Chapter 39: Ch. 39 - Meeting Fushiguro again!
After returning home with the smile of a chimpanzee and the satisfaction of having the date successful, Kenshin came across Yasaka doing the house chores like a cleaning lady, wearing a complete set of apron, a white headband to keep her hair from falling, and a pair of gloves.
She was wiping off the television's LED screen.
"…Yasaka….What are you doing?" Kenshin confusedly asked. Is the princess of the Yokai Faction in Kyoto truly cleaning his house?
The sound of it seems unreal at first until you witness it yourself.
"I'm cleaning?" Yasaka flashed him a smile as if cleaning someone else's house is the norm, which it isn't. Especially in Asia where the owners of the house would refuse to accept the offer of their guests to help in cleaning the house as letting them do so is a sign of bad hospitality.
'Isn't she a princess? Royalties like her never cleaned their homes and they have their servants to do those for them, right?' His mind went to the various novels and films that he watched.
"And you like it?" Her answer came from the fast nodding of her head.
"Of course! Well, I was skeptical at first but when your mother taught me how to wash the dishes and sweep the floor, I started to like how I can literally see the progress I'm making the more I clean!" Just by seeing the bundle of joy in front of him, Kenshin couldn't argue with her.
'Right, there are indeed people like her who enjoy the progress of cleaning…' But still, Kenshin didn't expect someone like her to have it.
When he spread his senses around the house, he noticed that his parents were gone and it was only he, Yasaka, and Tomoko inside.
"Did my parents say something about where they're going? It's almost evening." Kenshin's eyebrows furrowed, worry crept up to his chest, although he silently placed invisible runes on them that would alert him in case they were hurt and protect them from harm by casting a shield that will stick to their skin—the said rune isn't that strong and just durable enough to shrug off bullets and blunt attacks. Basically, a protective rune against humans. It's not just her parents but also Tomoko, Sawako, and Alya.
As for Yasaka, she's literally just as strong or perhaps stronger than him currently, so he sees no point in putting a protective rune on her and instead, just gave her the alert rune.
"They told me that they're going on a grocery run." Hearing her answer slightly made him sigh in relief. Well, he knows where they usually go when buying groceries and he can get there in seconds in case the rune alerts him.
"And mom told you to clean while they're gone?" Kenshin's mouth twitched when Yasaka nodded her head as an answer.
'Mom, are you serious about letting a guest do house chores?' He internally sighed in his mind. He made a note to himself to remind his mother later of how they treat guests.
'Is she doing this because she doesn't see Yasaka as a guest? If so, then what does she see her as?' Unfortunately, this question would remain unanswered for now.
"You can stop now. I can handle the cleaning." Just as he was about to snap his finger and cast the cleaning spell, Yasaka immediately jumped forward to stop him.
"Wait stop! Noooo!" The panic in her voice made him snap his head at her, bearing the same manner.
"What? What!?"
"I-I want to clean like physically. No magic." Yasaka explained with a hint of embarrassment.
"Why?" Kenshin squinted her eyes at her, curious about the reason behind it.
"….This is my first time cleaning by myself without using any magic. Can you please let me do it?" Yasaka's eyes turned large like a cat's, causing Kenshin to clench his teeth and finally relent.
"Fine. But I'll help you. This isn't how we treat our guests."
With that being said, for the next few hours, Kenshin and Yasaka cleaned the living room, kitchen, and dining room before proceeding to the 2nd floor.
They didn't bother with Kenshin's room as his room was already squeaky clean. So they proceeded to Tomoko's room where the little sister was heavily sleeping on her bed with crumpled clothes and drool on her face.
The moment they entered her room, they were immediately met with the darkness of the room, as if threatening to consume their entire being even their shadow.
The musky and stench smell also hit their nostrils like a speeding truck, causing them to gag.
"Eugh." Kenshin made a disgusted face and this time, only this time, he used magic to clean her, instantly wiping away her drool, fixing her messy hair, and straightening her crumpled clothes.
"And what's with the smell in here? It smells like sweat and something fishy…" Kenshin covered his nose with mana, effectively shielding his nose from the intense mysterious smell.
"I wonder…." Yasaka also wondered but with a sly smile as she stared at Tomoko's sleeping figure.
"This must be a haven for you, huh?" Kenshin mumbled as he scanned the room with his eyes. Everywhere he looked, there were trash and crumpled soda cans and junk foods, flies hovering beneath them—fighting over the small bits and pieces of chips and crumbles scattered across the floor.
"It's like she never cleaned this room her entire life." He muttered under his breath with great disbelief in his tone. It's like seeing the belt being held by your father just as he was about the unleash the beast and show you the infamous father's love.
Eventually, they still managed to clean the room, and much to his surprise, Tomoko slept so heavily that despite the sound of wiping, brushing, sweeping, and their silent whispering, she went through it all and had the best sleep in her entire life.
The only thing they didn't clean was her bed, since technically the girl was lying there with a brand new drool on her face.
Along the way as they cleaned the house, Kenshin managed to get to know Yasaka better.
For example, she barely had any friends when she was a child as almost all Yokai children would simply worship her and her mother or would only befriend her with malicious intentions, to get close to her or her family for influence.
Now that he thinks about it, why are all of his current friends, Sawako, Yasaka, and Alya, all women and have barely had any friends?
Sawako, due to her Sadako-like appearance.
Alya, due to her past of being cold to kids her age due to their incompetence and lack of determination
And finally, Yasaka with her royal princess status.
'At this point, it won't take long for me to have various female friends with childhood problems.' Shaking these kinds of thoughts away from his mind, Kenshin refocused on his current problem at hand.
Take things slowly.
"We're done here, let's go." He said to Yasaka who nodded her head in return and they both left the room that is no longer as musky-smelling as a love hotel room with poor cleaning services and as dirty as an old man's room in a shelter for the old.
Once outside, they both sat on the sofa, finally taking a deep breath, their shoulders relaxing under the soft spot they're leaning on along with the comfort of their sitting position.
"It was fun, right? Have you never cleaned your house like me?" Yasaka smiled and turned to Kenshin in question, to which the man answered with closed eyes.
"I do clean sometimes, but that was like, years ago. As of now, I just use magic to do the job."
Silence ensued between the two of them for a few minutes, and only their breathing and the tick of the wall clock every second could be heard.
Gurgle
Kenshin's head snapped to the side where Yasaka was burying her head with a pillow as he could see the blush creeping up on her ears. The sound of her stomach once again made a growling sound, as if it came to life just to file a complaint of abuse from its owner.
"I'll cook." Without further ado, Kenshin stood from the sofa and sauntered to the kitchen to cook them a dinner for the night.
"I-I'll help you!" Yasaka, embarrassed by the fact that it was her own hunger that caused Kenshin to cook, felt guilty and wanted to help decrease Kenshin's burden.
Something that Kenshin appreciated at first until a few minutes later, the said help of decreasing the burden just turned into increasing instead.
Not only does Yasaka not know how to cook but her reckless movements also caused him some trouble. Casseroles flying in the air, spices falling on the floor, utensils finding themselves outside in the garden, and her hand mistakenly grabbing the fish sauce instead of the soy sauce, and grabbing sugar instead of salt.
Eventually, they spent hours in the kitchen with nothing being cooked yet and Kenshin had to make the hard decision to kick her out of it lest she accidentally cause an explosion.
An hour later and Kenshin finally placed a bowl of Gyudon, a Japanese Beef Rice Bowl.
The Gyudon's tasty aroma quickly invaded Yasaka's nostrils, causing her senses to go haywire and before she knew it, drool started to leak from her lips.
"Don't eat yet, I'll call Tomoko so we can eat togeth—" Before Kenshin could finish his words, something inside his mind suddenly clicked as two of his protective runes were activated by default.
Without wasting any more time, Kenshin quickly disappeared from his place, jumping out of the window and casting a flight and invisibility spell onto himself at the same time.
Yasaka only saw a blur and was followed by the sonic booms outside the house before she finally reacted.
———
Kenshin could feel the air currents smashing against his face like a thousand leaf blowers in maximum output. His clothes quickly disappeared from his body and were replaced by his black garb that seemed to fuse with the darkness of the night. His face was also covered by the ominous Oni mask.
Seconds passed and he arrived at the supermarket, that is now covered by what Kenshin could assume as a barrier or a curtain.
"Jujutsu Sorcerers." One look at the ground and after seeing the familiar figure of a thin man with glasses, sunken cheeks, and eyebags, he quickly deduced that the Jujutsu Sorcerers are here and whatever caused his protective runes on his parents to activate must've been a Cursed Spirit.
Kenshin clenched his fists. He rarely gets angry at things just so you know. The fact that his parents are inside the curtain is enough for him to know that whoever they're dealing with is not an average Cursed Spirit. If it's a weak one, then the Jujutsu Sorcerers wouldn't bother to place a Curtain but the fact that they did so means the Cursed Spirit is strong enough to pose a threat to its surroundings.
Just as Kenshin was about to head inside and search for his parents, an argument from below caught his attention first.
"Let me in, Ijichi! I can help them!" The familiar voice of Fushiguro rang from the argument.
"Fushiguro-san, you're not an official Jujutsu Student yet, so please leave this to the Jujutsu Sorcerers and the first-years." Followed by the voice of the lanky man from earlier, Ijichi, a sort of assistant for Jujutsu Sorcerers.
Kenshin gave Fushiguro a look of recognition before remembering that his parents are in danger.
So he ignored him and pierced through the Curtain. To his surprise, he Curtain easily lets him in, as if recognizing him as a Jujutsu Sorcerer.
'It must be my Nuclear Fusion Reactor skill that gave me access to all kinds of energy including the Curse Energy.' Kenshin gave himself the answer in his mind before his magical senses spread across the entire Supermarket like a cobweb, leaving no corner behind.
It didn't take him long to find the position of the Cursed Spirit and his parents who seemed to be huddled up together with other survivors in a storage room.
One thing that he noticed from this feat was the strength of the Cursed Spirit.
Even though he has not encountered higher grades of Cursed Spirits but from the sheer thickness and enormous amount of his Cursed Energy which is ten times that of Nanami, was enough for Kenshin to tell that this particular Cursed Spirit might be a Special-grade Cursed Spirit!
