Hunter X Hunter: Tombbound Power

Chapter 302: 302 Nen of Emuksu

"Let's head out for now. It'll take some time to repair your weapon and for Ging to recover. In the meantime, we can chat," Emuksu suggested with a casual wave of his hand.

Ronnel glanced at Ging, submerged in a green nutrient solution, and couldn't help but smile. He nodded in agreement, following Emuksu to the reception room.

There, Emuksu generously poured cups of rich Anyi black tea, setting the stage for an engaging conversation.

Emuksu's diverse interests ranged across many fields, and his knowledge was broad, if not always deep. Ronnel, on the other hand, came from another world, shaped by an era of rapid technological advancement. While he wouldn't call himself an expert, his insights into technology gave him a unique perspective in a world where the pace of innovation lagged decades behind his own.

The two found themselves discussing everything from southern traditions and maritime lore to the intricacies of combat techniques and Nen-based abilities.

Naturally, the conversation drifted toward their mutual connection: Ging.

From the Greed Island game to his role as a member of the Twelve Zodiacs, from his renovation of the famous Ruluka Ruins to his status as one of the "world's top five Nen users," Ging was a topic that could sustain endless discussion.

Of course, Ging's infamous bad habits and stubborn personality also came up, eliciting a stream of humorous complaints from Emuksu.

As Emuksu's tirade about Ging's faults threatened to last all evening, Ronnel chuckled and tactfully steered the conversation toward the fascinating tools scattered around the room.

"These are incredible... Are they all created with your Nen?"

Emuksu smiled knowingly. "That's right. My Nen ability lets me make these tools."

Ronnel had suspected as much, but hearing it confirmed piqued his curiosity further.

"Nen, huh? If it's sensitive, you don't have to explain—"

"It's not sensitive," Emuksu interrupted, waving dismissively. "If you've seen enough of my creations, you can probably guess the general direction of my ability. The real mystery lies in the restrictions I've imposed, but I don't mind sharing."

He poured more tea as he began to elaborate.

"My ability is called [An Interest That Cannot Be Lived Up To]. The name's odd, I know. But it reflects how I approach life—driven by imagination and curiosity."

Ronnel leaned in, intrigued.

"The effect is straightforward: I can create objects based on my hobbies, interests, and fantasies. Because I'm constantly coming up with new ideas, I developed a Nen ability that taps into that creativity."

Emuksu's gaze grew distant, his tone briefly nostalgic. "Of course, every ability comes with a price. Mine has two distinct branches, each with different limitations."

He explained the branching structure of Nen abilities. Much like how Gon's Jajanken combined Enhancement and Emission, or how Kurapika's chains incorporated elements of multiple categories, Emuksu's ability diverged into two paths:

Props with Inherent Costs: These objects came with limitations tied to their usage, such as time constraints or specific conditions. Cost-Free Props: These required immense effort and Nen to create but could be used without restrictions once completed.

"For example," Emuksu continued, gesturing at two items on the nearby table, "Angel's Breath and Nutritional Therapy Machine both serve the same purpose—healing.

"However, Angel's Breath works instantly and can be used anytime without a cost to the user. On the other hand, the Nutritional Therapy Machine is slower, requires the patient to remain still inside it, and imposes several conditions for successful treatment."

Ronnel nodded, his expression thoughtful.

"The choice I make while crafting determines the nature of the object. If I prioritize convenience for the user, I have to bear a greater burden during creation. Conversely, if I shift the cost to the user, the strain on me lessens."

Emuksu's eyes twinkled with amusement. "In the end, it's all about balancing power and limitation. That's the beauty of Nen."
