==========

The morning of the closing ceremony was filled with an unusual atmosphere.

Upon arriving at the main gate, dozens of students had already gathered, forming a circle around something. In the center, Mr. Kanzaki, the student guidance counselor, was frantically directing traffic, sweat on his brow.

"Damn... it really stinks."

"Are you serious...?"

"But it's too thick, isn't it...?"

"Who did this...?"

"The quantity is incredible... was it constipated?"

"Gross! Awful!"

"I think this is a prank carried out by about three people conspiring."

"No, it's harassment of the school."

"Call the police!"

"It's worse than something an animal would do!"

Excited voices flew among the students. I peered through a gap in the crowd.

There, like a work of art, sat a gigantic "thing." Brown and thick, with a rugged, irregular shape, it looked as if it had been intentionally placed. Its healthy color, conversely, highlighted its horror.

Its bizarre presence made me involuntarily stop. If I touched it with my special ability, I might see the perpetrator's memories. But... surely that's...

"Hey, no sightseeing now!" Mr. Kanzaki's voice boomed.

"Hurry to your classrooms!"

Students hastily dispersed from the crowd. But some were taking pictures with their smartphones. Amidst all this, I headed to the classroom with an indescribably muddled feeling.

What should have been the closing ceremony had turned into a rather ominous morning event. Who was responsible for that rugged "artwork"?

As I climbed the stairs to the classroom, I pondered. Perhaps this wasn't just a simple prank...

Immediately after lunch break in the classroom. Reiko and Ryoko rushed in, bathed in the strong sunlight streaming through the window.

"It worked." Reiko's voice trembled with suppressed excitement. I guided them to the window. Here, we wouldn't have to worry about being seen from the hallway.

"Tell me."

"More than I expected." Reiko whispered.

"We met behind the gym. Onizuka was wary at first, but..."

"When I spoke to him, he was really nervous," Ryoko continued.

"Reiko came too, and the two of us brought up summer vacation."

"Then," Reiko's eyes sparkled with delight.

"He blushed like an elementary school student. He said, 'Am I good enough?'"

"When we asked about his summer plans, he said he had none. He said it was like a dream to be able to go to an amusement park together. He also asked if he could invite his best friend Yamashita because he'd be nervous with just the two of us," Ryoko added.

"To think that Onizuka would react so honestly."

Just then, familiar footsteps echoed in the hallway. We immediately changed the subject.

"So, the new cake is..." Reiko continued talking in a natural voice.

Yamashita's figure passed by in the hallway. His small stature of 155cm. I could tell his eyes, behind the black-rimmed glasses, were fixed on us.

"Oh, Yamashita-kun," Reiko, like a master actress, called out brightly.

"Just in time. Hey, we're going to an amusement park on the first day of summer vacation, would you like to come along?"

"That's right," Ryoko naturally chimed in.

"Onizuka-kun is going too, but he said he'd feel uneasy alone, so he asked if he could invite his best friend Yamashita-kun."

"Th-that's..." Yamashita replied in his usual stuttering voice.

"It w-would be fun if we could all go."

His appearance was like a completely different person. The cold expression I saw in the hospital memory yesterday, the inscrutable eyes when he hypnotized Misaki, were not there. After Yamashita left, we exhaled slightly.

"The acting was perfect," Ryoko whispered.

"Yes," Reiko also nodded contentedly.

"We definitely reeled him in with that."

Outside the classroom, cicadas chirped. The air just before summer vacation was filled with anticipation and tension.

"Now..." I said, looking out the window.

"All that's left is to wait for Saturday."

The operation was about to begin in earnest. But at least, the first stage was a perfect success.

The humid gymnasium. The fan's breeze wasn't enough to cool the heat of the assembled students.

I sat in the back row, staring intently at the stage. Misaki, as student council president, was giving her closing ceremony speech.

Her white uniform blouse was slightly transparent with sweat. The gesture of tucking her hair behind her ear was just like the usual Misaki. But something was different. The humid gymnasium. The eyes of the neatly arranged students were focused on Misaki on the stage.

"Um..."

With her uniform slightly transparent from sweat, Misaki looked down at her notes. She had her usual dignified demeanor, but something was different.

"Starting today, a fun summer vacation begins... ahn!"

Misaki began to speak in a dignified voice. However, suddenly, her body jerked.

"Everyone, oh...!"

Clearly, something was amiss. Her voice held a slight tremor. Sweat trickled down her forehead. Her cheeks were abnormally flushed. Misaki's condition was clearly different from usual.

"Please spend a meaningful summer vacation... uh, please do."

Her words broke off. Misaki took a deep breath.

"Many of you will probably go to the beach or the mountains. But..."

At that, Misaki suddenly fell silent. Just as I wondered what was happening, she suddenly cried out, "Mmm-mmh-ah!" It was a loud sound that echoed throughout the gymnasium. The students murmured.

"Hey, is the student council president alright?"

"Is she feeling sick or something?"

"Ah, um... I'll continue."

Misaki resumed her speech, her face bright red. But she was clearly not herself.

"Please be careful with safety... and make enjoyable memories... Ahhhh!"

For some reason, she was rubbing her thighs together and gripping her hands, trembling. Sweat dampened her speech notes.

"Also, don't forget your assignments. For the second semester... thoroughly... juh... mm-mm-mm-oh!"

Misaki suddenly stopped for a moment.

(This is bad...)

Some of her classmates looked at Misaki suspiciously. But Misaki quickly recovered and started speaking again.

"We must prepare!"

Each time her words faltered, Yamashita's eyes at the side of the stage glowed eerily. Behind his black-rimmed glasses, his gaze held Misaki captive.

"We, the student council, are also preparing for the cultural festival in the second semester..."

Her voice was hoarse. I knew. That Yamashita was doing something to her with his hypnosis.

"S-so then... everyone," Misaki's voice echoed in the gymnasium.

She was slurring her words. Drooling. Her voice was tinged with a desperate plea for help. Ryoko tugged at my sleeve. Reiko also looked at Misaki with worried eyes.

But right now, I could do nothing. I could only watch.

"Have a fun summer vacation..."

In her last words, Misaki's voice slightly cracked. Her steps as she descended the stage were somewhat unsteady.

"Phew, phew..."

After finishing her speech, Misaki returned backstage, out of breath. Worried whispers escaped from among the students. But no one knew the true reason for her unusual behavior.

Reiko and Ryoko glanced at me. Only the three of us knew. The truth of Misaki's suffering. And the existence of the black-rimmed glasses causing it.

Only a little more until Saturday. Until then, Misaki's suffering would continue.

I clenched my teeth. For now, all I could do was imprint this sight in my mind, sealing my anger towards Yamashita deep within my heart.
