Chapter 1.2 - Villainous Noble
The moment I lost my mind and started screaming.
“Y-You’re certain…?”
“Yeah, it’s nothing. Really, I’m fine, Jeeves. No need to worry. You can go back to work.”
I reassured the elderly butler who had rushed over in concern.
“If you say so, young master… But are you truly alright?”
“I am. Honestly. There’s nothing to worry about. Please, just return to your duties.”
“…Your tone seems a little different than usual.”
“But I’m still me, right? You can tell, can’t you?”
“That is true.”
“I won’t give you any reason to worry. You have plenty of work to do, don’t you, Jeeves?”
“…Mmm. If you insist, I shall take my leave. However, if anything happens, please call for me at once. I will come immediately.”
“Yeah. Thanks.”
With a nod, the butler bowed and left the room.
“Phew…”
Watching him go, I let out a long sigh.
“At least I’ve calmed down a little.”
I had been completely thrown off by the realization that I had reincarnated as a villainous noble.
The shock of it all—the impact of those words alone was staggering. Add to that the memories of my previous life, the moment of my death, and the foreign recollections of this life that continued to flood my mind, and it was no wonder I had panicked.
But now, I was finally regaining my composure.
“Lloyd… so he was capable of caring about someone.”
The first thing that came to mind was that butler.
He had served Lloyd since birth, tending to him with care.
Lloyd Reinhardt, the villainous noble who was portrayed in the game as arrogant and devoid of empathy, actually held deep respect for his butler.
“…I can’t let him worry.”
And that feeling—Lloyd’s attachment to his butler—had firmly taken root within me as well.
I didn’t want to cause him concern.
That sentiment had transferred to me along with the rest of Lloyd’s memories.
“Which means… I can’t allow myself to fall into darkness.”
I sat down on the edge of my luxurious canopy bed, whispering the thought to myself.
If I followed the original story and became the tyrant Lloyd was destined to be, I would only bring sadness to the butler who had cared for me all these years.
That wasn’t something I could allow.
“…Then again, resisting arrogance in this environment is asking a lot.”
I took a moment to scan the lavish room around me.
Despite being only twelve years old, I had been granted a chamber fit for a king.
A massive, plush canopy bed. Exquisitely crafted furniture that looked absurdly expensive. Random ornaments adorned with gold and gemstones, just for decoration.
Growing up in this kind of setting, it would be harder not to become full of myself.
Especially when this body also came with overwhelming talent.
“…Hah. But inside, I’m still just me.”
No matter how impressive Lloyd might be, my soul was still that of a forgettable, introverted high schooler.
The personality of Lloyd Reinhardt—the prideful, arrogant noble—had blended with my own, making for an interesting mix.
But at my core, I was still just a small-time nobody.
“Yeah… I’m just a nerd.”
I had the mentality of a classic chuunibyou geek, someone who wouldn’t stand a chance against actual strong personalities.
“A villainous noble, huh?”
Could someone like me really live up to the title of a ruthless, arrogant aristocrat?
“More like I’m the victim here.”
If an actual confident, overbearing noble confronted me, I’d probably just run away.
The idea of me becoming one of them was almost laughable.
“At first, I panicked, but… I guess there’s no need to freak out.”
Looking at things logically, Lloyd Reinhardt wasn’t executed just for being a villainous noble.
He met his end because of the countless crimes he committed.
Just because I had reincarnated as Lloyd didn’t mean I had to follow the same path.
“…I just need to avoid committing any crimes. That’s it.”
As long as I kept my arrogance in check, steered clear of any wrongdoing, and lived an honest life, I wouldn’t be branded a villain.
And if I wasn’t a villain, I wouldn’t be executed.
“…Not like I ever had the kind of life that would make me arrogant, anyway.”
Even in my past life, I had always been aware of my own shortcomings.
I knew I wasn’t special.
Lloyd Reinhardt thought he was above everyone else, and that led to his downfall.
But I wasn’t deluded enough to believe in my own superiority.
“…Especially since I had that one childhood friend who was practically perfect.”
That guy always made me painfully aware of my own inadequacy.
And now, I had the memories of Lloyd Reinhardt—who, despite all his talent, ultimately proved that ability alone wasn’t enough to guarantee success.
With that knowledge, I had no reason to grow conceited.
“Alright!”
My thoughts were now perfectly organized.
No more doubts. No more fears.
I had reincarnated as a villainous noble, but that didn’t mean I had to meet the same fate.
I could live a good life.
“…And I am a noble now, aren’t I?”
From the memories I had inherited, I knew that this world still had a system of slavery.
And more importantly, as a noble’s son, I had plenty of money saved up.
“This means… I can do it, right?”
I clenched my fist, determination flooding through me.
“A slave harem…!”
A morally dubious desire, perhaps.
But it wasn’t illegal.
It was technically within the rules.
That meant it was fair game.
With that thought in mind, I slowly stood up, ready to set my plan into motion.
