Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Unexpected
When he flew to the release point 32, a very thick alloy chain was released. Qianlong controlled the Harvester, grabbing the alloy chain with one hand and flying down to the bottom fixed frame 47 to secure it.
To be honest, the task wasn't difficult at all. The main issue was that the outer battle had reached a fever pitch, and everyone operating the Harvester was on edge, especially with a few stragglers occasionally slipping through.
The Guardian personnel were stretched thin and couldn't clear the intruding stragglers in time, which slowed down progress.
Qianlong held onto the alloy chain and began to fly around the iceberg, wrapping it around and securing it in place.
As he completed the task, similar tasks began to display one after another. If he guessed correctly, these were tasks belonging to other Harvesters that could no longer complete their missions.
Qianlong continued working; the faster he completed the tasks, the better.
Seven hours later, when Qianlong finally finished his last task, no new tasks were assigned.
Only one prompt appeared: Final adjustments will be made within half an hour, at which point the Shark will operate at full power to lift the sunken part of the glacier, and all Harvesters will enter patrol mode.
Qianlong couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. He wiped the sweat from his forehead; he had finally completed it.
Before long, accompanied by a tremendous roar, the four power engines on the Shark began to operate at full capacity, and the Shark started to rise slowly, correcting the tilt of the iceberg.
"Adjusting angle, 5%, 10%, 15%… 80%."
The people present watched as the correction values approached normal levels, their hearts rising to their throats.
At that moment, a massive explosion echoed through the sky.
"Warning, Bug Nest detected." Phantom provided the alert.
Qianlong looked up, only to see that a Bug Nest had opened above the iceberg, and a leviathan bug, as large as a light cruiser, crawled out.
Its appearance wasn't the problem; it was that this leviathan suddenly leaped from the Bug Nest like a cannonball, plummeting towards the iceberg.
Boom. "Not good!" Jiela, who was directing, felt a sinking feeling in her heart.
She quickly issued orders, "Harvester, brace the iceberg, command the Guardian to eliminate that bug."
The leviathan crashed heavily onto the edge of the iceberg. The iceberg, which was in the process of being corrected, tilted immediately from the impact, and the staff on the Mushroom were violently pulled, causing chaos.
Kola shouted, "Force the engine power up to 105%."
"Understood."
Qianlong's screen displayed the latest task: support the iceberg from below.
"Not good!!!!"
The iceberg began to tilt rapidly under the impact.
Jiela's heart raced, almost to her throat.
As the iceberg approached a critical tilt, the speed began to slow down.
At the bottom of the iceberg, Qianlong piloted the Harvester, activating the mechanical arms to support the base, cranking the power to maximum. Sparks flew from the arms, and it looked like they would not hold on much longer.
One by one, other Harvesters flew to Qianlong's side, extending their mechanical arms to support the base.
As more and more Harvesters joined in, the tilt of the iceberg gradually stabilized.
"Alert, danger level rising." Phantom's voice echoed in Qianlong's mind.
Qianlong, puzzled, asked, "What's going on?"
"11 o'clock direction, a large number of Zerg have breached the defense line. Calculations show you will become the primary target; evasion is advised." Phantom suggested.
Qianlong took a deep breath and shook his head, "There's no way to escape. If we run at this critical moment, it would definitely violate military orders, and in the vast sea of stars, there's nowhere else to go. This is our last hope."
Phantom replied, "Rejecting the first suggestion, initiating the second plan, activating camouflage spores."
Before Qianlong could react, he suddenly noticed a special liquid seeping from his hand, dripping into the cockpit and seeping into the mech.
Then, a faint film appeared on the exterior of Qianlong's Harvester, which was nearly invisible unless closely inspected.
In the eyes of the Zerg, Qianlong's Harvester vanished completely, while everything else remained unchanged.
"Hold on, just a little longer, we're almost there." The nearby Harvesters encouraged each other over the communication channel.
"Damn it, how could such a large bug land on the iceberg?"
"No need to complain; one bug can't cause much trouble. It's just relying on the force of its fall to force the iceberg to tilt. Once we stabilize, it will be corrected quickly."
Just as these Harvesters said, it indeed couldn't cause much trouble. The iceberg began to correct itself again, and the leviathan on top was surrounded by numerous Guardians, quickly becoming battered and bruised, and would soon be killed.
However, because of this, the originally precarious defense line had a breach.
"I must relax properly when we get back; this is truly unbelievable."
"Are you planning to squander again?"
Qianlong quietly listened to their chatter, waiting for everything to return to normal.
Just then, beams of green light shot towards the Harvester at the bottom of the iceberg.
Sizzle. "Damn it, I've been hit."
"Don't panic, which part was hit? Try to maintain your mech's power, then…"
Before the words were finished, a piercing explosion sounded, followed by a hissing noise.
"Ushi! Ushi! Respond!"
The first Harvester hit called out anxiously.
Qianlong looked at the optical imaging on the screen and saw the Harvester to his left instantly knocked down by a Eru bug, its abdomen spraying highly corrosive liquid that dissolved the Harvester. The Harvester fought back, extending its mechanical arm to grab the bug and shut down its power engine, plummeting together with the bug.
Boom. Explosions continued to sound around him as Harvester after Harvester fell.
Jiela, directing from the Hyberian, shouted angrily, "Who was responsible for the defense at 11 o'clock? Why did they breach?"
A hoarse voice replied, "The Fatty guard team at 11 o'clock has been completely wiped out."
Jiela's expression froze as she slammed her hand down hard on the metal panel of the control station.
"Order the Shell team responsible for attacking the leviathan to intercept."
"Rejected."
The old man from the mining department said calmly.
Jiela turned angrily to the minister, "Minister?"
"The parameters are about to be corrected. The iceberg will soon be lifted, and that leviathan has been eliminated. The mission is complete."
"But the Harvesters!"
"Send nearby Guardians to disrupt them."
"How could that be on time?"
"Even if it's not on time, they must come. There's no other way; only by lifting the iceberg can they avoid becoming targets."
Jiela fell silent.
Qianlong looked around in shock as Harvesters exploded one after another. He was the only one left, standing alone, still holding on.
