Chapter 11: Chapter 11: The Underwear Thief

No one had expected such a thing to happen. The students merely watched as the police loaded the body into the vehicle and drove away. Their faces were indifferent—after all, they were all new here, and no deep friendships had formed yet. No one realized this was just the beginning of the terror.

After the police took the body away, the students began whispering among themselves. But then, a shrill voice suddenly cried out, "It's Xiao Qing's ghost! She's back to claim lives!"

Then, the speaker dashed away, disappearing in an instant.

Xiao Qing's ghost again?

"How much do you know about this?" Su Jiner glanced in the direction the person had fled, then asked Chu Feifan.

Chu Feifan shook his head. "This has nothing to do with me, and I don't want to get involved. So I don't know anything."

Su Jiner smiled faintly. That was how she felt too. But the ominous premonition lingering in her heart seemed to warn her that she wouldn't be able to stay uninvolved.

Just as she was about to leave, Chu Feifan suddenly grabbed her arm. She turned and looked up at the tall boy—over 180 cm—with a questioning smile. "What is it?"

Chu Feifan released her arm. "Even though I don't know anything about this, I have a bad feeling. So I don't want you getting involved."

Su Jiner met his serious gaze, and something inside her stirred. She averted her eyes. "I won't get involved."

Then she walked away without looking back.

By morning, the incident had spread like wildfire across the campus. No matter where you went, you could hear students whispering in hushed tones.

Few current students knew about what had happened five years ago—only the fourth and fifth-year students had some familiarity with it. But even they seemed deeply unsettled, even if they hadn't personally experienced it.

Despite the incident, classes continued as usual. The campus remained lively, as if nothing had happened. Two days passed in eerie calm. But such unnatural quiet often precedes a storm.

"Lin Yuan, come here!" Su Jiner suddenly called Lin Yuan over to her bed in a mysterious tone.

"What's up, Jiner?"

"I think some of my clothes are missing." Su Jiner sounded troubled.

"What? Things get stolen in our dorm? What's missing?"

"It's… my underwear. The pink set." Su Jiner lowered her voice, embarrassed.

"What?! Underwear?" Lin Yuan's jaw dropped.

Only the four of them and the dorm supervisor, Auntie Zhang, had keys to their room. Who could have taken it?

"Shh! Keep your voice down. This isn't exactly something to broadcast." Su Jiner covered Lin Yuan's mouth.

Lin Yuan nodded, and Su Jiner released her.

"Who could it be? Some perverted underwear thief?"

"I wish that were the case. But then why only take mine and not yours?" Su Jiner sat on her bed, frustrated.

Lin Yuan thought for a moment. "Maybe it's someone at school who has a crush on you?"

"That doesn't make sense. How would they know where I keep my clothes? And why only take one set?"

"So you're saying it's someone we know?"

"I'm just speculating. But the fact is, my underwear is missing." Then, the memory of that night—Li Yiqian's conversation with a man—flashed through her mind.

"Did you bring what I asked for?"

"I have it."

What thing?

What could that man have asked Li Yiqian to bring?

Could it be—

No, that's impossible. She must be overthinking it.

"Jiner, what are you thinking?"

"Oh, nothing. It's just underwear—no big deal." But she already had a suspect in mind. She just hoped she was wrong.

At noon, before Su Jiner could figure out how to confront Li Yiqian, the girl approached her first.

"You found out, didn't you?" Li Yiqian asked abruptly on the dorm balcony.

Su Jiner stared at her in shock. "It was really you?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because I need revenge. This is the only way I can find out who killed my sister." Tears welled up in Li Yiqian's eyes.

"Revenge? Your sister? What are you talking about?"

"My sister is the one they call Xiao Qing. Her real name was Li Yiqing—my biological sister." Her voice was eerily calm now.

"That night, when you mentioned a body… you meant hers."

"Yes. Five years have passed, and we still haven't found her body. We don't even know how she died. And the police? Ha! Useless. They couldn't find her killer. They even had the nerve to say she committed suicide because of academic pressure. Who would believe that? They just didn't want to investigate. A bunch of incompetents who couldn't even locate her body!"

Tears streamed down Li Yiqian's face as she wiped them away. "My sister was kind, cheerful—she would never kill herself. But she died so soon after coming to this school, under mysterious circumstances. Others might believe it was suicide, but I don't. My parents didn't either. After her death, my mother died from grief. My father passed away last year. From the day my sister died, I swore I would come to this school and uncover the truth."

"So you took my underwear to trade for information with that man."

"Yes. And I bet you'd never guess who that man is." She let out a bitter laugh. "It's Zhang Junsheng—the guy from our military training."

"What? Him?"

"Pathetic, isn't it? He's had a crush on you since training but was too cowardly to say anything. And he actually believes my sister's ghost is real!"

Su Jiner recalled Zhang Junsheng's terrified expression on the mountain that day. She had thought his reaction was strange for a guy his age. Now it made sense—he knew more than he let on.

"Su Jiner, I've never begged anyone for anything. But today, I'm begging you—please don't pursue this. I still need Zhang Junsheng. I promise it'll only be this once, okay?"

The thought of her underwear in that pervert's hands disgusted Su Jiner. But seeing Li Yiqian's tear-streaked face, she couldn't bring herself to refuse.

"Fine. I'll let it go. But you have to promise me one thing in return."

"Anything. As long as it helps clear my sister's name, I'll do it."

Su Jiner smiled. "No need to go to extremes. I just want you to promise that if you do find the killer, you'll stay calm. Don't throw your life away."

Li Yiqian looked at her gratefully. "I will."

"Hey! What are you two talking about so secretly?" Lin Yuan suddenly appeared on the balcony, grinning.

Su Jiner exchanged a glance with Li Yiqian. "We were just discussing my missing clothes."

"Did you find out who took them? Was it Yiqian?" Lin Yuan's eyes widened playfully as she pointed at Li Yiqian. "Do you have a crush on our Jiner or something?"

"Stop joking around," Su Jiner said, swatting her hand away. "But you're right—she did take them. But there's a reason."

Seeing their serious expressions, Lin Yuan dropped her teasing tone. "What reason?"

Su Jiner then recounted everything Li Yiqian had told her.

Lin Yuan rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "So you're saying Xiao Qing's killer is still at this school—and it was Xu Mengguang? Wait, does that mean you killed Xu Mengguang?"

Su Jiner sighed. "What kind of logic is that? We never said Xu Mengguang's death was related to Xiao Qing. Xiao Qing died five years ago—back then, Xu Mengguang was still in middle school. How could he have killed her? Use your brain!"

She poked Lin Yuan's forehead lightly.

Lin Yuan glanced at Li Yiqian's sorrowful face. "Sorry! I was just guessing. Don't be mad."

"It's fine." Li Yiqian shook her head. "But I don't think it's that simple. I have a strong feeling these two incidents are connected."

A chill ran down Su Jiner's spine. She had her doubts about Xu Mengguang's death, but since it didn't concern her, she hadn't dwelled on it. Back in high school, she'd heard university death rates were high—but she hadn't expected a death within two weeks of arriving. Now, hearing Li Yiqian's words, she couldn't shake the feeling that this school was hiding dark secrets.

"Jiner, Lin Yuan… I have no family left. I'd give my life to clear my sister's name. But investigating a five-year-old case in a school this big won't be easy. So I'm asking for your help."

Tears spilled from Li Yiqian's eyes, leaving Su Jiner and Lin Yuan at a loss. They exchanged glances before nodding.

"We don't know how much we can help, but we'll try."

"Thank you!" Li Yiqian clutched their hands tightly, as if on the verge of kneeling.

"I'm sorry."

A voice suddenly spoke up.
