min-Ju to resume their discussion.

---

Later that night, Rin already changed into his nightwear with the illumination of his room perceivable sitting on the already made bed while reading a novel his eyes moving through every line of the book smoothly.

Already engrossed in what he was reading, that was when he heard Hayes's voice booming from the living room.

"Rin! Rin!" Hayes called, his voice urgent.

Rin groaned, frustrated by the interruption. "What is it now?" he muttered before heading downstairs. When he arrived, he found Hayes and Min-Ju seated, waiting for him.

Hayes got straight to the point. "Rin, since you don't have any active skills, we're going to have to train you ourselves.

This will be your best shot at getting accepted into the Hunter Academy. The hunter examination isn't just about skills; it's about endurance, strength, and knowledge. We're going to help you improve in all these areas."

Min-Ju chimed in, her tone professional. "We've devised a rigorous training program for you, divided into two phases. I'll be handling your combat training, while Hayes will focus on improving your theoretical knowledge."

Rin raised an eyebrow, surprised by Min-Ju's role in his training. Hayes noticed his expression and chuckled.

"In case you're wondering, Min-Ju is more than just a butler. She's a former A-rank combat hunter. I hired her after she retired. As for me, I'm a research hunter, so I'll be handling your academic preparation."

Min-Ju handed Rin a piece of paper. "Here's your training schedule. We start tomorrow at 5:00 AM sharp."

Rin nodded hesitantly but glanced at the schedule. His eyes widened as he read through the grueling routine outlined on the page.

The look on his face made Hayes and Min-Ju exchange amused glances.

Because Rin couldn't just phantom how he would do what was written.
