I Became A Flashing Genius At The Magic Academy

Chapter 326: Inner Self (5)

<template id="B:0"></template>

The first snow had fallen.

It was early December, just another ordinary day.

Unusually late this year, the first snowfall had the cadets of Stella bursting with excitement. They dashed around the campus, building snowmen and engaging in snowball fights like carefree children.

‘Be it a prestigious academy or not, kids will always be kids.’

Among the lively crowd of cadets, a worn-out-looking man, Aryumon Brushun, emerged. The air felt exceptionally crisp, as campus rules prohibited smoking.

‘Must be nice to be young.’

Though his appearance suggested a man in his mid-to-late twenties, Aryumon was actually a 150-year-old, Class 9 Grand Mage with immense power.

"Chairman, you’re here. We’ll escort you."

Despite sneaking past Stella’s front gate as a prank, it took less than ten minutes for knights to find him.

He had hoped to surprise someone, but their lack of reaction suggested that Elthman had forewarned them about his antics.

“So boring.”

Even Aryumon’s unkempt appearance didn’t faze the knights. Most mages were aware that he was battling a debilitating illness, which had taken a visible toll on him.

Walking with the knights, Aryumon gazed at the snowy sky.

Even after living so long, the first snow always felt new to him.

Perhaps it was because he often wondered if he’d live to see the first snow of the next year.

‘The day I first learned magic, it snowed like this too.’

In Aryumon’s youth, there were no magic academies. He had been forced to shadow temperamental mages, learning by sheer observation.

It was likely the same for Elthman Elwin, the principal of this academy. To think that someone who endured such a past went on to establish a magic academy and usher in the Grand Magic Era—Aryumon couldn’t help but respect him.

Though they were both Class 9 mages, Aryumon recognized that his own contributions could never compare to Elthman’s, who had revolutionized the field of magic and changed humanity’s future.

As Aryumon followed the knights, he eventually arrived at the Stella General Hospital.

What had once been a humble infirmary for injured students had transformed into a world-renowned hospital, thanks to the school nurse, an unexpectedly gifted mage who had discovered her exceptional talents.

Even now, it was said to be bustling with patients from outside the academy.

Before entering, Aryumon glanced at the basket of golden apples he was carrying. Renowned as a legendary fruit with the rumored ability to cure any illness, they were, in truth, simply extraordinarily delicious and rare.

Still, they made for the perfect gift to cheer up a patient.

"This is as far as we’ll escort you."

"All right. Thank you for your trouble."

After the knights left, a nervous nurse peeked her head out from behind.

"Nurse Raymie? Lead the way, please.”

"Ah... Yes!"

"Where is Baek Yu-Seol?"

"You’ll need to head to the top floor..."

"Hah, quite the VIP, isn’t he? Wasn’t this the room Elthman had prepared for himself in case he ever got injured?"

"The principal has never used it even once..."

"Better for someone to use it than for it to gather dust."

With hesitant steps, Raymie led Aryumon through the hospital corridors.

‘Ugh, the Chairman of the Mage Association himself…’

Who in the magical world didn’t know of him?

Whenever any significant incident occurred in society, it inevitably reached his ears, and his influence was sure to play a role in resolving it.

Aryumon Brushun was the man who had captured countless magical criminals and restored order during the chaotic early years of the Grand Magic Era. His efforts laid the foundation for the stable, rule-bound magical society of today.

His face was so familiar from front-page headlines that it would be difficult not to recognize him.

"H-here we are..."

Raymie finally stopped in front of Baek Yu-Seol’s room.

Aryumon motioned with his chin for her to open the door. Startled by his casual gesture, Raymie hesitated briefly before reaching for the doorknob.

"Wait."

"Y-yes?"

"Aren’t you going to knock?"

"Oh, right!"

Flustered by her oversight, Raymie quickly knocked, and a voice from inside called out for them to enter.

With great care, she pushed the door open and stepped inside Baek Yu-Seol’s hospital room.

"Well, this is... Quite something."

"Huh?"

The sight that greeted her left Raymie completely stunned.

In the room were none other than:

Stella Academy’s principal, Elthman Elwin.

The ruler of all fairies and elves, Florin.

And…

Upon seeing the people in vivid and colorful forms, Raymie fainted on the spot.

"Oh dear."

Catching her before she hit the floor, Aryumon muttered in an exasperated tone.

"This is far too extravagant for a mere high schooler’s hospital visit."

"You’re here? Perfect timing. We were just about to discuss something important," Elthman said with a playful grin.

"Elthman, will you ever stop speaking like a child?" Aryumon replied with a scowl.

"Why should I? It makes me feel younger, and I like it."

Though Aryumon had heard rumors about the Twelve Divine Moons being involved with Baek Yu-Seol, seeing it with his own eyes was still astonishing.

Even as a Class mage 9, Aryumon felt his heart racing at their presence. What chance did an ordinary nurse like Raymie have?

Looking toward a group of girls in the room, Aryumon thought, ‘They must be Baek Yu-Seol’s friends.’

He recognized their names and faces from the Aslan Seminar, an elite gathering of the most brilliant talents.

Setting down the basket of golden apples he had brought, Aryumon glanced at the mountain of gifts piled beside Baek Yu-Seol’s bed and couldn’t help but click his tongue in disbelief.

The current visitors were impressive enough, but the gifts in the room were even more remarkable.

There was a bouquet from Hae Seong-Wol, the Master of the Full Moon Tower, and a sculpture crafted by Halsecoden, the infamous ‘Golden Alchemist’ known for his eccentric and capricious behavior.

A handwritten letter from Alterisha, recently celebrated as the greatest inventor and a beacon of hope for teenagers, was also among the items.

There was even a gift box sent by Melian, the president of Starcloud, the world’s most prestigious trade guild, and a ceremonial sword from Arein, the Commander of the Stella Magic Knights.

‘… Why would someone gift a ceremonial sword?’ Aryumon shook his head in disbelief and muttered, "I feel like the most insignificant one here."*

"What matters is the thought behind it, don’t you think?"

— Haha, exactly! It’s the thought that counts.

A deep voice suddenly interrupted the exchange between Elthman and Aryumon. A large, blue-skinned man stepped forward and extended his hand toward Aryumon.

— A man who has reached a great level with the limits of the human body. I respect you.

"You flatter me. My name is Aryumon Brushun."

— I’ll remember that name.

Blue Winter Moon’s hand was icy cold, so much so that ordinary magical power wouldn’t have been enough to endure it.

‘… Or was it mental strength instead?’

Depending on one’s mental strength, the cold could feel freezing or warm. It was a mysterious sensation. Aryumon wondered if this was the Twelve Divine Moons’ power at work.

"Everyone here is one of the Twelve Divine Moons. They’ve come because of Baek Yu-Seol’s critical condition."

"It’s an honor to meet you all."

Aryumon greeted each figure politely, but his expression hardened when he finally faced one particular man.

With a gentle demeanor and an entirely brown appearance, the man was none other than Dusk Soil Moon!

Aryumon knew him as the Twelve Divine Moon that guarded Chelven, the Dark Mage—a lifelong nemesis pursued by Aryumon.

— Ah… Don’t look at me like that. Chelven isn’t as bad as you think...

"Because of you, countless lives have been lost."

Aryumon knew that confronting a member of the Twelve Divine Moons here and now would only result in his defeat, but he couldn’t simply let it go.

"Hey, hey, Aryumon. Chairman, please wait a moment.”

Elthman quickly stepped in, trying to defuse the tension.

But Aryumon shook his head and raised a hand to stop him.

"… I almost made a fool of myself in a room where a patient lies. Please forgive my rudeness."

— No, Aryumon. I agree with you. Dusk Soil Moon is far too immature and irresponsible.

— Tsk, tsk. That brat. How many disasters has he caused by ignoring the warnings not to meddle in the mortal world?

— Dusk Soil Moon, don’t be disheartened. Pain is a stepping stone to growth.

— Damn it... What do you all even know...?

Feeling dejected, Dusk Soil Moon sulked and retreated back to his corner. Watching this, Florin quietly bloomed a flower and handed it to him.

Aryumon shifted his gaze away from Dusk Soil Moon and approached Baek Yu-Seol, who remained unconscious.

Beside him sat Eisel, a girl with sky-blue hair. She tensed up as Aryumon drew closer.

"A child of the Grand Duchy of Morph. You have nothing to fear."

"... Yes."

"It’s been over two weeks since this happened, hasn’t it?"

Eisel nodded silently, and Aryumon’s expression darkened.

"We must wake him up somehow."

Elthman, who had approached as well, added.

"This boy will change all of our destinies. He cannot die here."

"That’s a bold way to express concern for a patient."

"It’s for all of us."

"For all of us..."

Aryumon struggled to comprehend what Elthman meant.

‘Does this situation even make sense?’

He was just a 17-year-old boy.

And he was a commoner, not a noble.

An irregular who, despite being unable to use magic, had somehow entered Stella Academy.

When he first appeared in the magical world earlier this year, he was a penniless, connectionless boy of no significance.

And yet, within just a year, his presence in Aether World had grown so monumental that even Aryumon couldn’t grasp its full impact.

How could the fall of a single boy draw not one, but four of the Twelve Divine Moons to his bedside?

Aryumon turned his gaze slowly toward the Twelve Divine Moons, their expressions mirroring the same unease he felt.

"Can you tell me?" he asked, "what exactly is happening to this world?"

After a brief moment of contemplation, Silver Autumn Moon stroked his beard and finally spoke.

— In ten years, the world will end.

"... What are you talking about?"

Such a sudden declaration left even Aryumon momentarily speechless.

But the one who had spoken was no ordinary figure… it was one of the Twelve Divine Moons.

And not just any of them—Silver Autumn Moon, a being who transcended time itself. Someone like that wouldn’t make such claims lightly.

As Aryumon’s expression turned bewildered, Blue Winter Moon continued the explanation.

— No. That’s what was supposed to happen.

"‘Supposed to happen’... Does that mean the destruction has been delayed?"

Aryumon asked, his voice tinged with hope. But the Twelve Divine Moons shook their heads in unison.

— It almost was, thanks to that boy.

—... Just because we are the Twelve Divine Moons doesn’t mean we are always benevolent to the world.

— Fawn Prevernal Moon.

The name uttered by Silver Autumn Moon sent a jolt through Aryumon’s mind.

— That one has begun twisting the fragments of the story, forcibly altering the fate of the world.

"Twisting... the story?"

— Exactly. Warping the reversed fate, forcibly bending it once again.

"And... What happens as a result?"

— I already told you.

The silver-haired old man lowered his gaze, his voice tinged with helplessness.

— Destruction is approaching—rapidly. And, unfortunately, we cannot resist it.

After a brief silence, he added one final statement.

— Except for that boy.

That was the reason why so many of the Twelve Divine Moons had gathered in this place.

"This is unbelievable..."

Aryumon had anticipated troubling news, but what he heard was far beyond anything he could have imagined. His mind reeled, struggling to process the staggering revelation.
