Chapter 81: Not Spider, But Silk Gwen
Su Ye's tone was casual, but that coil was far from ordinary.
It was a prototype created by Dr. Fox, based on the Arc Reactor Su Ye had confiscated from Ivan Vanko. Su Ye repurposed it as a miniature nuke.
There were plenty of similar prototypes and defective units. Su Ye didn't have Dr. Fox destroy them; instead, they were turned into bombs.
This was the quickest solution Su Ye could think of for dealing with the Destroyer. Reactor bombs were powerful yet minimally polluting. After all, when the massive Arc Reactor in Los Angeles exploded, no one complained about radiation, did they?
No need to overthink it…
Of course, if Su Ye could lift Mjolnir, it'd be even better—he could just grab the hammer and smack the Destroyer around.
Unfortunately, he wasn't Captain America, nor did the timeline or his values allow for developing a bromance with Thor where the latter might ask Mjolnir to protect Su Ye…
In Thor: Love and Thunder, Jane lifted Mjolnir because Thor had once asked it to protect her.
But if that were the reason Su Ye gained the ability to wield Mjolnir, he'd be utterly disgusted.
With so many girls at home, who the heck would give up the whole forest for a single hammer? That's just insane!
"A coil, huh?"
Spider-Man muttered under her breath, then dropped the subject. She didn't seem interested in further conversation with Batman and instead looked around as if waiting for someone.
Su Ye, meanwhile, had already identified her based on her voice and build. This female Spider-Man was unmistakably Gwen.
The discovery made Su Ye marvel, not at nature, but at how bizarre this world could be.
During one of their past fights, Gwen had once let slip that she was looking for a way to enhance her physique so she wouldn't lose so miserably every time.
Su Ye had dismissed it as idle talk. Without Dr. Parker's decay rate algorithm, even Dr. Connors was still a one-armed scientist. How could Gwen, just an intern, achieve enhanced physiology through cross-species genetics?
But now, Gwen had truly become Spider-Gwen. So how did she gain her powers? Cross-species genetics? Or… was she bitten by something?
If it was cross-species genetics, had Dr. Connors finally succeeded in his experiments? Was the lizard serum complete? Would there be another Lizard outbreak? And if so, should Su Ye step in or just sit back and watch the show?
And if it wasn't genetics but a bite from a super-spider, where did that spider come from? Was it the same one that had bitten Su Ye?
If it was the same spider...
Su Ye suddenly recalled a female hero who hadn't yet appeared in the movies—Silk.
Silk was another female Spider-Man, also mutated from a super-spider bite. And it was the same spider that bit Peter Parker, which led to a rather peculiar connection between them.
Whenever they met, they were irresistibly drawn to each other, inevitably leading to content unsuitable for minors.
The Marvel writer who came up with this must have been a fan of doujinshi. Too bad there weren't more materials on it.
Lately, Su Ye had been busy at the dojo and bar, so he hadn't seen Gwen and wasn't up to date on her situation. For now, he could only speculate. He'd have to remove his disguise later and get the full story from her.
"Well, now that the problem's solved, I should…"
Su Ye, using his voice modulator, spoke in a low tone as he turned to leave. But as he glanced back, he saw Spider-Gwen looking his way, her movements strange, her legs rubbing together…
"What's this…?" Su Ye frowned. What was going on? Was she… itchy?
"Ba… Batman," Gwen's voice suddenly grew strained. "You should go… before someone else shows up…"
Her voice grew softer and more tremulous with each word.
At that moment, Su Ye felt something strange. The female spider before him seemed so graceful. Look at those slender legs, the fine hairs, and that patterned abdomen—so striking… ahem!
It was clear Su Ye's suspicions were correct. This wasn't cross-species resonance—it wasn't just Spider-Gwen, but Silk Gwen. The attraction from the same spider bite was even starting to affect him.
Seeing this, Su Ye knew he couldn't stay any longer. If he did, the doujinshi scenario might actually come true!
"Take care!"
With that, Su Ye leapt off the rooftop, unfurled his cape, and disappeared into the night.
It seemed Gwen really had been bitten by the same super-spider that bit Su Ye. That's why she was drawn to him, her instincts compelling her to react in such a way.
Su Ye wasn't immune either.
But right now, Su Ye was wearing his Batman persona, not Spider-Man. He didn't want to reveal this identity to Gwen. Staying longer would just test her loyalty unnecessarily.
There was no need for that. If Gwen resisted, fine. But if she didn't, Su Ye would essentially be cheating on himself. Even if he didn't suffer physically, it would still feel like emotional betrayal.
It would definitely be awkward, to say the least.
While gliding through the air, Su Ye's helmet communicator suddenly rang. The caller ID showed it was Gwen.
"Ye, where are you right now?"
As soon as the call connected, Gwen's anxious voice came through, tinged with a slight tremor.
"I'm… at home, sleeping? What's up, are you done with work?" Su Ye responded in his normal voice, chuckling.
"Wait for me!"
Gwen cut the call after those two words.
Su Ye quickly shed his cape and fired a webline, swinging rapidly toward his home.
Though separated by only a few blocks, both of them were racing toward Su Ye's rented apartment in Queens. Their emotions differed, but their urgency was the same.
"Faster, the lamb is dying!"
"Faster, I'm not in position yet!"
Both raced against time, but Su Ye, familiar with the terrain, managed to get home first. He quickly shed his suit and dove under the covers.
Barely thirty seconds later, a figure leapt through the open window. By the time she slid under the covers, she had already shed every piece of her suit…
Silk Gwen—terrifyingly fast.
"Gwen?" Su Ye feigned surprise. "What are you—?"
