How to Run Away from Obsessed Men

Episode 89

Episode 89

As Raysis looked at Lindsey and Mikhail, someone approached him. It was Karen.

Raysis turned to look at Karen. He briefly glanced at the sword hanging at his waist, then shook his head.

“Kalia Riken has demanded that Lindsey be placed under her protection.”

“Kalia will understand. It’s not good to separate Lindsey from Mikhail right now.”

“Will Lindsey never wake up?”

At Raysis’s question, Karen fell silent. Raysis silently observed him.

He placed his hand on his sword.

His actions now depended on Karen’s answer.

“You can kill me now if you wish.”

“Karen Rosset. I’m not playing games. Do you know how many people would love to slit your throat?”

At Raysis’s angry words, Karen gave a bitter smile.

As Raysis said, there were many who wanted to kill Karen.

Karen remembered meeting Kalia Riken not long ago.

Seeing the immense fury in her eyes, he had been terrified.

Had his years not been so long, he would have been overwhelmed by Kalia.

Karen shook his head as if not wanting to think about it.

“I know. Duke Riken truly wanted to kill me.”

“So you better answer me properly.”

“Once again, killing me now would be a foolish decision.”

Karen spoke as he looked down at Lindsey and Mikhail.

He truly wanted to see the two of them wake up.

The price for putting Lindsey in danger, he wanted to pay it afterward.

“Just wait a little longer. If the two of them can wake up…”

Raysis placed his sword to Karen’s neck.

“It doesn’t matter if they wake up or not. What I want to know is if Lindsey will wake up.”

At his words, Karen gave a bitter smile. He had also thought about it when meeting Kalia, but he knew that touching Lindsey recklessly was not an option.

‘What have I done?’

If Lindsey didn’t wake up, Raysis wouldn’t leave him alone. He would make him suffer a fate worse than death.

‘Too many people are after my life.’

Was it only Raysis?

Kalia Riken and Kenyan Radian felt the same way.

He recalled the image of Kenyan, choking his neck, shouting in rage.

If Lindsey didn’t return…

A horrible thought made a cold sweat run down his spine.

Karen knew what answer Raysis wanted.

‘He wants an answer that Lindsey Kesion will safely return.’

He too wanted to tell Raysis that.

But…

“I’m sorry, but I can’t be sure of anything.”

Karen gave his best answer.

Nothing was certain. Lindsey might never wake up, and that was true for Mikhail as well.

“Everything depends on Lady Lindsey Kesion’s hands.”

Mikhail opened his eyes.

He looked around, completely confused.

‘Am I alive?’

He moved his fingers.

His body, moving perfectly, felt strange. No, more than that, could his body even move?

He should have been dead.

Each time he defied fate, didn’t the intensity of the goddess’s power grow stronger?

‘It doesn’t hurt.’

The terrifying pain that felt like his body was being ripped apart was nowhere to be found.

It was as if he had returned to being a normal person.

‘It’s like when I was Baek Ji-hyuk.’

His clear mind felt unsettlingly unfamiliar.

He looked around with a blank face.

“Are you awake? So it really worked. She’s quite amazing.”

At the familiar voice, Mikhail looked up. Karen was there.

Karen was looking at him with a complicated expression. He seemed both relieved and sad.

Mikhail made a displeased face.

He couldn’t understand why Karen was here.

Karen Rosset was supposed to be dead. He had left the Rosset family and settled in the Asen Empire, never to return.

It had been a long time since he lost contact with him.

The fact that Karen was beside him felt ominous.

“What happened?”

“Mikhail Dweisi, it’s been a year since you lost consciousness.”

Mikhail furrowed his brows.

His face was eerily still. As soon as he opened his eyes, he searched for Lindsey’s presence, but he couldn’t feel anything.

Since Lindsey’s birth, Mikhail had never been far from her side.

He always rushed to her when she was in danger.

The woman he loved often found herself in dangerous situations.

The presence of Lindsey, which he had always felt clearly, was completely absent now. That fact made Mikhail anxious.

He spoke to Karen with an urgent look.

“What about Lindsey?”

“Mikhail, she did everything she could to wake you up. You know what it’s like to meet your end, consumed by the goddess’s power.”

Karen’s words only made Mikhail angry. He could tell that Karen had meddled with Lindsey somehow.

“Karen Rosset. Answer me, why are you here?”

“We’ve endured many long years. We tried to break free from the fate set before us.”

If their fate was to endure long years, there was nothing more miserable than that.

“Do you know how terrifying it is to die by the goddess’s power… Even the soul cannot be saved.”

Mikhail slowly got to his feet. A year had passed while he was unconscious, but his body was in perfect condition. The careful maintenance of his body at the Kesion Marquisate was evident.

But none of that mattered to him. Mikhail grabbed Karen by the throat.

He asked in a threatening tone.

“I asked, where is Lindsey?”

Karen closed his eyes tightly.

“Don’t you feel it? In your mind. She’s in your mental world.”

Mikhail’s aura grew more aggressive. Karen instinctively took a step back. If he said anything wrong, Mikhail would…

In the year that he had faced many threats to his life, there had never been a more terrifying enemy than now.

‘He really is consistent. Whenever Lindsey’s name comes up, he loses his mind.’

Thinking this, Karen grabbed Mikhail’s hand. Now was not the time to be arguing with him.

“Mikhail, I’m sorry to say this to someone who just woke up, but there’s not much time.”

Lindsey was healing the goddess’s power that resided within Mikhail.

She hated the goddess, but she could not deny that the divine power she had been given was useful.

Lindsey smiled bitterly at this thought.

‘Has much time passed?’

What she was doing was healing Mikhail in his dreams, a task Karen had guided her to undertake.

Lindsey thought about Mikhail.

He was completely different from Baek Ji-hyuk, but still the same person.

‘He really is a fool.’

The transcendent beings in this world viewed dying consumed by the goddess’s power as a sin.

They believed that even their souls would be tormented by her. So, they chose death before the goddess’s power could fully consume them.

But Mikhail had pushed himself to the limit to save Lindsey.

Lindsey couldn’t allow him to remain in that situation. Karen’s choice had been a rational one.

Though it was purely for Mikhail’s sake, Lindsey understood him.

She continuously watched the actions he had taken.

Karen had always been by Mikhail’s side. And Lindsey saw how long Mikhail had endured, just to save her.

‘Karen spent time with Mikhail. It’s only natural that he would want the best for him.’

Karen couldn’t have allowed Mikhail to face the worst fate.

The most horrifying death, one that transcendents dreaded the most—being driven mad by the goddess’s power.

Thanks to Karen, Lindsey could heal Mikhail from the deepest part of his mind.

There were several dangerous moments, where any normal transcendent could have gone berserk. But Mikhail, being as strong as he was, withstood them admirably.

The goddess’s power gradually stabilized, but that was as far as it went. If Lindsey wasn’t there, the goddess’s power was always ready to turn violent.

But Lindsey didn’t feel lonely.

Perhaps it was because she was in Mikhail’s mental world, but it felt like she was always with him.

‘I don’t even want to leave.’

She had begun to think that just recently, the thought of leaving didn’t appeal to her at all.

That’s when she heard it.

“Han Ji-yoo.”

Startled by the sudden voice, Lindsey turned her head.

“Baek Ji-hyuk?”

Lindsey looked at the person in front of her, as if she couldn’t believe her eyes.
