Chapter 23: Lord Monster

After a moment of awkward silence the middle aged man spoke up again.

"Oh lord monster... is it possible that you can not speak?" The man was scared to ask, because if the monster could talk, it would surely kill him for doubting its intelligence.

But also if he didn't ask, and the monster couldn't talk, after a certain amount of silence it would get irritated and kill them all.

He had to bet on the safer option... at least it maybe wouldn't kill others if only he enraged it.

Coal was saddened that he couldn't talk and was about to leave in disappointment... but when the man asked him this question his eyes lit up and he nodded frantically.

"Oh..." the middle aged man was happy that he picked the right option. He would live another day!

Of course he couldn't have known that Coal didn't intend to kill anyone even if he didn't come to that conclusion.

He wasn't enraged because they had hurt him, it was only natural that humans would fear monsters... it's just that human was very special in this regard.

"Would lord monster want to enter the city?" He was less intimidated now that they had established some sort of communication.

Coal in fact didn't want to enter the city, he wanted to ask for directions. But considering the man could probably not guess that, he had just nodded.

The man gave an order to open the city gates. He had to comply with the monster, or else the whole city would face destruction. Did it even matter if the monster would break into the city or let into the city?

The gate opened with a loud creak. Some people who had been around the city gate lost balance when they saw what kind of monster stood infront of them.

This is unreal! Is what all the citizens wanted to shout, but were suppressed by fear.

The city gate and the main road were big enough for Coal to head in. The city truly was big.

The middle aged man commanded the soldiers to explain everything to the baron and make an announcement to the citizens.

This monster came in peace and is not to be offended! This was the command that had been given to everyone in the city.

The news of the huge monster quickly spread through the city like a hell fire. People were demanding explanations as to why had this monster been allowed in.

Nobody could answer this question, but everyone knew the reality. Nobody dared to confront or question the monster directly.

Coal followed the middle aged man, the man was silent. Coal didn't understand where the man was leading him.

Suddenly he stopped. He sensed a familiar energy, this was the energy the scythe was emitting and absorbing.

He threw a glance in the direction of the energy. It was a large white building.

The middle aged man noticed the monster starring at the white building. It was a church.

Suddenly the man dropped a sweat. The church had the strongest military force, the holy order.

But he knew the monster would overwhelm them in a second. He panicked, if the monster destroys the church... they will lose the goddesses blessing.

"Uhm... monster lord, this is the church. They connect our lowly realm with the heavens."

Coal glanced at the middle aged man, church huh? He wondered whether he could absorb the divine energy like the scythe did.

He headed towards the church. The middle aged man collapsed, there was nothing he could do now.

As he entered the building he noticed a huge statue of a goddess on the other side of the room.

This statue was way bigger than the ones he had seen in the checkpoints. It was even a bit bigger than him.

He approached the statue and the energy became denser, as if trying to push him to his knees.

Submit to you? You wish!

This moment some of the church workers came down to see what was happening here. They work at the church but usually they stay in their rooms on the upper floor.

Coal slashed the statue in half with his paw. He had seen Zero do it a bunch of times, he tried his best to replicate the perfect slash in half.

He thought that the technique mattered, it didn't. A large amount of divine energy was escaping from the statue.

It turned into the image of the goddess, it was furious. She knew that human with the weird scythe had been breaking her statues, and she even tried to get rid of him, but she failed and even lost a portion of her power.

And the worst of all, the power she lost that day doesn't regenerate. It's as if her essence itself was ripped out of her by the scythe.

She was pretty pissed at that human, but she couldn't act rashly. If the scythe would absorb more of her power, she might become a fallen god, or even worse, die!

True gods are pretty similar in power, and they had a truce... but if the others found out she was weakened, and by a mortal who isn't even at the demigod stage... they would get rid of her real quick.

She starred at the dog that had destroyed her statue. A mere dog dares to oppose the gods!?

Courting death!

She quickly launched a bunch of attacks at Coal. She could only use the energy that was stored in the statue, it wasn't much.

But it should be enough to deal with a mere dog!

Coal wasn't sure if he could absorb the energy just as the scythe was doing... not only could he not, but he was instead attacked by it?

Coal dodged the strikes, he dashed into a wall of the church, the wall broke instantly.

The church was pretty big, but nowhere near enough to have a fight.

The goddess was annoyed that the mere dog had dodged her strike.

She prepared another strike, the energy in the statue was weakening and dark clouds slowly started appearing above the city.

The curse was weakening because the goddess was actively utilizing the energy that was keeping up the curse.
