Chapter 29: Chapter 29 — Guardians of the Genius
Chapter 29 — Guardians of the Genius
After Aoi Todoroki's press conference, the world changed — and not just for the public.
While the population reacted with emotion or shock, in the depths of the underworld, the echoes of that speech had a very different impact.
Chisaki Kai, the former yakuza known as Overhaul, watched the broadcast with a cold expression.
"These kids with fire in their eyes and dreams in their hands... they spread chaos as if it were salvation."
He crossed his arms, unimpressed, as if he'd seen this story unfold before.
"A child disrupting the structure... typical. An anomaly that needs to be contained before it infects the entire system."
Elsewhere, in a darker corner, a notorious figure sat silently in a pitch-black room.
All For One was watching the replay of Aoi's speech over and over — analyzing every gesture, every pause, every word.
"Precocious genius. Growing influence. Restless soul."
He smiled slowly, thoughtfully.
"A perfect combination... for a symbol. Or an asset."
The silence that followed was heavy with calculation.
"If handled properly, he could serve better than any army. If handled poorly... he becomes a threat."
His eyes narrowed coldly.
"Geniuses rarely stay loyal... but perhaps he could have some use in my plans."
While the criminal underworld plotted possibilities, political corridors filled with urgency.
At the National Office for Heroic Strategy and Defense, Aoi's presentation video sparked heated debate. A confidential report rested atop a polished wooden table, glinting under the room's cold lighting:
TARGET: AOI TODOROKI
STATUS: ACTIVE
THREAT LEVEL: UNKNOWN
POTENTIAL LEVEL: EXTREME
NOTES: Genius intellect, mass influence, increasing firepower, development of autonomous tech
OBSERVATIONS: Troubled family ties with father (Endeavor). Shows resistance to male authority. Highly responsive to maternal and female figures.
A senior advisor stood solemnly.
"Gentlemen, if this boy ever turns against Japan... even though he's a good person now, he's still a child. He can be influenced. If he falls into foreign hands, we could lose decades of progress."
Another leaned forward, more seasoned in tone.
"He's young. Impressionable. Doesn't respond well to direct commands. Any authoritarian intervention could backfire. We must act delicately."
After hours of tense debate, a bold and pragmatic decision emerged:
"Send guardians. Three women. Heroic, powerful, charismatic. He may admire them... maybe even fall in love. If he marries one — or more — even better. That would make Japan irreplaceable to him, since it would be the home of his family... and his wives."
Thus, the Genius Guardian Project was approved.
The chosen names surfaced quickly. Well-known, powerful, and — above all — emotionally compatible with Aoi's profile.
The first to receive the call was Mirko. She was chewing on a carrot when she answered.
"Protect some genius brat?" she muttered. "Whatever. If someone tries to kill him, I'll break their face."
Second was Ryuko Tatsuma — also known as Ryukyu — who accepted the mission with calm confidence.
"Protecting someone special is a burden... but also an honor. I accept."
Lastly, Nemuri Kayama, the seductive Midnight, smiled as she heard the request, twirling the phone cord between her fingers.
"A troublesome genius who needs a feminine touch? I'm already interested."
The next morning, Aoi was at his mother's mansion, focused on regenerative potion experiments. His brow furrowed as he watched the chemical reaction unfold.
"If I can stabilize the base using organic proteins…"
Ding dong.
The doorbell rang, interrupting his thoughts.
"Weird. I wasn't expecting anyone."
He walked to the front door, opened it — and blinked.
Three women stood there, fully dressed in their pro hero outfits.
Mirko crossed her arms.
"You Aoi?"
"Uh... yeah?"
"Great. As of today, we're your personal protectors. Any villain that comes after you is getting destroyed. Period."
Midnight smiled seductively and winked.
"And maybe… we'll give you some much-needed feminine influence too."
Ryukyu bowed with grace.
"We're here for your safety... and peace of mind."
Aoi stared at them, frozen.
"Wait a second... is this some kind of prank show?"
Mirko walked right past him without waiting for permission.
"Nope. It's the government's idea. After your presentation, the whole country knows who you are. Villains — or worse — could come after you. We're here to make sure that doesn't happen."
Aoi blinked, his mind starting to race.
And then… the gears of his genius mind began to click.
"Hold on a second... I get why they'd send someone. But three heroines? And all women? Wait... are they trying to—?"
He remembered an obscure law he had stumbled upon while researching intellectual property rights. It allowed high-ranking heroes or ultra-rich individuals to legally marry multiple spouses under very specific conditions.
It was rarely used.
Why?
Because for heroes, more loved ones meant more targets.
And for the rich... it was easier to keep mistresses in secret than to split fortunes five ways in a divorce.
"So… the government's plan…"
Aoi's eye twitched.
"They're trying to make me fall for them. And if I marry one of them — or all three — they make sure I never leave Japan. Not for money, not for power, not even for beauty traps from other nations."
He sighed.
"These politicians are insane…"
Yet, deep down, a mischievous thought bloomed.
"I mean… if they send more, I wouldn't complain. Just kidding. Sort of. Honestly, they nailed it. If it were other heroines, maybe I'd ignore them. Maybe I'd send them away.
But Mirko, Midnight, and Ryukyu? I used to have a crush on all three back when I watched the anime. No way I'm sending them away."
He cleared his throat.
"Well... I guess... come in."
And so, the door closed behind them.
Three of Japan's strongest heroines were now officially his guardians.
What none of them knew was...
The boy they came to protect was already planning how to turn them into his future wives.
