I am Thor

Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Parting Ways

Zemo's composure, carefully maintained throughout his plan, finally cracked. The brilliant scheme he had painstakingly designed—the proverbial ace up his sleeve—had been rendered useless. Instead of turning on each other, Tony, Steve, and Bucky had calmly discussed and resolved their differences, leaving Zemo standing as the sole villain.

From the shadows, T'Challa emerged, his movements deliberate and silent. "I almost killed the wrong man," he said, his voice low but firm. "Is this what you wanted, Zemo? To see them destroy each other? You won't get what you hoped for."

Zemo's plan had hinged on one critical assumption: Tony Stark would lose control. Without that, Bucky's role as a victim of HYDRA's programming would clear him of guilt, and the Avengers would only grow stronger. With this realization, Zemo's anger began to fade, replaced by an empty resignation.

Taking a deep breath, he began to speak. "My father lived out of town, far from the city. I thought it would be safe. My son was so excited to see Iron Man through the car window. I told my wife not to worry—they were fighting in the city. Nothing would happen to us."

His voice trembled as he continued, "But after the dust settled, it took me two days to find their bodies. My father, even as ash, was clutching my wife and son. And the Avengers? They just… went home. They didn't look back."

Zemo's tone hardened, bitterness seeping into his words. "They gave me compensation. Money. But tell me, what price covers the lives of my family? I couldn't take revenge—not directly. So I found another way: to make them tear themselves apart."

T'Challa stood silent, absorbing Zemo's confession. After a moment, he said softly, "Revenge has already consumed you. I will not let it consume me."

Zemo's hand drifted toward a hidden pocket, revealing a small, unassuming handgun. But before he could act, T'Challa grabbed his wrist with firm resolve. "The living must face judgment," he said coldly. "You won't escape this."

Inside the Hydra base, Steve, Tony, and Bucky faced the reality of their situation. Steve nodded solemnly. "T'Challa's right. The Council isn't interested in justice—they want to use us as weapons. This isn't about accountability; it's about control."

Tony sighed, rubbing his temples. "Yeah, well, that's not news. The real question is, what's next?"

Bucky spoke up, his voice tinged with weariness. "If I can't trust my mind, I'm a danger to everyone. I think it's best if I go back under. Find a place to freeze me again."

Before Steve could protest, T'Challa stepped forward. "Come to Wakanda," he offered. "We have advanced technology that may help. I've hunted you for long enough. Let me help make it right."

Bucky hesitated but nodded. "Thank you."

As the group prepared to part ways, Steve turned to Tony and handed him a phone. "If you ever need us—if you ever need me—I'll be there."

Tony accepted the phone with a faint smile. "Don't make me regret this, Cap."

Outside the base, Zemo was being escorted by T'Challa when he stopped suddenly, tilting his head. He listened carefully, expecting sounds of chaos and fighting. Instead, there was only silence punctuated by occasional conversation.

His shoulders slumped in defeat. "That's it? No fighting? No shouting? Tony Stark forgives patricide with a handshake? What kind of absurd script is this?"

T'Challa tightened his grip on Zemo's arm. "You've failed, Zemo. They didn't break—they grew stronger. You underestimated them."

Zemo groaned in frustration as T'Challa marched him away.

As Tony left the base, he took a deep breath and activated Friday's interface. "Friday, what's happening in the States?"

"Mr. Stark," Friday replied hesitantly, "you may want to see this for yourself."

Several news articles appeared on his HUD, their headlines bold and sensational:

"Shocking Scandal: Council Approved Two Nuclear Strikes on New York!"

"The California Tsunami: San Diego Naval Base Destroyed!"

"Experts Blame Council's Sea-Launched Nuclear Test for Catastrophic Tsunami!"

Tony stared at the reports, his jaw dropping. "Friday," he said slowly, "are you absolutely sure today isn't April Fool's Day?"

Friday was silent for a moment. "I'm afraid not, sir."

Tony exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "This is insane. If my tower gets targeted next, I swear—"

"Unlikely, sir," Friday interrupted. "Most New Yorkers consider you a savior for preventing the nuclear strike during the Battle of New York. Stark Tower has been unofficially dubbed a shrine. Oh, and the late Nick Fury's cemetery is covered in flowers."

Tony blinked. "Fury's what now?"

"Cemetery, sir."

Tony shook his head in disbelief. "Well, I guess that's… something. Still, this is too coordinated. All of this breaking at once? It's not random. Someone's pulling the strings."

A voice echoed in his mind—Banner's words from days earlier. "Thor called and told me you've got the wrong guy. The real murderer is that fake doctor. He's luring the Captain in, and they'll need your help."

Tony clenched his fists, muttering under his breath. "You planned this, didn't you, Thor? You sent us away on purpose."
