I Am Honkai

Chapter 5: Heading To Academy City

Vienna International Airport is located 18 kilometers southeast of Austria's capital, Vienna. It serves as Austria's aviation hub and is the busiest and largest airport in the country.

The sky was clear, with no clouds in sight, and the weather was pleasant.

"Little Selene, look at the beautiful weather today."

Selene got out of the private luxury car, the warm sunlight felt very comfortable. Behind her were the Brauchitsch couple, her mother Katie in a white sun hat, and her father Brauchitsch in his ever-present black suit.

Yes, today was the day Selene was leaving for 'Academy City.'

Now 12 years old, Selene stood at 165 cm tall, with fine waist-length white hair, a doll-like delicate face, ruby-like diamond-shaped pupils, and skin as white as a freshly peeled egg, making her look like an elfin girl.

The private jet from Academy City had already arrived.

A month ago, during a family trip, Selene had 'revealed' her high-level spatial abilities. To better develop her abilities, the Brauchitsch couple contacted Academy City.

Upon learning about the rare spatial ability user, Academy City immediately invited Selene to join and sent representatives repeatedly to establish contact.

However, due to family reasons, Selene postponed her departure for a month.

A group of people were waiting at the plane's gangway. Seeing Selene, an elderly man with short gray hair walked over. He was dressed in a work uniform, hunched over but quite tall, with squinted eyes and a birthmark on his left temple.

Looking at him, Selene had a strong impression of a mad scientist. His gaze made her very uncomfortable.

"Who is he?" Selene thought silently.

[Kihara Gensei, director of the Advanced Education Bureau and Kihara Institute of Academy City. It is likely that he is here personally because he values your spatial abilities and wants to build a relationship, possibly to persuade you to join his research institution or obtain your DNA profile.]

"Miss Habsburg, I am here to pick you up," Kihara Gensei said in his old, hoarse voice.

Seeing the Brauchitsch couple behind her, he nodded slightly, "Good day, sir. Good day, madam."

Brauchitsch frowned at Kihara Gensei's appearance, "I have some things to discuss with Selene. Please wait a moment."

He then called Selene over, "Going to Academy City for school, I believe with your abilities, you will achieve extraordinary results. But be careful, Academy City is filled with corruption and darkness. Be cautious in everything."

"Going so far away to study, take good care of yourself," Katie immediately hugged her, looking somewhat sad.

"...You might not be able to come back often."

Selene smiled and shook her head, "I will come back often. Trust me, Mom, I will take care of myself. Goodbye, Mom and Dad."

With that, Selene smiled and waved to Brauchitsch and Katie.

...

"We can go," Selene said, not waiting for Kihara Gensei to react, and headed for the gangway.

Behind her, Kihara Gensei, watching Selene's figure, felt a bit excited for some reason, opening his always-squinted eyes, his left eye showing a metallic sheen. He muttered, "A spatial Esper, huh? The research value is small, a pity, but casting a wide net is never wrong..."

Since it was a private jet, there was no need for ticket checks, and there were no other passengers.

Selene sat on the sofa, watching the ground below grow smaller.

This was her first time on a private jet.

Compared to the economy and business class flights she had taken in her previous life, this plane had been gifted to her by Academy City as a welcoming gift.

The interior was luxurious, with a bed, a bathroom, a dining room, a conference room, and even a small cinema.

"It seems Academy City went to great lengths to recruit me."

The plane soon reached the designated flight path at the bottom of the stratosphere and headed for Japan. It would take about 8 hours to arrive.

...

Academy City, District 7, the Windowless Building.

In a dark space, a life support device made of reinforced glass, four meters in diameter and ten meters long, filled with nutrient fluid, held Aleister Crowley, who floated upside down in a green surgical gown.

"Selene von Habsburg, spatial abilities? I wonder what specific type. I hope her abilities will be useful for my plans."

...

District 23, International Airport.

Kihara Gensei impatiently spoke to Therestina Kihara Lifeline, "Even if that kid is a noble, there's no need for such a fuss. Sending a plane and having us wait here, such a big deal."

"The Chairman's orders, we just follow them. No need for so many questions."

Therestina rubbed her forehead, "However, it's said that Selene's abilities are extremely strong, and it's a rare spatial attribute. The Board of Directors just wants to show some respect."

Kihara Gensei looked disdainful, "A kid, how strong could she be? We'll see... Hmm? They're here."

A private jet with the double-headed eagle emblem on the vertical tail fin landed at the airport.

...

In the car heading to the Ability Testing Center.

Kihara Gensei's expression was ferocious, whether intentional or his natural look, "You don't seem scared at all."

"Scared of what? You?"

"Kid, you have quite the mouth. I wonder if you can back it up."

Selene, with her diamond-shaped red pupils, stared at Kihara Gensei and retorted without hesitation, "You'll find out."

With Kihara Gensei and Therestina leading the way, the group moved smoothly.

According to Selene's plan, she would directly reveal her nature as an Esper. After all, she used her abilities instinctively without the need for calculations, freely wielding them. The principles were unclear and couldn't be explained scientifically.

She would fully demonstrate her spatial abilities while temporarily hiding the characteristics of Honkai energy, revealing them gradually later. This way, she could secure a higher rating and more resources while keeping some cards close to her chest.

Arriving at the Ability Testing Center, a large cubic building came into view.

Perhaps the higher-ups had been notified in advance, as the testing began quickly. The first test was AIM diffusion field detection. The researchers called Selene to stand in a two-meter-high detection gate.

"This... AIM diffusion field is so chaotic." After a flurry of keyboard tapping, the researcher conducting the AIM diffusion field test sighed, "Sigh... She's an Esper."

Upon hearing this, the surrounding researchers also sighed in disappointment.

It was a well-known fact that Gemstone users had low research value because even the ability users themselves didn't know how their abilities were generated or specifically manifested. This left the researchers with no starting point.

But regret aside, after a moment of lamenting, they completed the registration and entry into the 'Library.' The researchers soon called Selene to begin the practical tests of her spatial abilities.

First, the researchers tested Selene's teleportation ability, including distance, weight, quantity, object state, and energy consumption.

The conclusion was that Selene's spatial abilities were the highest among all spatial ability users in Academy City!

There were only volume limitations, no restrictions on weight or quantity. She could teleport both living and non-living objects in both directions. The maximum diameter of a single portal, the longest straight-line teleportation distance, and the number of simultaneous portals far exceeded any previous spatial ability test results.

There was no pattern or useful information; everything depended on Selene's condition, fluctuating slightly.

"This! What an enviable ability, but it's a pity she's an Gemstone Esper."

"If only we could research such powerful spatial abilities, it would be a major breakthrough in the scientific community. But it's a pity she's an Gemstone Esper."

One sigh after another expressed the researchers' feelings. This was the nature of Espers.

A characteristic that made researchers gnash their teeth; they were helpless in front of Espers. No formulas, no principles, no starting point for research. All improvement depended on the user themselves.

"Auxiliary ability tests completed. Ability rating: Level 5 Esper."

Therestina marveled, "Just auxiliary abilities alone being rated Level 5 is already impressive. This unprecedented strategic support capability is truly enviable. It seems the Board of Directors has caught a big fish."

A researcher hesitated, "Shall we continue with the offensive ability tests?"

Selene smiled and replied, "Of course, why not?"

The subsequent tests further shattered the understanding of everyone present regarding superpowers.

The testers were completely stunned, and the testing center fell into a silent, breathless state.

Spatial Physics Simulation: The ability to simulate gravitational and repulsive forces within the control range, freely combining and manipulating them. (Essentially simulating "Almighty Push" and "Universal Pull.")

Spatial Object Acceleration: Using multiple spatial transfers to accelerate objects, achieving speeds up to several times the speed of sound.

Spatial Phasing: The ability to transfer oneself or surrounding objects back and forth between real space and a different space, achieving a "phasing mode" effect. (Similar to Obito's Kamui.)

Spatial Slicing: Selene can cut the dimension where the space exists, making her the bane of all spatial ability users. This manifests as slicing and tearing objects, with the cut surface being smooth as new. The deeper the color, the stronger the cutting ability.

Subspace Bands: An advanced form of spatial slicing, manifesting the ability as bands. The cutting ability increases significantly, allowing arbitrary splicing and forming different shapes.

Spatial Collapse, Time-Stasis Space...

"This can be considered the highest level of spatial abilities. It's truly unreasonable," Kihara Gensei felt a bit relieved. Fortunately, there was only a verbal conflict earlier; otherwise, he'd be in serious trouble.

After all, he wasn't stubborn; facing someone he clearly couldn't beat, backing down wasn't shameful.

As the tests neared completion, everyone present was numb.

When the gap between two people is small, there is motivation to catch up. But when the gap is insurmountable, one becomes indifferent, no longer caring.

A tester swallowed, his voice trembling. (With this ability, as long as Selene wants, touching her would result in either disability or death.)

"Disability rate: 100%."

"Mortality rate: 100%."

"Destructive power: Extremely high."

"Precision: Extremely high."

"Maximum control range: 2 kilometers in diameter."

"Research value: Low."

...

"Overall evaluation: The highest level spatial ability user discovered so far, Level 5."

"Miss Habsburg, would you prefer to use 'Spatial Manipulation' as your codename, or would you like to choose one yourself?" The test leader asked cautiously.

"Call it 'Will of Honkai,'" Selene replied meaningfully.

Therestina walked over with a smile, "Congratulations, you will become our first Level 5 Esper in Academy City."

Kihara Gensei, no longer arrogant, now showed politeness, "Miss Habsburg, which school would you like to attend? I'll make the arrangements."

Indeed, having power is great; it makes people speak to you politely.
