Chapter 8: Chapter 8: The Shinobi Survival Code, Storm Clouds Gather!
6:00 AM.
Uchiha Renzou crushed his alarm clock with a slap before it even had the chance to ring—he had endured that noise for an entire year.
By this time, he was already fully equipped.
Forehead protector, knee guards, leg wraps with shuriken holsters, gloves, foot straps, a scroll pouch strapped to his waist, and a ninja tool bag secured at his lower back.
He donned a high-collared black robe emblazoned with the Uchiha clan crest, stood before the mirror, lifted his bangs, pulled down his eyelid slightly, and sneered:
"Now, I can see your death!"
Posing as 'Shippuden Sasuke using his finishing move against Itachi' in the mirror.
After a brief moment of self-indulgence, precisely at six o'clock, Uchiha Renzou leaped out the window—only to see Uchiha Obito next door doing the exact same thing.
"Renzou, you heading out for a mission too?"
Uchiha Renzou coolly nodded and reminded him, "Don't be late again."
"Are you kidding me? I, Uchiha Obito, am going to be Hokage—ahhhhhh!"
Mid-sentence, Obito pounded his chest confidently, then misstepped and fell straight down from the second-floor window.
Uchiha Renzou shook his head slightly. As expected of you, "Late-to" Obito.
A twisted ankle, a bumped head—anyone who didn't know better might think he was returning from the Rain Country battlefield with an injury medal.
With a visit to the Konoha hospital to patch up, by the time he finally made it to Minato's team, he'd be at least an hour late.
But Renzou was already used to such scenes. He didn't bother with the fallen Obito, instead, he simply chuckled and left him with a parting remark:
"Obito, let's meet at the Memorial Stone next time—don't forget to burn some paper money for me."
With that, Uchiha Renzou stepped onto the roof, pushed off with the arch of his foot, and soared toward the rendezvous point.
There was a restless excitement in his steps.
Uchiha Obito: ???
Uchiha Clan Grounds – A Grand Residence
"This is the situation, Clan Leader Fugaku," Uchiha Shisui bowed respectfully as he explained his purpose.
"Uchiha Renzou, is it?" Uchiha Fugaku's face remained unreadable, but he gave a slight nod, committing the name to memory.
"I believe he can become a bridge between our clan and the village. Clan Leader, when you reach the Land of Hot Water, please keep an eye on my friend!"
"I would be deeply grateful!"
Uchiha Fugaku crossed his arms, his tone calm as he spoke:
"Go, Shisui. I will head to the Land of Hot Water shortly, along with Elder Setsuna. I will keep an eye on your friend."
"As for you—once you arrive in the Land of Rain, make sure to contact the clan members stationed at the camp immediately."
"Also, be wary of a newly emerging organization in the Land of Rain."
Uchiha Shisui hesitated, raising his head slightly, puzzled.
"A new organization?"
Uchiha Fugaku furrowed his brows slightly.
"An organization called 'Akatsuki.' Their ideals are naive, but you may attempt to make contact."
"After all, the three leaders of this organization are disciples of Jiraiya, one of the Legendary Sannin."
"They naturally lean toward Konoha."
Uchiha Shisui nodded slightly, contemplating for a moment before murmuring:
"Akatsuki, huh..."
8:00 AM – Konoha Gates
Two squads, each consisting entirely of Uchiha clan members, had assembled.
The elder, Uchiha Setsuna, glanced at the sky before scanning the gathered members. He spoke in an indifferent tone:
"Since everyone is here, the mission begins now."
"Upon reaching the designated location, squad leaders will open the mission scrolls, provide instructions, and assign tasks accordingly."
"That is all. Move out!"
With that, Uchiha Setsuna took the lead, beckoning to Uchiha Renzou and Uchiha Seichiro before setting off on the road out of the village.
Under these circumstances, there was no time for the six squad members to catch up with each other.
Uchiha Shisui gave Uchiha Renzou a small smile, tapped his fist lightly against his chest, and then followed the squad.
Uchiha Renzou watched this in confusion.
He shook his head, deciding not to dwell on it.
Although Shisui had developed some misunderstandings about him, their missions were completely unrelated.
One squad was heading northwest to the Land of Rain. The other was traveling east, crossing vast hill regions to reach the Land of Hot Water.
Renzou highly doubted that Shisui, stationed in the Land of Rain, could somehow grab him from the Land of Hot Water and prevent him from meeting his demise.
At this point, the biggest threat to my life is already out of the picture!
Victory is mine!
Uchiha Renzou's squad departed from Konoha, advancing toward the Land of Hot Water at a steady pace.
A ninja's speed was comparable to a charging freight truck. The journey from Konoha, across the Fire Country's extensive hill regions, to the Land of Hot Water would take only a single day.
The three members of the squad weren't talkative, and the journey was mostly silent. As they left Konoha's vicinity and moved away from the prosperous areas of the Fire Country—
The scenery changed dramatically.
What filled their vision were refugees and displaced citizens, moving southward from the Land of Hot Water. The once lush, spring-green landscape faded into a bleak gray.
Withered branches, stripped bark, and weary, helpless eyes leaning against the barren trees were the most common sights along their path.
And they were only halfway there.
Signs of ninja activity were already appearing.
Remnants of makeshift camps, scattered supplies from field-cooked meals, hidden traps for security, and occasional wary glances from the shadows all made the squad more alert.
With the Third Great Ninja War looming, small nations caught between the major powers had become the most chaotic zones.
The Hot Water Village's ninja could neither protect the Land of Hot Water nor afford the penalties of failed missions. Many of them had turned into rogue ninjas, blending in with refugees and slipping into the Fire Country.
Eventually, they would become bandits, ending up as bounty targets on mission boards.
As the last rays of sunlight faded—
The red hues of dusk vanished from the sky, and darkness crept in.
Uchiha Setsuna halted the squad's advance.
He pulled out a mission scroll, spread it out on a rock, and spoke in a cold tone:
"Gather around. It's time for the mission briefing."
Uchiha Renzou stiffened. This is it—the real test begins now.
Whether I can unlock the "Died Right After Leaving the Village" achievement depends on this moment.
"This mission's objective is to reach Jigokudani (Hell Valley) in the Land of Hot Water and support the stationed Uchiha forces there."
"Tell me—where do you think the greatest danger lies?"
Uchiha Setsuna fell silent for a moment before suddenly posing the question.
Uchiha Seichiro scoffed, "Besides the threats listed in the Shinobi Survival Code, the main concern is retaliation from the Chinoike Clan, right?"
"Those lunatics are dangerous—each one crazier than the last."
Uchiha Renzou didn't speak but nodded in agreement. He shared the same opinion as Seichiro.
Moreover, he knew—
Beyond lunatics, there were monsters.
Chinoike's Castle—more specifically, Chinoike En.
This notorious figure, a senior of Itachi in the art of family extermination, had single-handedly massacred the entire Chinoike Clan, leaving only his daughter alive.
It was unimaginable how far his Ketsuryugan (Blood Dragon Eye) had evolved.
The Chinoike Clan member who appeared in Sasuke's Shinden arc, Chino, wasn't even worth mentioning in comparison.
Now that's a truly terrifying figure.
However—
Uchiha Setsuna shook his head and sighed heavily, closing his eyes as he spoke in an uncharacteristically grave tone:
"You are wrong."
"The real danger… isn't the Chinoike Clan."
"It lies beyond them."
"What?" Uchiha Renzou was stunned.
What the hell? A monster beyond a monster?!
