I Am Honkai

Chapter 6: Tokiwadai Middle School

Tokiwadai Middle School is located in the School Garden of Academy City's Seventh District. It is one of the most prestigious private aristocratic girls' schools in the world and one of the five famous schools in Academy City. It only has a junior high division and follows an elite policy, with about 200 students. The third branch of the Judgment committee is also established here.

Selene waved goodbye to Therestina and Kihara Gensei as the principal of Tokiwadai personally welcomed her. You might wonder why Selene is so polite to two villains like Therestina and Kihara Gensei. Partly due to etiquette, and partly because they have no conflicting interests. Kihara Gensei even apologized for his previous attitude on the way.

Furthermore, she might need them in the future, so there is no need to fall out with them.

As she entered the Tokiwadai campus, the principal thanked Selene for choosing Tokiwadai Middle School while introducing the school's overview.

Unlike Misaka Mikoto, Selene's dormitory was not located in the Student Dormitory of the Seventh District but was a single suite inside the "School Garden." The room number was 1A101.

The suite was over 500 square meters, extremely luxurious, and besides the basic bedroom, bathroom, and shower, it also had a study, gym, cinema, cloakroom, living room, and a private terrace garden that was 100 square meters in size, with an indoor swimming pool. The garden and other private areas were separated, with staff dedicated to their upkeep every day.

Despite all this, the principal was still worried that Selene might be dissatisfied, assuring her that if she had any complaints, the school would make changes immediately.

After completing her enrollment, Selene sat on the sofa in her dormitory living room, sighing and rubbing her forehead, "Oh, this is too much. It makes me feel embarrassed. Is this for school or for pampering?"

Selene underestimated the huge benefits brought by her identity as the first Level 5 Spatial Esper and her Habsburg surname.

First of all, spatial abilities are rare in any world. Academy City now only has about fifty spatial-type ability users, with only a dozen capable of moving multiple objects.

Secondly, her surname added to her status. In Japan's class-rigid society, one's birth class largely determines one's future.

...

Seventh District Center, the Windowless Building.

Kihara Gensei stood in front of the cylindrical life support tank, looking at the inverted image of Director General Aleister Crowley in front of him, speaking in a deep voice.

"The ability test report for Selene von Habsburg is out: Level 5 Spatial Manipulation. Her aptitude assessment suggests that even as an Esper, she has the potential to reach the legendary Level 6 Absolute Ability, and with a high probability."

The aptitude assessment is secret information held by the city's upper echelons: All those undergoing ability development actually have a fixed "aptitude," determining how far their abilities can reach. The idea that "abilities can evolve with effort" is a lie.

"Oh, such a high evaluation? Then her spatial ability isn't just ordinary reality shifting. She could possibly connect to imaginary space... No! She might have already connected to imaginary space!"

Seeing the rare emotional fluctuation from the Director General inside the life support tank, Kihara Gensei was greatly surprised and resolved never to provoke Selene in the future.

"The news that Selene von Habsburg is a Level 5 Spatial Manipulation Esper can be made public. Her resource supply should temporarily be set at 60 times that of Level 4."

Previously, since there were no Level 5 Espers, Academy City's subsidy amount was still under discussion without a fixed standard.

After Kihara Gensei left the building, Aleister began pondering how to win her over. If Selene's spatial control could master imaginary space, her growth limit could be very high, reaching the level of a Magic God wouldn't be difficult.

"Maybe I should meet her."

...

As the news of the first Level 5 was broadcast on radio and television, the entire Academy City began to surge with undercurrents.

In a corner of District 10, a thin figure with white hair, red eyes, wearing a black and white T-shirt, looked at the monitor with a gaze mixed with murder and madness, "Tch, Level 5, what's the upper echelon doing?! The application process is so slow! This newcomer actually snatched the first place! How annoying!"

District 15, in a high-end hotel.

A brown-haired teenager in a high-end purple suit sat on the sofa of a luxury suite, watching the news about Selene on TV, "Tch, it's just a bit faster."

District 2, in a talent factory.

A girl with medium-length brown hair, wearing a black tank top, weakly watched the TV showing Selene confidently stepping out of a car.

The TV host timely commented, "Level 5 Selene von Habsburg, with the 'Will of Honkai,' has enrolled in Tokiwadai Middle School. Now we are broadcasting the live scene."

The scene changed to show Selene entering the campus, surrounded by the Tokiwadai principal and others.

"This is the legendary Level 5? I really want to see it, but unfortunately..." Watching the scene of Selene being "cheered and surrounded," Dolly's eyes showed envy and longing.

Beside her, a girl with honey-colored long hair, a slender waist, long limbs, and delicate features comforted her, "It'll be okay, Dolly. There will be a chance."

...

With Selene's arrival, the once peaceful Academy City began to stir.

The next day, Selene put on the summer uniform issued by the school: a white short-sleeved shirt, sleeveless beige V-neck knitted vest with red lines parallel to the neckline near the chest, embroidered with the school emblem on the left breast. The lower part was a gray pleated skirt with brown uniform leather shoes.

"Hmm, I do look a bit like a student."

How to put it, Tokiwadai Middle School truly deserves to be a top school's ace. The knowledge imparted is completely different from her previous schools. Besides basic language studies, other courses like science, home economics, cooking, music, and etiquette seem to be at the college level.

It made her scalp tingle, "Is this what junior high school students are supposed to learn? This is so hard."

But thinking of the opposite examples, Selene decided to study hard. She couldn't end up like Sirin, who, despite being six-core driven, couldn't fully utilize her abilities due to a lack of knowledge.

Even if I expand, I want it to be a real expansion.

...

Later, Selene arrived at the lecture location, and soon the classroom was full.

After the class bell rang, although everyone was curious about who this Level 5 was, their good manners kept them silent as they waited.

Tap tap tap...

The sound of high heels echoed in the hallway, and a middle-aged woman in a black uniform walked in.

Without any introduction, she jumped straight to the point.

"Turn to page 40 in the textbook."

"Today we learn about Newton's Laws of Motion..."

...

After school in the afternoon, Selene waved goodbye to her classmates, whom she had just met today.

She declined various club invitations, and on her way back to the dormitory, Selene suddenly remembered she hadn't properly explored Academy City yet. Acting immediately, Selene changed direction and walked out of the School Garden.

Walking along the roadside in the Seventh District, with cleaning and security robots everywhere, feeling the vibrant atmosphere around her, Selene felt her mood lift.

Suddenly, Selene thought of a joke from her previous life, "Academy City has a total population of 2.3 million, 80% are students, and the rest are thugs and other personnel."

Leaning on the railing of an overpass, "Huh, why hasn't any thug come to me yet? I'm all alone." Selene thought maliciously.

But then again, Academy City had just announced her as a Level 5, and she was highly recognizable. If there were still clueless thugs coming for her, they must be new to the area.

Feeling a bit bored without the initial event every transmigrator experiences, Selene randomly found a café with a good view, "Time for coffee and some scenery watching."

This morning, the scholarship from Academy City had been credited, with a balance reaching nine figures. Even though it was in yen, it was enough for her expenses.

As night fell and the sky gradually darkened, looking down from the café, the city's lights began to replace the sun, illuminating the urban sky, neon lights flashing everywhere.

Selene checked the time, stood up and stretched, straightening her slightly wrinkled clothes.

"Time to go back." Selene paid the bill, left the café, and teleported directly back to the school gate.

Since she wasn't staying in the student dormitory, she had no chance to meet the legendary dorm supervisor known for taking down Level 4 with her bare hands and scaring Level 5 into tears.

"Oh well, let's not think about it, time to sleep."

Thus ended Selene's first day of studying at Tokiwadai.
