Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Seichiro, Chinoike Clan, and Glory
"Get lost, get lost! This is a legitimate establishment—no minors allowed!"
With a rough shout, Uchiha Renzou was thrown out of the doorway by two burly men.
Uchiha Renzou got up, looking disgruntled, muttering curses under his breath.
"Damn it, a place that doesn't even let minors in dares to call itself 'legitimate'?"
"Heh—tui!"
Hearing the commotion outside, the villagers inside turned to look at him with strange expressions.
"You brat thought you could sneak in using the Transformation Jutsu? You really think we wouldn't notice?" One of the guards sneered in disdain.
"Hurry up and scram! If you don't leave, I'll have one of your clan elders come drag you back!"
At those words, Uchiha Renzou instinctively shrank his neck.
He shot a fierce glare at the two "guard dogs."
If public humiliation wasn't such a risk…
"You still dare peek inside? Believe it or not, I'll call for backup!" The guard wrinkled his nose and prepared to shout.
Uchiha Renzou quickly abandoned the indecent thoughts in his head and, covering his face, scurried away from the alley.
By the time he reached the main street, there were barely any people left.
The full moon silently watched over the world.
A lingering chill from winter still clung to the early spring wind, making Uchiha Renzou shiver and regain his composure.
Just then, another Uchiha—a member of the same clan and his squadmate—Uchiha Seichiro, staggered out of the alley, a bottle of sake in hand.
Upon seeing Uchiha Renzou, Seichiro looked him up and down. Noticing the dust on his clothes, a mischievous smile spread across his face.
"Well, well, if it isn't the pride of the Uchiha clan?"
"What happened? Got thrown out?"
Uchiha Renzou's face stiffened. "No, I just got stepped on by an elephant while walking down the street."
"Heh, who hasn't been young and reckless?" Seichiro's face was flushed from the alcohol, his breath reeking of sake. He smirked and added,
"I get it, I really do."
"Especially since we're about to take on a mission like this…"
His tone darkened, and his gaze shifted, as if recalling something deeply unpleasant.
Suddenly, his brows furrowed in irritation.
"Your name's Renzou, right? Listen up—"
Seichiro paused, narrowing his eyes.
"For this mission, don't expect me to help you."
[Uchiha Seichiro has developed resentment toward you.]
Uchiha Renzou glanced at the sudden text that appeared before his eyes. His expression remained calm as he responded lightly, "Don't worry, Seichiro-senpai."
"I won't be a burden to you."
"Heh, you still don't understand, do you? Do you even realize what you've done?" Seichiro's face darkened at Renzou's indifferent tone.
"I don't know why the Grand Elder chose to send you on this mission."
"But this mission was originally planned to be carried out by three jōnin-level Uchiha."
"And because of your little ninja 'game,' the Grand Elder changed his mind, forcing a mere chūnin like me into this dangerous mess!"
Seichiro's gaze turned cold as he scoffed.
"You have no idea what kind of lunatics we're up against."
"A Uchiha without the Sharingan? Against them, you're nothing more than a plaything."
Uchiha Renzou slightly raised an eyebrow.
The Land of Hot Water… He had read the original story, of course he knew what awaited them.
Their mission's destination—
Deep within the Hell Valley of the Land of Hot Water—was the Chinoike Clan.
Reflected in their Ketsuryugan was a hatred for the Uchiha that stretched back to the Warring States Period.
Seichiro wasn't wrong.
Without the Sharingan, he had no advantage against the Ketsuryugan, another powerful dojutsu.
Ketsuryugan activated through intense emotional stimulation and immediately granted abilities such as hypnosis, genjutsu amplification, blood-based ninjutsu, and even self-destruction techniques—comparable to the two-tomoe Sharingan.
As its power grew, even more terrifying abilities could emerge.
An Uchiha without a matured Sharingan was nothing more than easy prey for the Chinoike Clan.
On top of that, the Chinoike Clan had survived in the hellish environment of the valley for generations, honing their taijutsu through constant hunting.
Their throwing techniques alone were at least at a "Mastered" level.
And in an area filled with boiling hot springs, conventional ninjutsu was at a severe disadvantage against their highly adapted Blood Dragon Techniques.
Ninjutsu, taijutsu, genjutsu—all were completely outmatched.
Even with his master-level Uchiha shuriken manipulation techniques, Uchiha Renzou would be fighting an uphill battle.
What a perfect scenario.
Ahem. What Uchiha Renzou meant was—what an incredible enemy.
I shall give my all to overcome them!
"Forget it, there's no point in talking to a brat like you." Seichiro took a swig from his bottle, his expression flickering with unease.
"I just awakened my two-tomoe Sharingan… Why does it have to be me?"
With a pained expression, he clutched his head and crouched down, his face filled with fear.
Uchiha Renzou looked at him, lips pressing into a thin line. He sighed and patted Seichiro's shoulder, falling into silence.
He had worried this would happen.
His interference had changed the story, dragging this poor guy into the mess.
Even though they weren't close, Uchiha Renzou still felt a twinge of guilt.
Shaking his head, he finally spoke with conviction:
"Seichiro-senpai, don't worry. I'll say this again—"
"If someone has to die, then let it be me."
Uchiha Renzou said heavily,
"You just need to protect yourself. I've already accepted my fate."
"You… What did you just say?" Seichiro looked up, stunned.
Then, his expression darkened as he sighed.
To him, Uchiha Renzou was still just a naive kid, speaking without thinking.
Only when he truly faced death would he understand what fear was.
They were from the same clan—he had already said more than enough today. Criticizing Renzou further felt unnecessary.
After all, he was still just a child.
"Forget it, forget it… This is my fate."
As if resigning himself to destiny, Seichiro swayed unsteadily as he walked past Uchiha Renzou, heading home.
Under the cold moonlight, his figure looked like a lost dog searching for its way home.
Suddenly, he paused and asked in a low voice:
"Kid, tell me—why are you going this far?"
Uchiha Renzou hesitated for a moment.
He scratched his head, looking a little embarrassed.
He obviously couldn't just say, "I did it for the insurance payout."
After a while—
Standing in the chilling wind, beneath the indifferent moonlight, in the shadow of the towering Hokage Rock—
Uchiha Renzou clenched his fist over his heart.
"The reason, huh…"
His face was unreadable, but his voice was as sharp as a blade piercing through weakness.
"I keep wondering—what can a mediocre ninja like me do?"
"What is the meaning of Konoha and the Uchiha?"
"But after all my thinking, I can only be sure of one thing."
"Without power, I can do nothing."
"So I will offer myself to the flames of war, seek my fate in the chaos of battle…"
"And with these eyes—"
"I will illuminate the world!"
"I will restore the glory of the Uchiha!"
Seichiro watched him in silence.
"…I see."
After a moment, he nodded and walked away, leaving Uchiha Renzou bewildered.
"The hell do you mean, you 'see'?"
Damn it, I said everything I wanted to. You better understand!
