Hogwarts: The Unscientific Wizard (TL)

Chapter 605: Chapter 605: ‘Will’ is the Defense of the Mind

Could the Obscurus be absorbing the life force of its host?

This is a possibility that Andy had considered before.

However, Andy had ruled it out because he had not felt any loss of life force.

Now, hearing Grindelwald say this, Andy once again thought about this possibility.

Did the host die first, and then the Obscurus left the host? Or did the Obscurus cause the host to die because it left?

Andy had no idea.

But there is no denying that something was wrong with the body of the Obscurial, Credence.

He was very weak!

This was a real-life example!

"You should probably ask Dumbledore about it," Grindelwald said, without answering the question.

Because he didn't know either.

Grindelwald's personality had already been deeply influenced by dark magic at that time, so why would he care about Credence's physical condition?

Moreover, Credence was also on his guard against him. Even if he had a physical problem, he would only hide it and never let Grindelwald examine his body.

"You really should have made a proper examination back then."

Andy sighed, saying rather helplessly, "There are no more Obscurus in my time, and Obscurus have disappeared from Britain for nearly ninety years."

Grindelwald leaned back and didn't reply to this nonsense.

"By the way, what did you mean when you said that parasites absorb nutrients from their hosts to survive? What did you find out?" Andy suddenly asked.

Grindelwald said indifferently, "Scamander believes that Obscurus is a parasitic life form... and the absorption of nutrients from the host is a common characteristic of all parasites."

"You can write to Scamander and ask him about this."

Andy: "..."

"You really don't know much, huh?" Andy sighed.

He knew that Grindelwald was an expert in the dark arts and public speaking, so he naturally wouldn't easily give his opinion on something he hadn't studied.

After thinking for a moment, Andy continued, "It seems I should go ask Professor Dumbledore. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to love, and he was the last person to have contact with Credence."

The old headmaster should know a lot of secrets about the Obscurus.

Because two of his relatives were Obscurials.

Before, Dumbledore had been reluctant to say more, but now that Andy had completed the fusion of mind and magic, Dumbledore might reveal some secrets about the Obscurials.

Thinking about this, Andy was about to hang up the communication, but then Grindelwald suddenly said, "Collins... When an Obscurial experiences an emotional breakdown, they lose control of their senses and release the Obscurus within them."

"The released Obscurus takes the form of an invisible wind. And when the Obscurus is still, it turns into a black mist with no physical form."

"…Have you experienced it?"

After saying this, Grindelwald looked at Andy with sparkling eyes.

He is quite curious about it!

Andy's eyes also lit up upon hearing this.

He had been experimenting with the power of magic before, and then he had asked Grindelwald to study the possible hidden dangers within himself, so he had temporarily neglected this matter.

"I'll try it!"

Andy looked around, then placed the Two-way mirror on a large stone, ready to give Grindelwald a live performance of 'Obscurus Transformation'.

"Well...first, I need to...have an emotional breakdown?"

Andy stood still for a moment, and then his eyebrows furrowed slightly.

Because Andy found that it was very difficult for him to have a real emotional breakdown.

This was different from deceiving magic. To have an emotional breakdown, the first thing you need to do is deceive yourself.

But people cannot deceive themselves!

It has nothing to do with whether one's mind is strong because Andy's [Will] attribute is there.

With 7 points in [Will], Andy is doomed to be unable to have an emotional breakdown.

After struggling for a long time, Andy said with a slight sense of helplessness, "I can't do it!"

"And..."

Andy frowned and said, "I discovered before that magic originally exists between the virtual and the real. I don't know exactly where magic was stored, but it was the kind of thing that could be perceived but not touched."

"But after the mind and magic fused, I discovered that magic seemed to be stored in my mind... No! They have already become one."

"So now I can't deceive my magic!"

Andy tried to recall some unhappy memories or even fake a sad memory, but all of these were ineffective.

His mind might feel something, but it could not reach the breaking point.

Grindelwald: "..."

"Not bad willpower!" Grindelwald praised.

With Grindelwald's magic expertise, he naturally understood the problem Andy was facing.

"Maybe..."

After a moment of silence, Grindelwald said thoughtfully, "I have to say, Willpower is indeed very helpful when fighting the effects of dark magic."

Andy's eyes lit up at this!

He opened the system panel.

[Magic: 6]

[Will: 7]

Andy thought to himself, 'Maybe the [Will] attribute did play a role somehow.'

To be honest, the [Will] attribute may not seem very impressive, and in many cases, it is even useless, but the powerful [Will] attribute has actually protected Andy several times.

Especially during the magic transfiguration.

Without the [Will] attribute, which is as high as seven points, Andy believes that he would not have easily survived that experience.

Mind control magic!

And [Will]...is the defence of the mind!

This is a logical relationship that Andy sorted out a long time ago.

According to this logic, Andy can completely explain his current state.

Regardless of whether there are hidden dangers in that thing that is temporarily called 'Obscurus' inside his body, as long as Andy's Will attribute is strong enough, Andy can ignore these hidden dangers.

Because Andy's 'Will' is strong enough to suppress it!

After pondering for a while, Andy's mood instantly improved.

Because this is the closest thing to the truth—it is the strength of the [Will] attribute that has prevented the hidden dangers of the Obscurus from surfacing.

After thinking about it, Andy still planned to confirm it once more.

"Mr. Grindelwald..."

Andy asked, "If...if my willpower is strong enough, will I be able to resist the hidden dangers caused by the Obscurus? I am talking about the real Obscurus."

Grindelwald thought about it for a moment and said, "In theory, strong willpower can indeed prevent the adverse effects of many dark magics."

"Especially..."

At this point, Grindelwald seemed to suddenly realise something, and he looked at Andy sharply, his eyes shining as he said, "Especially...your magic has been merged with your mind!"

That's right!

Andy had thought of the same thing!

If, under normal circumstances, the 'Will' can only resist the contamination caused by dark magic on the mind and soul.

Then, when magic is fused with the mind, the 'Will' can absolutely restrain the magic!

Because the 'Will' is the defence of the mind!
