I Became A Flashing Genius At The Magic Academy

Chapter 327: Winter Break (1)

<template id="B:0"></template>

In ten years, the world will end.

The startling declaration from Silver Autumn Moon shocked not only Aryumon but also the other Twelve Divine Moons.

— Hold on... Silver Autumn Moon, your words constitute 'revealing the heavenly secret.' This is dangerous.

This world operated under an enigmatic set of rules.

The future was predetermined, and if someone aware of this fate revealed it, they risked being erased entirely for disclosing a heavenly secret.

"Revealing the heavenly secret..."

Eisel had experienced something similar before.

When she shared knowledge from the Star Archive with Elthman Elwin, he collapsed, coughing up blood.

Perhaps due to that unsettling incident, Elthman’s face darkened for a brief moment. Thankfully, no one was coughing up blood this time.

— Don’t worry. Do you think I’d say something reckless without considering the consequences?

—... That’s true. You are the wisest among us, after all.

— Tch, wisest? I just see and hear more than the rest of you.

Silver Autumn Moon glanced at the unconscious Baek Yu-Seol before continuing.

— There was a time when I entirely discarded my ability to see the future. I resented this power, which condemned me to witness the world's end without any means to prevent it.

"...I see."

Aryumon found it hard to sympathize with those words. Even as a Class 9 mage, he couldn't deny his curiosity about the future.

But the Twelve Divine Moons were fundamentally different from humans. Having lived as exceptional beings for over a millennium, they seemed to lack something intrinsic to living creatures. Their emotions did not mirror those of humans.

— Yes. In this world, the future—or more precisely, fate—was fixed.

— But... It seems that boy saw something.

— Yes. And I came to realize that the future can change.

Silver Autumn Moon gazed slowly around the room as he continued.

— However... What kind of future will it change into?

It was a question no one had considered before. Could the future altered by Baek Yu-Seol truly be better than the present?

"Are you blaming Baek Seol for this?"

Elthman’s expression hardened as he asked.

Though the end of the world had been hastened to less than ten years, Elthman refused to believe it was Baek Yu-Seol’s fault.

— No. That’s not the case. The acceleration of the world’s destruction is entirely Fawn Prevernal Moon’s fault. On the contrary, Baek Yu-Seol has been continuously delaying it.

"Do you have any idea what Fawn Prevernal Moon is trying to achieve? Previously, when the Twelve Divine Moons attempted to seal away Dusk Soil Moon to stop his awakening, Fawn Prevernal Moon suddenly appeared and interfered. He must have a purpose."

— Well...

Fawn Prevernal Moon sought to restore the fate that Baek Yu-Seol had altered, returning it to its original course.

If Baek Yu-Seol’s purpose could be understood, wouldn’t Fawn Prevernal Moon’s objective also become clear?

"Haven’t you heard anything from him?"

Aryumon turned to Eisel, Hong Bi-Yeon, and Flame, but all three shook their heads.

"Baek Yu-Seol never speaks of his purpose..."

"What a conundrum."

— Or perhaps he ‘cannot’ speak of it. He may also be bound by the constraints of revealing the heavenly secret.

"I have a question, though."

With a hesitant expression, Aryumon finally spoke.

"If the world is destined to end in ten years... What is the reason for its destruction?"

At that, not only the Twelve Divine Moons, but also the three girls, fell silent.

During the summer break, through the Star Archive, the girls had glimpsed Baek Yu-Seol’s past and gained insight into how the world might meet its end.

A colossal dragon, its skin darker than the void itself, enveloped in an ominous black aura.

In the vision, Baek Yu-Seol, who was clad in silver armor, was fighting the beast alone.

— Thirteenth Onyx Moon.

A name both unfamiliar and strangely familiar, yet utterly alien.

"Was there ever a Thirteenth Moon among the Divine Moons?"

— No. Such a thing doesn’t exist in this world. However, for some reason, it manifests in the form of a black dragon that burns the world to ashes.

"That’s... impossible."

— The civilizations humanity has built will all collapse. The strongest weapons and the most powerful magic—none of it will work against that creature.

"Magic doesn’t work? Are you saying such a being exists? Then where is it hiding?"

Even Silver Autumn Moon couldn’t answer that question. It wasn’t due to the constraints of revealing a heavenly secret—he simply didn’t know.

— Silver Autumn Moon, there’s no way we would just stand by and watch the world be destroyed. Where are we, and what are we doing when this happens?

— I don’t know.

— How can that be? Aren’t you supposed to see all possible outcomes?

— I can’t see every outcome. At best, I can glimpse the overarching framework. But on the day the world ends, we weren’t there.

— Why…?

Pink Spring Moon opened her mouth in disbelief, unable to grasp the situation. Meanwhile, Dusk Soil Moon, who had been silently observing from the corner, spoke indifferently.

— … Perhaps we were destroyed long before the world’s end.

— Dusk Soil Moon! Stop saying such negative things!

— Sorry. But isn’t that the only plausible explanation? Whether it’s Blue Winter Moon or Golden Solstice Moon, they wouldn’t just sit idly by when humanity faces annihilation.

Some of the Twelve Divine Moons undoubtedly carried enough justice and conviction to fight against the black dragon for humanity’s sake. That would be the natural course of action.

But if that were true, why was there no trace of the Twelve Divine Moons in the future?

— Dusk Soil Moon!

Pink Spring Moon scolded him for his continued pessimism, but Silver Autumn Moon raised a hand to stop her.

— Hmm, no. It’s a possibility.

— W-what? Even you, Silver Autumn Moon...?

— Think about it. Why are we all gathered here now?

— Because of Baek Yu-Seol... Wait.

Pink Spring Moon stopped mid-sentence, her eyes widening as realization dawned. She quickly scanned the room.

Four members of the Twelve Divine Moons, entities who should never meet by fate, were gathered in one place. Even though their true forms couldn’t be present, the fact that their spirits were together was extraordinary.

— Exactly. Baek Yu-Seol brought us here.

— Hah. Are you saying Baek Yu-Seol’s purpose is to gather us all together?

— It’s possible. No one in history has ever received blessings from more than one of the Twelve Divine Moons.

— That’s true. A body can’t handle more than one blessing...

— Baek Yu-Seol must be the first to have received blessings from four.

Florin, who had been quietly listening, tilted her head as if something was puzzling her.

"But... Doesn’t Fawn Prevernal Moon’s purpose seem similar?"

— Hmm? What do you mean?

— Previously, when I tried to seal Dusk Soil Moon with Elthman, Fawn Prevernal Moon came to stop us. If Baek Yu-Seol’s goal is to gather the Twelve Divine Moons, shouldn’t we help seal them instead? So that he cannot meet the Twelve Divine Moons.

—...That’s true.

— Then, is this theory off the mark? Haha, Silver Autumn Moon, it seems even your thoughts can miss the target sometimes.

— I don’t claim to know everything.

“Phew, damn it. We can’t figure anything out.”

At that moment, Eisel, who had remained silent until now, cautiously raised her hand. She looked like a nervous student trying to answer a question in class, which made Elthman chuckle.

“Cadet Eisel? Go ahead.”

“Well, um, I was just thinking... Could it be that the Fawn Prevernal Moon is also trying to gather the Twelve Divine Moons, just like Baek Yu-Seol?”

“And why do you think that?”

“Well, you know, I took Divine Moon Studies at school with Baek Yu-Seol… Um, that’s not really important. But I heard a legend like that.”

When all Twelve Divine Moons gather, something very special happens.

“Isn’t that right…?”

Eisel spoke hesitantly, like a squirrel gauging reactions. Given the weight of the people present, it was only natural to be cautious with her words.

“Now that you mention it, that makes sense. What do the Twelve Divine Moons think about this?”

— That is…

The Twelve Divine Moons hesitated.

It wasn’t entirely baseless as a legend.

However...

— We don’t know either.

Silver Autumn Moon shook his head.

— Long ago, after the Progenitor Mage created us, he scattered us across the world and imposed restrictions on us. We’ve lived separated all our lives without understanding why.

— Yes, it’s just… fate, I guess. We’ve lived like this for so long, thinking this was meant to be. That idea has lingered in our minds, and we lived this way without questioning it.

Their words brought a specific term to mind, but no one dared to say it aloud.

“Brainwashing.”

“Cadet F-Flame!”

“Wait, Miss Flame. Please don’t use such sensitive terms so carelessly…”

“Why not? It feels right, doesn’t it?”

Flame’s bombshell statement, which could potentially hurt the pride of the Twelve Divine Moons, left everyone pale-faced. However, contrary to their concerns, the Twelve Divine Moons only bowed their heads, seemingly unfazed.

— That’s true. It’s a reasonable assumption. After all, beings like us wouldn’t have been released into the world without some form of restriction.

— So, there’s a real possibility... that we’ve been living under some kind of brainwashing this entire time.

“Well… It’s a relief you’re not offended. In that case, it’s confirmed. For some reason, the Progenitor Mage placed restrictions so that the Twelve Divine Moons couldn’t meet each other.”

And perhaps…

— Baek Yu-Seol and Fawn Prevernal Moon… They know what happens when we’re all gathered.

So, they must be running around to gather the Twelve Divine Moons first.

The Fawn Prevernal Moon was constrained by a significant limitation. He couldn’t interfere with society recklessly—so he quietly operated within the boundaries of the story. On the other hand, Baek Yu-Seol stood at the center of the narrative and directly altered the flow of fate.

— Then… does that mean our being here together might pose some kind of danger?

— Yes. The advancement of destruction right after Baek Yu-Seol collapsed might have been due to the same reason. While he tried to gather us to prevent destruction, it might have also given Fawn Prevernal Moon an opportunity to use us.

— We're not fools. We won't fall for the schemes of that insufferable brat.

— … I truly hope so.

With a single remark from Silver Autumn Moon, everyone fell silent.

Would the results of Baek Yu-Seol’s efforts truly lead in the right direction?

… For that to happen—

"I hope Baek Yu-Seol wakes up as soon as possible…"

He had to wake up.

But since that day, Baek Yu-Seol showed no sign of waking up for a long time.

Days passed, then four days, a week, and eventually, a month.

On New Year’s Day, January 1st, as the first snow of the year fell. At the very moment when the nurse caring for Baek Yu-Seol briefly left his room, his body began to rise slowly into the air, surrounded by a faint green light.

Saaah...

An overwhelming life force emanated from him. Had a doctor witnessed the scene, they might have mistaken it for the moment life itself was being created.

Flutter—!

“Huh?”

Hearing a noise from the hospital room, the nurse hurried back, only to find Baek Yu-Seol lying limply back on the bed. She tilted her head in confusion.

"Nothing happened? What was that sound just now..."

Noticing that his blanket was slightly disheveled, the nurse quietly tidied it up. Assuming the partially open window was the cause, she closed it tightly for ventilation and left the room.

Twitch!

Baek Yu-Seol’s eyebrows quivered faintly, but, unfortunately, no one was there to see it.
