Chapter 53: Go Find the Father-in-Law
Chapter 53: Go Find the Father-in-Law
About an hour after Aierjisi and Yake had left, Gaia finally woke up from his slumber.
“Gaia? You’re awake! That’s fantastic! I was so worried about you, I thought I was going to die from anxiety!”
Seeing Gaia awake, Mios excitedly grabbed his left hand, tears of joy brimming at the corners of his eyes.
“Sorry for the trouble, Mios. How long was I out?”
The first thing Gaia wanted to know was how long he had been asleep. During his deep slumber, Ouxs must have been handling royal affairs. He hoped he hadn’t caused too much trouble.
“Not too long—about a day and a night.”
“About 36 hours, huh? So it wasn’t too long after all.”
Now that he knew his nap had lasted only around 36 hours, Gaia immediately tried to sit up. 36 hours was enough time for Ouxs to take care of things; he needed to hurry back and relieve him!
“No, you can’t, Gaia! You just woke up! You need to rest a bit longer before you can get up.”
Seeing Gaia attempt to get out of bed, Mios forcefully pushed him back down. Seriously, Gaia needed to have some limits—he had just awakened and needed time to recover, not jump out of bed like a hyperactive kid.
“But… Ouxs must still be handling things for me. I need to get back quickly!”
“Don’t worry! Ouxs is managing everything just fine. He even told me to stop you from rushing back to work the moment you woke up! You never care about your own body, you reckless fool!”
Mios firmly kept Gaia pinned on the bed, trying to prevent any further movement.
“Ah? Ouxs saw that coming?”
“Of course! Ouxs is the Sage of the Royal Palace. He knows you’d want to jump right back into work the moment you woke up! So just rest easy; we’ll take care of the palace.”
“Then I suppose I’ll rest a bit. But I’m feeling a bit hungry. Mios, could you bring me some food?”
Gaia rubbed his stomach; after sleeping for 36 hours, he hadn’t eaten a thing and was quite famished.
“Food, huh? No problem! Just wait a moment; I’ll grab some for you!”
Mios bounced out of the room to fetch the food. Once he left, Gaia pulled out his communicator and dialed Ouxs.
“Lord Gaia, you’re awake! How are you feeling? No discomfort, right?”
As soon as the connection went through, Ouxs showered him with concern, making Gaia feel a tad embarrassed.
“Don’t worry; I’m fine! After all, I am a king. I’m quite confident in my physical condition. But more importantly, I have something to discuss with you.”
“What is it? Go ahead.”
If this was a matter he wanted to discuss with the Sage, it must be very important. Ouxs furrowed his brow and listened intently.
“I want you to take me up the mountain to see the Ice Dragon King.”
“See the Ice Dragon King at this time? Lord Gaia, what are you planning?”
Ouxs nearly choked at the thought of Gaia wanting to visit the Ice Dragon King now. After all, Ailin had just been captured, and the Ice Dragon King was unaware of it; going to see him now would be like asking for trouble!
“Of course, I’m asking for help! To rescue Ailin, I believe the Ice Dragon Clan’s power is necessary.”
“No way! I can’t support this plan; it’s way too risky! If the Ice Dragon King finds out his daughter’s been captured, he might take it out on you!”
Ouxs immediately opposed Gaia’s proposal. It was madness—informing the Ice Dragon King that his daughter was captured was practically saying, “I’m tired of living; come kill me!”
“I know it’s risky, but even a little extra chance to rescue Ailin is worth it. I believe the help of the Ice Dragon Clan is essential.”
“But what if they refuse to help? The Ice Dragon King is extremely dangerous! You know how terrifying he can be when he’s enraged!”
“I understand. But this is a punishment I must accept. If the Ice Dragon King wants to penalize me for this, I will accept it.”
Gaia said this with a calm expression, as though being granted death by the Ice Dragon King wouldn’t affect him at all.
“Lord Gaia… are you serious about this?”
Ouxs adjusted his glasses, wanting to confirm Gaia’s determination. If Gaia was resolute, then as the Sage, he wouldn’t stop him. His only role would be to ensure that he survived the encounter with the Ice Dragon King.
“Absolutely serious! So if I don’t return, I’ll leave the palace affairs to you, Ouxs.”
“Got it. Since you’re set on this, I’ll take you to see the Ice Dragon King. But there’s one thing I need to tell you.”
“What is it?”
“I’m absolutely not going to let you die at the hands of the Ice Dragon King. I won’t hand this country over to anyone else; you’re the only one who can manage it. So don’t even think about who would take over the palace if you don’t come back—it’s not going to happen. Understood?”
Ouxs looked at Gaia seriously. He was determined not to let Gaia die or pass the kingdom to anyone else. The only person he genuinely respected in this world was Gaia—nothing more.
“Thank you, Ouxs…”
Gaia found himself at a loss for words to express his gratitude to his good friend, only managing to say a simple thank you.
“Alright, get some rest and recover. I’ll handle things here at the palace, so don’t worry. Once you’re better, I’ll take you to see the Ice Dragon King.”
“Okay. I’ll make sure to recover well. Thanks for your concern. Once I’m better, I’ll come find you personally.”
“Sounds good! I’ll be waiting here for your grand arrival.”
