Chapter 51: Chapter 43
When Alexander, Six, and Maggie returned to the base, they immediately noticed Hilde and Lexa waiting for them. Their expressions were tense, urgency radiating off them.
The moment she saw them, Lexa wasted no time. "We found Crayton and Ella's location."
Six perked up at the mention of Ella. She had heard of the mysterious Tenth Garde from Alexander—a child who had been sent to Earth aboard a separate ship by the elder Loridas. But beyond that, her knowledge was limited.
"They seem to be safe," Hilde added, her tone measured. "Both are good at staying off the grid."
Alexander didn't hesitate. "It's best we move now."
Six, Hilde, and Lexa exchanged glances, curiosity flickering in their eyes. Why was Alexander so eager to find Ella and Crayton? What did he know?
Alexander caught their silent questions. "I'll explain everything," he assured them. "Call the others."
Everyone gathered in the dimly lit meeting room, the holographic display casting soft blue light over their faces. The weight of the moment pressed down on them as Alexander prepared to reveal something few had ever known.
"The reason we need to find Ella quickly," Alexander began, scanning the room, "has to do with Setrakus Ra's past."
A hush settled over the group, anticipation thick in the air.
Katrina furrowed her brows. "So, Setrakus Ra had descendants? And they lived on Lorien?"
Alexander nodded. "I had to dig deep into Lorien's history to uncover this, but yes. Setrakus Ra was married. His wife was a Cêpan named Celwe."
That sent a ripple of shock through the room. The thought of Setrakus Ra—a ruthless tyrant—once having a family was difficult to comprehend.
"Their relationship was strained," Alexander continued. "After Setrakus returned from battle on Mogadore and was appointed a Loric Elder, he became obsessed with his experiments—mining and processing Lorien's power. Celwe grew to despise his title and feared what he was becoming. Pittacus Lore himself visited their home once, only to find it trashed after one of their fights. Celwe confided in him, expressing her concerns about Ra's growing obsession."
The room remained silent, absorbing this new perspective on Lorien's most feared enemy.
"We've always viewed the Elders as these legendary figures," Six muttered, shaking her head. "But they were just as flawed as the rest of us."
A few heads nodded in agreement. Pittacus Lore's failure to kill his former brother was what led to Lorien's downfall. The legends they had clung to for so long were starting to look less like gods and more like flawed individuals who made mistakes—mistakes that cost them their home.
Alexander pressed on. "Celwe was raised to believe that Loric mate for life, so despite everything, she followed Setrakus Ra into exile when he was cast out. She lived with him on Mogadore as he rose to power and became their Beloved Leader. Years passed, and while Celwe aged, Setrakus Ra mastered fertility and genetics to ensure she could bear his child—a daughter named Parrwyn."
Hilde exhaled sharply. "So that means… Raylan's mother was Parrwyn." Her voice dropped to a whisper. "Ella is Setrakus Ra's great-granddaughter."
The revelation sent a shiver through the room.
Alexander nodded. "That's why we need to find her first. From everything I've seen, she takes after her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother—not Setrakus Ra."
Dante scoffed. "Good. We can't blame a child for her great-grandfather being a monster."
A silent agreement passed between them. Ella was innocent.
Six, still processing, leaned forward. "What about Ella's father? Raylan?"
Alexander sighed. "That's where things get complicated."
He paused, gathering his thoughts. "Raylan took after his grandfather. When he learned of his lineage—a descendant of Setrakus Ra, the Tenth Elder—he became obsessed with the idea that his family should assume the Elder's role. During the Secret Wars, when the Elders reduced their numbers to nine, Raylan believed that spot rightfully belonged to him."
A heavy silence followed. Raylan's obsession with the past had poisoned him.
"Like Hilde previously said Raylan became a bitter, distrustful man," Alexander continued. "He withdrew from society, living in the mountains alone with his menagerie of Chimæra. The Elders considered him dangerous, so they sent Erina to keep an eye on him."
"And?" Six pressed. She was not the only the others girls were also interested, since they could tell there some romantic story here.
"At first, he didn't trust her," Alexander admitted. "But over time, they grew close. Erina would fly with his Chimæra, create lightning, and even learned to change its color—a skill only Raylan possessed. Eventually, they fell in love."
There was something almost tragic about the story—a glimmer of warmth in an otherwise dark legacy.
"Ella was born mere hours before the Mogadorian Invasion," Alexander revealed. "She was the only light in Raylan's bitter life."
Alexander spoke up."I am hundred percent sure, Setrakus Ra wouldn't care anything about Ella, but she is his heir in his eyes and a tool to further his goals."
The air in the room grew heavier as Alexander's tone darkened. His usual composure was tinged with something rarely seen—concern.
"I don't want Ella to be found by Setrakus Ra," he said grimly. "And there's another reason we need to find her first."
Everyone listened intently as Alexander continued. "Setrakus Ra possesses a very rare Legacy. I believe Ella may have inherited it."
A ripple of unease passed through the room. A Legacy? From Setrakus Ra?
Hilde's brows furrowed. "What kind of Legacy?"
Alexander exhaled before answering. "Dreynen."
The name alone was enough to make the room go completely silent.
"It's a Legacy that cancels out another Garde's abilities," Alexander explained. "It is said to be one of the rarest Legacies from Lorien. That's why Setrakus Ra was nearly unbeatable—only Pittacus Lore's Ximic could counter his Dreynen."
The implications hit them all at once.
If Ella truly inherited Dreynen, it meant she had the potential to nullify any Garde's power. It meant that, in the wrong hands, she could be used to render them all defenseless.
Six's expression hardened. "If Setrakus Ra finds out about Ella…"
Alexander finished the thought. "He'll take her. And once he does, he'll use her against us."
The weight of those words settled over them. They had always fought against Setrakus Ra, knowing he was a threat. But now? Now they were racing against him to save someone who could determine the fate of their entire war.
The mission was no longer just about keeping Ella safe.
It was about making sure Setrakus Ra never got his hands on her.
