Chapter 917: Finale-4
"Mr. Lawyer,I have to leave the rest to you." At this moment, Delphina called out to the crowd behind her which made a group of people come out with several stock of folders.
The professional lawyers were a premeditated plan. Everyone could tell Samuel and Delphina had planned everything even the tiny details of how to oust Bernard from the chairman's seat.
"I am very pleased to serve you, Miss Delphina." Not only lawyer, Delphina also called the French Supervisory Commission officer to see everything was under control. She wanted to do everything by the book.
"Okay, very good, very good." Bernard's chest was puffing up and down due to fury.
In the eyes of others, Bernard's anger had reached the extreme even Delphina was a little bit sad at the moment. After all her actions was destroying her father's prestige.
"Come on, Mr. Bernard, you stop acting. You are secretly pleased with this outcome and you know it. It takes an actor to know when someone is acting. You must be proud." Samuel gave out a hearty laugh which stunned everyone around them. It was loud enough for the microphone to catch up so everyone heard his remarks.
They were baffled. Wasn't it just like rubbing salt on old man's wounds? How could he say such vile things to his face! He had no class at all!
Even Delphina and Alexis tugged the corver of his suit to remind him to be mindful with his words. They didn't want old man to lose his temper.
" Hahahaha." However contrary to everyone's belief, Beenard amstarted laughing. It was a genuine laugh completely different from the fake ones he used often with other guests. Did old man finally lost it? It would be understandable as he was bestes by younger generations in such a ridiculous fashion!
" How? How long since you have known?" Bernard finally stopped asking Samuel in a much more sincere tone.
Others around them were just getting the hang of things. These weird talk started to freak them out like they rehearse the whole thing to provide maximum shock value! But they could also tell the old man practically admitted to his statement.
" Since the day I arrive in the city. I was looking through some of the financial documents that's when I notice you were testing both parties with your antics. Even then I knew you were tampering and molding Delphina for the upcoming turmoil. It wasn't hard to guess your intentions."
" Hahaha, I have to say you really live up to your name. I never knew I would be found out but looking at my dear daughter you seem to have kept her in the dark. I sincerely thank you for going along with my wishes. Beside, I was anticipating some friction but I never thought you would go for my head directly!" He patted Samuel's shoulder like they were long time friends.
Bernard had a keen eye to judge people's character. He could tell from looking at his clear green eyes, the young man was sincere in his statements. He didn't know the reason but as long as he was helping his daughter he didn't care much.
" Sami? What the hell are you two talking about?" Delphina was shocked same as Alexis. They were confused by his sudden revelations.
" Do you remember when I told you in that cafe about your father's secrets? I told you to go ahead with your plan but I already suspected everything he did was to test you. He knows more than anyone how hard it is to run such a large empire, who would want a half assed heir? It would only lead to the destruction of whole empire!" He elaborated but he left the rest to Bernard to explain in private.
Their relationship had been strained a lot over the years but he over time he could see them getting close again.
Alan who was listening to their conversation was in a stupor. Was he only a pawn in his father's game? Shouldn't he be the one leading his empire? Was it all for show to strengthen his sister's position?
"Father, is what he said true?" Alan was dumbfounded, desperate for an answer.
"It's complicated, at least at the beginning, I really wanted to train you as mu protege. But Alan, you....I found that you are really not suitable for this position. For people like youself, you don't care about what happens to your people as long as you are well fed. This would eventually led to you loosing the reigns to someone more capable in the future.
Don't you see the same is happening right now, you were too caught up in your delusion to realise it. " Bernard was calm as he explained to his son. He knew his spoiled son was too stupid to realise that he had been standing on shaky grounds for quite some while.
" When..when did you give up on me?" At this time, his voice trembled a little asking the question. Enjoy new chapters from empire
"Probably a year ago." Bernard glanced at his son apologetically. He knew he couldn't soften the blow but he could remain calm and not show his frustrations.
Alan's shoulder slumped in defeat. He felt like the world was out to get him. Just when he felt at the top of the hierarchy, the reality brought him back to the deapths of despair again.
"Father, then can you tell me, what exactly do you want me to do next? What sort of future did you envision for me?" Alan was still desperate, he looked at his with some hope in his eyes but the old man was embarrassed, he didn't want to hurt his son. Even of he was prodigal, he was still his blood!
"Isn't it clear? As Mr Samuel surmised your existence was a trial for your sister. That doesn't mean you father don't love you but over time you lost your sense of being drowning your achievements in cheap vanity. " In the end, it was Alexis who gave him the truth. The hatred she felt for him was greatly diminished which was replaced by pity, a deep pity for his future.
"Okay, okay, I understand. I understand." At this moment, Alan completely broke down. He could felt everyone's eyes on him, a sense of self loathing and malice enveloped his mind like they were laughing and making fun of him. His arrogant self was broken down, broken just like his will.
