Episode 91
Episode 91
“Mikhail, I told you not to stay too far from Lady Lindsey.”
“Don’t follow me, Karen.”
“Now’s not the time for you to act so cool. Do you even know what kind of strain it puts on your body when you’re apart from Lady Lindsey?”
“Quiet.”
“You didn’t leave her side when she was unconscious, but now that she’s trying to wake up, you’re leaving?”
“Lady Kalia asked me to.”
“Since when have you become so obedient to others’ requests?”
“I told you not to follow me.”
“You have no idea how much I’ve done to keep you alive, do you?”
The noise was getting louder.
It was the familiar sound of two people arguing.
Karen and Mikhail.
Lindsey’s anxiety faded the moment she saw who was entering through the door.
Mikhail walked in, and the instant their eyes met, Lindsey felt as though time had stopped.
Now that it was certain he was Baek Ji-hyuk, it was harder for her to look at him as she once had.
She knew the time Mikhail had spent saving her.
‘In the end, he did it.’
Both Mikhail and she had survived, neither one dead.
Lindsey couldn’t believe it.
She grabbed Kalia’s hand and spoke.
“Mother, I’d like to speak with him alone for a moment.”
After a moment of glaring at Mikhail in displeasure, Kalia nodded.
She wasn’t happy about losing Lindsey to Mikhail after such a long separation.
But when she saw Lindsey’s pale face, her frustration faded. Though she didn’t like Mikhail, she wanted to do everything Lindsey asked, especially seeing how fragile she was.
As everyone else left the room, Mikhail slowly walked toward Lindsey.
She didn’t know what to say to him.
Baek Ji-hyuk’s face, the one who had spent such painful years after losing Han Ji-yoo, appeared in her mind.
At the same time, she remembered Mikhail’s face, the man who had begun living under the name Mikhail in a completely foreign world.
If she hadn’t known him, it would have been one thing. But now, she knew everything about his past.
The moment she saw him, Lindsey’s throat tightened.
How could she speak about those years?
Mikhail, looking at her, opened his mouth.
“Lindsey.”
His voice was as sweet as honey, soft and comforting. Anyone who knew Mikhail would be astonished by how gentle he sounded.
Mikhail finally spoke the words he had been waiting so long to say.
“I promised, didn’t I? No matter where you were, I’d come find you.”
Lindsey’s face twisted as if she were about to cry. It was a phrase she had heard in her life as Han Ji-yoo, something said almost like a childish complaint.
Sometimes, she had been afraid that she might return to her life as Lindsey Kesion, and those words had been a way of holding on.
Even if she returned to Lindsey’s life, Lindsey thought that if Baek Ji-hyuk was by her side, she wouldn’t be afraid. She believed that as long as she was with him, she would be happy wherever she lived.
So, right now, Lindsey was happy.
So happy it almost felt overwhelming.
Lindsey barely responded to Mikhail’s words.
“I missed you.”
She opened her collar slightly.
The cold wind brushed against her body.
“It’s winter.”
Felia nodded repeatedly at Lindsey’s words.
“Exactly. Lady Lindsey, you’ve been out for so long. Everyone was worried, wondering if you’d ever wake up.”
“Everyone was worried?”
“Yes, so many things have happened. Even Lady Bianca stayed at the Kesion Marquisate for a while. If it weren’t for Her Highness Princess Rebecca’s imperial command, she might have stayed much longer.”
“It’s a pity I didn’t get to see Lady Bianca’s face.”
“You’ll probably see her at Princess Rebecca’s coronation soon.”
Felia shrugged as she spoke. Lindsey looked at Felia with a puzzled expression.
She wondered why Felia hadn’t returned to the Rosset family.
After Lindsey had fallen asleep, Felia could have easily gone back to the Rosset family.
But she stayed at the Kesion Marquisate the whole time Lindsey was unconscious.
“Why didn’t you go back to the Rosset family?” Felia answered with a curious look on her face.
“Of course, I was worried about Lady Lindsey.”
Lindsey looked at Felia with a strange expression.
“That, and it was fun watching Sir Karen.”
Lindsey burst into laughter.
She had heard how precarious Karen’s life had been while Lindsey was asleep.
Felia shuddered as if recalling something frightening.
“Sir Karen nearly died. The scariest part when we were angry with him was when Duke Riken and Sir Mikhail were involved.”
“……”
“But still, he barely stayed alive to wake you up, Lady Lindsey. Even while going to bed, he always felt like his life was in danger.”
As she spoke, Felia shook her head.
“I didn’t think a person could become so thin in just one year. His handsome face was ruined, too.”
She sighed in relief.
“But after Lady Lindsey woke up and told us not to blame Sir Karen, things got a little better.”
Lindsey nodded.
In fact, she was grateful to Karen. After all, he had worked together with Mikhail to save her.
Karen had promised to serve by Lindsey’s side for the rest of his life to atone for his sins, but Mikhail drove him away.
“Stop with the nonsense and get lost.”
“Nonsense? How can I be sure you won’t do something again if I’m not around? Your body still isn’t fully stabilized. I need to stay by your side.”
“Be thankful that Lindsey has spared your life.”
“That’s why I’ll stay by your side and repay the favor for the rest of my life.”
Lindsey smiled faintly.
The way Mikhail treated Karen reminded her of Baek Ji-hyuk.
Baek Ji-hyuk had acted similarly toward those he considered comrades.
That’s when…
“Lindsey.”
At the warm voice calling her name, Lindsey looked up.
Mikhail had appeared, and he was looking at her. Felia quickly stood up and moved away.
Lindsey admired her.
No matter when, Felia was quick to sense things.
“It’s already that time?”
Lindsey, still holding Mikhail’s hand, infused him with divine power.
“It must be uncomfortable. You need to be healed by the goddess’s power every few hours.”
Though Lindsey had entered his mind and healed the goddess’s power, she had not been able to completely heal it.
Mikhail had to seek Lindsey out several times a day. Other clerics’ healing didn’t work on him.
The divine power of other clerics only made the goddess’s power within him even more violent.
‘Karen said he doesn’t know why. Could it be a side effect of me entering his mental world?’
Lindsey felt sorry for Mikhail.
He had become someone who couldn’t live without her by his side.
“No, I like seeing you often. Even the goddess I once hated, I’ve started to like her these days.”
Mikhail smiled as he spoke. Though the healing was done, Mikhail didn’t move from his spot.
Lindsey looked at him, her thoughts in turmoil.
“Shall we walk a bit?”
Lindsey nodded, holding onto Mikhail’s hand.
As they walked through the Marquisate, Lindsey was filled with an unknown emotion.
It had been weeks since she woke up, but the place still felt unfamiliar.
Everyone at the Kesion Marquisate was kind to her. And it wasn’t just them.
Other nobles visiting the Kesion family were overly kind to her as well.
‘I heard that everyone now knows I’m Duke Riken’s daughter.’
The situation that had once been full of scorn and hatred toward Lindsey Kesion had completely reversed.
“They say Raysis wants to see me. Kenyan feels the same way.”
Lindsey said this, then looked at Mikhail with a strange expression.
“What do you want to do? You don’t have to see them if you don’t want to.”
Mikhail’s words made Lindsey mumble softly.
“I’m not sure myself.”
“You can take your time to think it over.”
“Right now, there’s someone else I want to see.”
Now that her body had fully recovered, Lindsey’s expression became resolute.
“I heard Crain’s execution will be in a few days.”
I heard that Flute was imprisoned in the imperial dungeons. As a member of the royal family, his execution wouldn’t be made public.
Knowing Princess Rebecca’s firm personality, he probably wouldn’t be killed easily.
But Crain was different from Flute. He was about to be publicly punished for his crimes of collusion with the Eastern Empire.
‘I want to confirm that my fate has truly changed.’
Lindsey wanted to meet Crain before he was punished.
