Chapter 28
Chapter 28. Summon's Shared Equipment
- With 【Acceleration】, your body became much more agile.
- Your reaction speed increased by 10%.
'Indeed... it's quite something. Although the-nimbleness doesn't translate into exact figures, I feel like my skeletal body is becoming more human-like. At this level...'
Experiencing Lan's talkative abilities firsthand, I nodded, then looked at the approaching big boar herd, snorting softly.
'Two adult ones, four nearly grown young ones. This is going to be tough.'
...
The murmur of Yeon-hee's incantation could be heard from the back once again, as Lime was summoned, wrapping around her arm.
Taking that as the signal for the battle to begin, the big boars let out screams.
Kwiiikㅡ!!
Kwiik!!
Perhaps they thought they had the upper hand, for they immediately activated 【Reckless Charge】 and began attacking us.
【Acid Spray】
As I forcefully swung my head from left to right, spraying the acidic liquid, the charging monsters hesitated, and I took the opportunity to rush at the young ones first.
【Reckless Charge】
Leaping at the young ones, the two adult big boars scarily turned and pursued me.
'You're too late, youngsters!'
However, my movements, much faster than usual, collided precisely with the center of the young ones who were merely glancing around clumsily.
Pupupukㅡ!!
Two young ones were knocked several meters by my shoulder, and swinging my club at full speed, I crushed the head of one of the monsters.
Kuiiit!!
Meanwhile, Yeon-hee moved quickly with her more active-than-usual body, rapidly firing arrows.
However, her accuracy suffered due to shooting while moving, and no big boars were hit by stray arrows.
Nonetheless, what made Yeon-hee's attacks effective was the way she was impeding the monsters' momentum, which relied entirely on their charging attacks.
"I feel like I've leveled up three or four stages in a flash. We brought in an incredible ally..."
Previously, I had to dodge their charges by throwing myself at the right moment, but now I could casually maneuver to deliver targeted strikes at their weak points.
Pak! Papak-!
'With better movement, dealing damage has also become easier.'
"Ah-!!"
Yet, avoiding the big boar's charges and fighting was not an easy task. Especially for Yeon-hee, who had to attack from a distance, it must have been nerve-wracking.
Eventually, after disrupting the formation of the monsters, I returned to Yeon-hee in stealth mode.
Then, moving to the side of a big boar with several arrows already sticking out of its body, I charged again.
Puukㅡ!!
Kuiik!!
The short scream sounded unusual, as if the arrows were driven deeper. It rolled over several times, struggling to get up easily.
"I've subdued one..."
"Lime! Move to Ilwol!"
Yeon-hee commanded as the slime she had thrown shifted to my right arm, volunteering as a shield, while Lan continued to cast 【Acceleration】 from above my head.
Tatatak-!
Therefore, there was no reason to stand idle, waiting for an incoming attack.
'I'm going to draw all the aggro.'
With exaggerated movements, I charged towards the center of their line, and as expected, they positioned themselves defensively, slightly retreating their hindquarters.
However, running directly into their giant sharp horns was akin to committing suicide, so upon reaching a certain distance, I used acid spray and quickly moved to the side.
Repeating this process as the gap widened.
Meanwhile, Yeon-hee's arrow attacks continued, and the young ones gradually began to fall.
'Such hunting is possible only because their intelligence is low.'
Even a goblin wouldn't just chase after me like this.
Then, I felt the overflow of energy depleting, and Lan's form overhead began to blur.
(Hmm... It seems that's all for today, master. The first battle was very enjoyable...)
With those words, Lan vanished without a trace.
'Still, he held up for quite a while, indeed the power of an artifact.'
While it was initially difficult to keep this guy active for a short time, utilizing them for a few minutes was fully satisfactory.
Kuiii...
Finally crushing the last big boar's head with my club, the battle was concluded.
The defeat messages went scrolling by, but once again, I didn't level up. Yet, a serene glow emanated from Yeon-hee's body.
"Phew- that was exhausting."
With dark circles forming under her eyes, Yeon-hee, who had struggled, collapsed to the ground.
But after catching her breath for a moment, she seemed deep in thought, then pulled out a gray summoning scroll.
It seemed it was the reward from her recent level-up. Was she planning to summon in the dungeon, unlike usual?
"I think we definitely need more summons."
"Clack-clack-clack!!"
Barely finishing her words, she opened the summoning scroll and began chanting.
Thankfully, there were no enemies nearby, but there was a need to hurry.
Yeon-hee must have considered that, as her chanting was significantly faster than usual.
And shortly after, a familiar portal opened, and something short in stature began to emerge from it.
It was...
'A kobold.'
Similar in build to a goblin, with pale green skin, they are monsters primarily dwelling inside caves, like slimes.
Though less intelligent than goblins, they are somewhat stronger, always carrying a bundle resembling a sack, often filled with stones or ores.
Even now, the monster, with a small bundle nearly the size of its head, looked around with a dazed expression.
"Wow, this is the first time I'm seeing one. That's a kobold, right?"
Nod-
Although there's probably nothing remarkable about a low-rank summon, it is indeed a better companion than a skeleton soldier.
The fact that it can carry that heavy ore bundle alone indicates its basic strength.
The monster, with its long drooping ears, approached me and bowed deeply.
"Uh? Why is it doing this?"
However, soon realizing it had approached the wrong person to bow to, it stood up again and went to Yeon-hee, bowing low.
"Wow... that's fascinating... Can you understand what I'm saying?"
The kobold stood in a daze for a moment before nodding vigorously.
'Surely its intelligence is... Yeon-hee should assign it the simplest tasks possible, like pushing away anyone approaching her.'
"Great, since we're in a rush, let's quickly name it and get on with what needs to be done."
I thought it could wait until we got home, but I remembered how my status window only appeared once she had called my name.
"Okay, I'll name you 'Ddung', because you have a grumpy expression, haha."
Though it was an insincere name, the kobold named 'Ddung' hopped joyfully upon receiving it, rummaging through its bundle and suddenly offering something to Yeon-hee.
"Huh? A gift as soon as we've met?"
And surprisingly, it was a low-grade mana stone.
"Wow?! Are you really giving this to me?"
Nod-nod-
As Yeon-hee thanked it, the kobold bounced up and down like a child, visibly delighted.
"What is going on here? Are you a golden goblin or what?"
It was just a brief moment, and soon after, Yeon-hee ordered 'Ddung', the kobold, to stay by her side and fend off any approaching enemies.
Cutely serious, the kobold nodded, pulling out several long, large stones from its bundle and laying them on the ground.
"I'd expect it to throw stones, but this guy is different? But isn't it a bit odd-looking?"
The stones scattered on the ground were strikingly similar, some even had handles, resembling little hammers seemingly crafted for a child's hands.
'Hmm... Those look appealing.'
Gear that I wouldn't have glanced at before, today appeared exceptionally valuable.
【Ddung, give me one of those hammers, will you?】
When I spoke, the kobold gazed at me with wide eyes before handing me a hammer willingly.
'He's easily giving it away?'
Using someone else's gear usually greatly reduces the item's performance and is considered a bad omen among hunters, practically a superstition.
But what about between summons?
=====
Kobold's Crude Stone Hammer
- Attack Power +4
- Durability 30/30
=====
'Wow!! I can use it? No performance drop? This is amazing!!'
Incredibly, this had twice the attack power compared to my roughly carved club, and its durability was 10 higher.
I swung the slightly longer-than-palm-length stone hammer around experimentally.
Hwiririk- Hwirik-
"Wow~! Ilwol spinning the hammer looks so cool!"
Hoo...
After demonstrating some flashy moves with the spinning hammer, I nodded in satisfaction.
'It's crude and small, but that makes it easy to handle.'
We ended up gaining a mana stone and acquiring equipment simply by summoning a kobold, giving me the feeling of striking gold.
Yeon-hee, humming a little tune, sliced open the young big boar's hide.
We did face one more skirmish when goblins caught up with our scent, but we managed to complete the butchering process smoothly.
In that encounter, the kobold 'Ddung' impressively fulfilled its small role.
Though its response was slow, having an ally beside Yeon-hee made a significant difference in the overall outcome.
The kobold's blank face, making me somewhat want to punch it, had me genuinely wondering if it had a passive taunt ability.
After the battle, we washed off the blood at the lakeside and started to head back toward the exit.
TL's Corner:
I'm wondering, will the summons eventually evolve?
I hope they do, except for the mole cricket pup.
