I Have a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon System in a World with Pokemon

Chapter 71: The Harbingers

There was no clear boundary between the inner and outer areas of the Intra Forest. The only sign they even entered the inner area was the presence of more powerful and aggressive Pokemon.

The first Pokemon they encountered upon entering the inner area was an Ursaring that was leisurely eating honey under a tree. After he saw their group, it instantly stood up and let out a huge and threatening roar.

"URSAA!" (GET OUT OF MY TERRITORY!)

His hands glowed in preparation for using a move when Azumarill swiftly arrived in front of him with Aqua Jet, directly hitting his stomach and interrupting the attack.

Ursaring spit out a mouthful of saliva. His body flew backward at a rapid speed, his back hitting the tree he was sitting under earlier and causing it to shake from the impact. Ursaring's body slid down and remained slumped, his head tilted to the side.

"...Azumarill is really powerful. I doubt most Pokemon will be capable of matching it in terms of close combat in the future. Dante, I can finally understand where your confidence to become the strongest Trainer came from."

Focalors main goal for inviting Dante and Shinobu to come to this forest was to determine why Azumarill was so powerful. And even though it's unbelievable, she finally found the answer after countless hours of observation- with an age of less than 2 years old, this Azumarill has already broken through the racial limit!

Although she knew Shiny Pokemon are special in one way or another, this is beyond just special. It's abnormal! Without the use of Legendary resources, the current fastest record for a Pokemon to break through its racial limit is three years.

From what Father told her, the increase in growth caused by breaking the racial limit is around 10% of the original racial limit. So with a racial speed limit of 50, every time Azumarill breaks through, its speed will increase by 5.

And from what she gleaned, the speed of this Azumarill already exceeded 60. This means that he has broken through the racial limit at least twice!

Focalors looked at Azumarill who came back to Dante's side with complexity. With this Pokemon as a trump card, Dante's goal to be the strongest Trainer in the world was indeed not just a pipe dream.

"Look, a Shuca Berry fell from the tree."

Shinobu stepped forward and picked up the yellow berry from the ground. She held it in her hand and showed it to everyone.

A Shuca Berry can be eaten by a Pokemon to halve the damage taken from Ground-type moves. It's sold in the market for 500 credits each.

"It's the first time we finally found something of value while exploring this place. Too bad it's just a Shuca Berry though."

If it was Dante the day before yesterday, 500 credits is considered a decent sum for him. But with the billions in his account now, he really doesn't have much interest anymore.

Seeing that the three people with her showed little interest in the berry in her hand, Shinobu shrugged and placed the berry in her bag. Their loss then. She looked around the tree, hoping to find more berries but was left disappointed.

After checking Ursaring's condition and ensuring he didn't suffer any serious injuries, the four continued their trek across the forest. Different from the outer area, here, most of the Pokemon they encounter attack them the moment they are seen.

Their relaxing trip quickly turned into a training session. They had to battle Pokemon like Nidoking and Nidoqueen's whole family, a flock of Spearows and Fearow, and even a whole group of Mankeys.

One time, while they were focused on battling a flock of Spearows, an Ekans crawled from behind their group. It used the grass to cover its movement, making it unnoticeable from above. It was only Dante's intuition that came from exploring countless dungeons that he noticed something was off.

When he turned around and saw the Ekans already about to pounce on Furina, he quickly tackled her out of the way. The Ekans missed and were then besieged by both Azumarill and Pikachu, instantly knocking it out, its life and death unknown.

Dante rolled a couple of times on the forest soil with Furina in his arms. They luckily didn't suffer any injuries, just some dirt on their clothes.

After that incident, Furina became a little more quiet, likely in shock from almost dying. Focalors also stayed much closer to protect her sister. The group now made sure to keep one Pokemon at the back to prevent similar things from happening again.

Meanwhile, inside a luxurious office, Neuvillette was sitting in front of an expensive-looking wooden table with a stack of documents. Besides the papers, a laptop was placed with a pink-haired woman wearing a business suit and red-tinted sunglasses on the screen.

"Monsieur Neuvillette, this is all the information our sources inside the Alliance can obtain. We've also included complete background information of the presumed target."

"I see…you have my gratitude, Ms. Malva."

"It's our pleasure to serve you, Monsieur. We'll be satisfied as long as this information can help catch the culprit from 10 years ago."

Neuvillette nodded and hung up the call. Looking at the documents obtained through less than legal means, Neuvillette sighed.

"I have already betrayed my oaths and obligations as the Iudex of France. However, until the hammer of justice does not befall those beasts, this pursuit of mine shall not falter."

Neuvillette's face was covered in shadows as he remembered what happened 10 years ago.

At the time, he was still amid the rise of his career as both a Trainer and an Iudex. While he was presiding over a trial, a distressed phone call came from his wife, asking for help.

His wife, Egeria, was born in a family of ancient Pokemon Trainers. They had a sacred duty passed down from generation to generation to guard and ensure the safety of the Diamond Domain where Diancie and the Carbinks reside.

During that period, his wife was in charge of guarding the place when it was suddenly attacked. He rushed over as soon as he received the call, but when he arrived, the place was already a mess.

The once pristine cave that was filled with crystals that glittered with various colors was gone. Only their remains could be seen littering the surroundings. The countless potholes on the walls and ground are the only remaining proof of how intense the battle that has taken place.

In the middle of the cave, Egeria's family members and other Alliance personnel could be seen scurrying to rescue the many injured Pokemon.

He wasn't able to remember much of what happened during that time. Only the feeling of intense anxiety as he searched for his wife and the intense grief and anger that came when he saw her stitched body in the body bag remained the clearest even to this very day.

The reason why he worked so hard to become the Champion of France today was to obtain the strength to personally judge those people, and at the same time gain access to the Alliance information network.

From the information he gathered over the past 10 years, he learned that the organization that killed his wife was known as the Harbingers.

There is currently no verified information regarding their organization's country of origin, the identity and number of their members, or even their true purpose. What is known, however, is that they only seem to attack Legendary and Mythical Pokemon, capturing them if possible or taking any part of their body for unknown purposes.

For ten years, he had been trying to chase their shadows to no avail. However, his recent purchase of the Diancite may prove to be one of the best leads he currently has in finally getting a concrete clue on their location.

Although Egeria was able to delay the Harbingers from capturing Diancie until reinforcements arrived, they were able to take away the Diancite and Heart Diamond that she possessed.

And while the Diancite he bought may not be the one that was stolen ten years ago, according to Diancie, a Diancite can only be made the moment a Diancie makes their first Heart Diamond. Therefore, it's improbable that a Diancite could be found just by itself.

The most likely possibility is that, after seeing no use for the Diancite, the Harbingers just opted to auction it to gain additional funds for their operation.

He had already sent the Diancite yesterday night back to France for Diancie to personally verify. If it weren't for Diancie still being weak due to over-drafting herself ten years ago to create another Heart Diamond, she would have accompanied him on his journey here.

Neuvillette drank the cup of water on the table to calm down from the complicated emotions he was feeling. This is possibly the closest he has gotten to finding the Harbingers, he doesn't want to ruin his chances of capturing them by being impatient.

He opened the folder which contained the information about the seller. Looking at the first page, his hands froze in place.

On the paper, there was basic information about the identity of the seller. Seeing the white-haired boy on the paper as well as his name beneath, his heart started beating violently.

He remembered the video his daughter showed him last night, about a couple they met whom they quickly befriended. About their schedule today to go to the forest.

Neuvillette had a cold sweat all over his body. His face paled as he thought of the worst possibility.

Were the Harbingers finally going to act against him for his relentless pursuit over the past decade? Were they targeting his daughters as retaliation?!

He quickly stood up from the chair and released Dragonite from the Pokeball. Then, not caring about the mess it would make, he smashed the glass windows and directly headed towards the Intra Forest at the fastest speed.
