Chapter 15: Chapter 14 Rumors and Unintended Consequences
"Have you heard?"
"Heard what?"
"About Uchiha Madara and Hokage-sama!"
"I haven't heard this one before. Come on, brother, explain in detail."
Danzo, disguised with the Transformation Jutsu as an ordinary villager, sat in a teahouse, sipping tea while listening to the hushed discussions around him. The villagers spoke in whispers, as if they were exchanging top-secret information.
Hearing them talk about the deep friendship between Madara and Hashirama, he couldn't help but feel immensely proud.
'Isn't this perfect? Using their friendship to stabilize relations between the Senju and Uchiha... I really am a genius!'
However, something felt off. The way people were discussing the matter—so secretive, so hesitant—made him uneasy.
'Wait... why are they being so sneaky about it? No, I need to steer the narrative properly.'
With that in mind, he casually got up and approached the table where the gossip was taking place.
"Pardon me, brothers, I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. I find it quite interesting—would you mind sharing the details?"
The man who had been speaking first looked uncomfortable, while the others suddenly fell silent.
Danzo raised an eyebrow at their hesitation, then noticed the man rubbing his fingers together—a universal sign of expecting payment.
"Waiter, a round of drinks for this table. It's on me."
Immediately, their faces lit up with joy, and they enthusiastically gestured for him to sit down.
"This brother is quite generous," one of them said with a wide grin. "You must be a man of taste."
'What luck! A clueless rich guy willing to pay for our drinks? Hah, let's milk this for all it's worth!'
Danzo smirked inwardly but maintained a friendly expression. "Not at all, just a curious listener. Now, please, tell me what you know."
The man leaned in conspiratorially. "I heard that Hokage-sama has feelings for Uchiha Madara! Their bond goes beyond mere friendship. Lady Mito is just there for appearances."
Danzo nearly spat out his tea.
*What?!*
As he struggled to process the nonsense he had just heard, a few seats away, Uzumaki Mito—who had gone to the market to buy vegetables—overheard the conversation.
Her grip on her grocery bag tightened.
What did they just say?!
Mito was a woman forged in the chaos of the Warring States period—calm, composed, and strong. But this? This was so absurd it nearly made her drop her groceries.
Meanwhile, Danzo's face had gone pale.
'No, no, no. This is completely off the rails! I need to fix this before it spreads any further!'
Without hesitation, he paid for the table's drinks and bolted out of the teahouse, rushing home. He needed to contact Furukawa Kei immediately. If he didn't act fast, there might not even be ashes left of whoever started this rumor.
But before he left, he discreetly sent a shadow clone to the Konoha Military Police Force, tipping them off about the man spreading the false information.
After all, Danzo was nothing if not a *righteous* ninja.
---
*"Idiots!"*
It was said that on that day, members of the Uchiha clan heard a furious shout, followed by a massive pillar of fire erupting into the sky. Later that evening, Uchiha Madara stormed out of the clan compound, his war fan in hand, his expression darker than the night itself.
When he returned days later, his face was like ice.
Meanwhile, in the Senju household, the legendary "God of Shinobi," Senju Hashirama, was kneeling on a washboard.
For the first time in his life, the greatest ninja of his era looked utterly defeated—not on the battlefield, but before his fuming wife, Uzumaki Mito.
And in the shadows, the true culprit of the entire incident—Shimura Danzo—was trembling in his home, shrouded in paranoia.
*His vest may be intact, but for how long?*
Now that his teacher, Tobirama, was involved in the rumors as well, he knew things were escalating dangerously.
'No, no, no. I have to act fast. I need to throw off suspicion and make sure they never trace this back to me!'
His plan to keep Madara in Konoha? Completely derailed.
---
A few days passed.
Though life in Konoha carried on as usual, an undercurrent of tension spread throughout the village.
Jonin who had seen both Hashirama and Mito over the past few days reported a heavy atmosphere in the Hokage's residence. Even the normally cheerful Hashirama had become strangely quiet.
Then, on the tenth day of the new year, news spread across the entire Land of Fire—
**Uchiha Madara had defected.**
Konoha's first-ever S-rank missing-nin had been born.
The man once called the "Shura of the Ninja World" was now a rogue shinobi, wielding the power to shake the very foundations of the world.
And the only one who could stand against him was his former brother-in-arms—the *God of Shinobi* himself.
Inside the Hokage's office, Senju Tobirama kept his usual calm expression as he addressed the gathered Jonin.
"This is Konoha's first true crisis," he stated firmly. "But once we overcome it, the village will grow stronger. We will endure."
The room was filled with serious faces. At this stage, every Jonin was either a clan head or an elder. Konoha's stability was directly linked to their decisions.
"Madara will return," Tobirama continued. "When he does, we must be ready."
Turning to Hashirama, he added, "Brother, contact sister-in-law. Ask her to call upon the Uzumaki clan to help fortify Konoha's barrier. We won't be able to stop Madara completely, but at the very least, we need to know the moment he enters the village."
Hashirama, his usual cheerfulness replaced with solemn determination, nodded. "Understood."
The meeting lasted until sundown.
For the first time since the village's founding, the joyous spirit of the New Year was overshadowed by a looming storm.
