Chapter 3: Chapter 3 - Diagon Alley
Outside a small dingy pub with a sign saying "Leaky Cauldron", Felix and Headmaster Dumbledore headed for the door. Unlike the few people who were passing didn't seem to notice this out of place pub, the two could. Not to mention a few gave Headmaster Dumbledore a few looks due to his colorful clothes.
"I know it's a bit random, but why don't you wear a colorful three piece suit instead of a robe? Besides bathrobes, most robes went out of style years ago." Felix asked Dumbledore as they stepped into a sparsely filled pub.
"While they are out of style in the muggle world, they have been in style for the wizarding world for the last few centuries." Dumbledore smiled.
"I think it's past time for clothes to progress past robes. I won't say copy the trends of no-maj, but surely someone can come up with something better than robes." Felix asked.
"There have been a few attempts and not everyone wears robes, but wizards and witches tend to live longer lives compared to muggles, so most of the older ones tend to dress their children or grandchildren in robes. For that is what they wore and the cycle tends to continue with each generation." Dumbledore explained.
"Is that so? Don't Hogwarts also play a role, since it requires sets of robes?" Felix asked suspiciously.
"Indeed, but I don't mind if students get a bit creative in their robe designs. As long as it still resembles a wizarding robe to some degree, I tend to allow it in school." Dumbledore replied.
The two approached a brick wall where a trash can was present. Then after showing him how to count, Dumbledore tapped his wand on a brick which revealed a pathway. Felix just glanced at the magic with a yawn.
It was already nearly five in the afternoon and was a bit late for professors to guide new students. Which is why William chose to stay behind to prepare dinner despite him being more excited to see magic compared to Felix. As for why he didn't get excited upon seeing it, Felix was a bit tired from his demonstration for Dumbledore and traveling to get here. Which made him miss his small nap he usually takes around this time.
"Then can I modify the robes?" Felix asked.
He had a small idea in mind as he took a bit of inspiration from Assassin Creed and a fantasy image of magus robe. While he would have the hood and a general appearance of an assassin robe that was black or dark color like burgundy red. Just unlike the assassin robe, it wouldn't have so many layers and armor pieces on it. Instead it was more similar to Severus Snape Robes for their simplicity.
'Well, he has a terrible personality but he does have some decent clothes.' Felix thought randomly.
While he also thought of making a battle robe, he was just going into his first year and he would just make some later. Since with his ability, he could just learn to make his own clothes later and create the set in a few years. Otherwise, he would have to constantly remake them just to fit, since unlike many believe, cloth only holds so many enchantments and auto sizing would be a waste.
Then one might say, just make it a bit bigger and grow into them. Felix would say it reasonable, but he isn't that ambitious to use them a few times before having to redo the long process again. Since he plans to enchant the robes so much they can be considered mythical to even wizards. So he feels just waiting a few years until his later teens to craft them to be more cost efficient and would also save on a ton of money since enchanting the robes won't be cheap.
"Let me look before I agree." Dumbledore lightly hesitated on this request.
While he just said he would be fine with students customizing their robes a bit. He felt a bit hesitate on Felix more due to custom robes having the ability to be a bit more pricey. So his candy money might vanish on him if he isn't careful.
"Alright," Felix didn't care that much.
If he can't do it this year then so be it, he would just wait for next year. He figured he would have the money to get custom robes for himself. For he plans on selling enchanted objects to others to earn a bit of money for himself to not only avoid trading muggle money with the goblin, but to fund his future projects.
For what he would enchant, it would be a variety of things like glasses to boost reading speed and comprehension of the text. While it might be a bit bold to pull this idea from a manga series, it is a bit useful truth be told. Not to mention he could sell various glasses that read at certain speed and how long the enchantments last at different prices.
Then there is that small device that allows one to change the color of their clothes with a dial. It was more of a small gadget, but to young wizards and witches or those not good at such magic. The sales should be a bit decent.
There is also the Light Pen and having the ability to write in the air with various colors. It might be popular for professors and students.
While looking around, Felix didn't see such items or truth be told he didn't see a whole lot. Most of Diagon Alley was fairly empty and those that were around rushed with their heads covered. Which made Felix remember that Voldemort should be active at this time with his followers.
"Professor, looking at the state of things, are the stores we going to even open?" Felix asked.
"They should." Dumbledore nodded. "Despite the turmoil going on, most still need to make a living and get supplies after all."
"Point taken." Felix nodded.
For the most part it was quick in and out getting the supplies. Most of the stores they stopped by were empty or next to it and most shop attendants were happy to get everything in together quickly due to Albus Dumbledore being there. Since most of the younger ones were students at Hogwarts in the past while the older ones remember Dumbledore teaching them himself.
After getting his measurement and showing the modified robes, Dumbledore agreed to them. The shop attendant even gave some money and added it to their list of possible robes orders. Since in truth it was fairly simple and looked nice.
"Now shall we get you a wand?" Albus Dumbledore said as they looked at a worn down sign.
Before them was a slightly shabby shop where one could see a wand on a pillow behind the window. It was considered one of the best wand shops and the family that ran it had been doing so for over two thousand years. Well claimed to do so, but Felix didn't know how accurate it was or really cared to investigate.
The store in question was Ollivander Wand Shop.
"Might as well. It would be a bit tiring to gather and craft a usable wand before school begins." Felix replied, taking a step forward.
It would also be a bit tricky since while he could see and make the instructions, his actual skills in wand crafting is zero. It was basically being able to see what to do, but a question if his skills would allow him to do it. Much like knowing the principle of Patronus Charm and casting a fully formed one.
Felix didn't doubt he could do what he set his mind to, but claimed to do it on the first try. Then that not so much being a genius or a prodigy but more like a god.
"I wonder what kind of wand will pair up with me."
Upon stepping into the shop, Felix looked around to see hundreds if not thousands of small rectangle boxes on the shelves behind the counter. Alongside this, he also noticed despite some maintenance needed outside, the inside was fairly clean. The only dust he sees is some of the wand boxes that didn't seem to be touched in a while.
Then as he let out another yawn, Felix found a man who he assumed to be Ollivander. Unlike in the movies, he was younger with a few patches of gray in his hair.
"Ah, a new student. Strange, it's been many years since Albus personally escorted a new student."
"Well, the professor that was supposed to visit…fell ill." Felix said after a moment.
"Minerva has been a bit stressed lately so I took over this one." Dumbledore smiled gently.
"Very well. Now what's your name and which arm do you use?" Mr. Ollivander asked.
"Felix Grindelwald, and I'm right handed." His words made Mr. Ollivander freeze in place.
