I Suddenly Became Rich, But I Have No Idea How to Spend the Money

Chapter 26

The Last Day of the Atami Trip

Once again, the two of them had breakfast in their room.

“I really don’t feel like going back to Osaka. Driving for four hours sounds like a pain.”

“Same here. This lifestyle is just too comfortable. I don’t want to spend four hours in a car heading back to Osaka.”

Kirishima knew that if they kept talking like this, they’d eventually reach the conclusion that they might as well not go back at all. So, he decided to change the subject.

“Oh, that Rolex looks great on you! Where’d you get it?”

“Right? My amazing boyfriend gave it to me as a present!”

He was now certain—if things ever got awkward, bringing up this topic would be a surefire way to distract her for a while.

“Anyway, once we finish eating, let’s check out and head back to Osaka.”

“I don’t really want to, but I guess there’s no choice.”

That haughty tone of hers—where did it come from? Kirishima felt like he had uncovered yet another mystery about Hitomi.

After finishing breakfast, they checked out of the hotel and stopped by Izu and Hakone to buy souvenirs. They stocked up on Hakone Mori no Baum cakes, hot spring manju, and Sagamiya’s Nut Vessel, filling the Lexus LX to the brim before finally setting off for Osaka.

“Once we get back to Osaka, I’ll have to earn back all the money we spent on this trip.”

“We should actually start saving. If we keep spending like we’re on vacation, no amount of money will ever be enough.”

“I can’t argue with that.”

“A little luxury is fine, but don’t go overboard, okay?”

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

“As long as you understand.”

They continued their idle chatter, and before they knew it, the four-hour drive had passed, and they arrived at Hitomi’s home.

“Alright, we’re here. Let’s get your stuff out.”

“Thanks!”

Kirishima parked at the entrance of Hitomi’s apartment and unloaded her suitcase.

“Wanna stay over?”

“Nah, you’ve got laundry to do, your room to clean, and you probably need to check in with your parents too, right? So I’ll pass for today. I also have to unpack, do my own laundry, and tidy up my place so it’s ready for when you visit.”

“You don’t have to worry about that! Well, in that case, I’ll make sure my place is clean enough for you to visit too.”

“Sounds good.”

Since carrying all those souvenirs and bags alone would be tough, Kirishima helped bring most of them up to her room before they parted ways.

Back at his own cramped apartment, he parked his car, unloaded his Atami souvenirs and his prized Rimowa suitcase, and brought everything inside.

The suits and shoes alone had cost over ten million yen, but luckily, most of them weren’t ready yet. If they had been delivered already, his room would’ve turned into nothing more than a glorified closet.

After setting down his bags, Kirishima checked the stock market.

“…Everything’s skyrocketing…

Not quite doubling like at the start, but since my investment capital is huge now, the gains are insane…”

His portfolio was nearing 50 billion yen.

Considering it all started with about a million yen he won from pachinko, it was an unbelievable situation.

“Maybe it’s time to look into other investment opportunities…

Also, next year’s taxes are seriously terrifying…”

Income tax, prefectural tax, health insurance, pension—now that he was no longer under his parents’ support, he had to pay for everything himself.

Feeling a sense of dread, he closed his browser.

“I don’t have any part-time work, and I can’t spend every day hanging out with my girlfriend… Summer vacation is actually kinda boring.”

Maybe he should go car shopping…

Kirishima was already on the verge of forgetting his promise to be more frugal.

Though his apartment was small, he wanted to improve its interior. However, since he was moving to a new place in March next year, buying new furniture now didn’t seem practical.

“I can’t even buy anything if I don’t know the dimensions of my new place…”

He couldn’t wait to move into his new home.

For now, he decided to take it easy tomorrow.

College summer vacation was long.

Kirishima’s summer had only just begun.
