I Suddenly Became Rich, But I Have No Idea How to Spend the Money

Chapter 27

When I woke up, I thought about having breakfast, but I realized that the only food I had was the souvenirs I had bought in Atami.

“Well, I guess this will do.”

I brewed some coffee from my stockpile, opened a Hakone Mori Baum, and decided to make that my breakfast.

“Now then, what should I do today?”

Despite being a university student (or even compared to most adults), I had an enormous amount of money. However, the truth was that I was just a student who had recently come into wealth.

Because of that, I found myself concerned about my car’s fuel efficiency—just 6 km per liter.

If I stuck to regular roads, given that my car was still fairly new, the mileage was slightly closer to the manufacturer’s stated value, but in reality, it was more like 4.5 km per liter.

When you have a lot of money, big expenses tend to lose their impact.

You don’t really feel like you’re spending money at all.

However, every time I took my car out, I needed to refuel, and considering that it only ran on premium gas, even someone as wealthy as me couldn’t help but pause and think about it.

After all, one trip out meant that simply filling up my tank could easily cost me several tens of thousands of yen.

“Maybe I should look for a more fuel-efficient car.”

With that thought, I got dressed and headed to the parking lot.

For today’s outfit, I wore gray New Balance sneakers, white denim, and a black polo shirt. I also didn’t forget my favorite Oliver sunglasses.

Lately, I had really taken a liking to this style. Since layering in the summer wasn’t appealing to me at all, I often opted for a polo shirt and denim.

To an outsider, I might just look like an average well-off university student—certainly not a billionaire.

“Might as well buy some clothes while I’m in Umeda or Namba. But first, I need to stop by a convenience store to withdraw cash and then head to a gas station.”

I withdrew 990,000 yen from the ATM at the convenience store.

It was a small dream of mine—to withdraw the maximum amount just once.

“I feel like my sense of normal is slipping away…”

As I pulled the thick wad of bills from the ATM without hesitation, that thought crossed my mind.

I stuffed as much as I could into my beloved Louis Vuitton Portefeuille wallet, and the rest went into the center console of my car. Then, after stopping by the gas station, I drove toward Umeda.

My first stop was the GUCCI store in Umeda’s HERBIS Plaza.

“Having a parking lot here is a real blessing.”

With that thought, I splurged on a Gucci canvas messenger bag, shirts, T-shirts, polo shirts, and denim—total shopping spree.

At checkout, the store clerk enthusiastically recommended signing up for their new product update service, so I registered. I also made sure to have them validate my parking ticket.

After finishing my purchase, I remembered that there was an Oliver Peoples store in the basement and headed there.

As I entered, a store clerk greeted me, but I was too fixated on one item to even respond.

It was just a regular tinted pair of sunglasses, but the design was exactly my style, so I bought it immediately.

After adjusting the fit to suit my face, I paid and left the store wearing my new sunglasses. The Oliver sunglasses I had originally been wearing went into the box of the new pair.

After browsing through the rest of the shops in the building, I retrieved my car from the parking lot.

“Now, where to next?”

As I aimlessly drove around, something popped into my mind.

“I need summer sandals.”

And when it comes to sandals, there’s only one place to go! So, I headed to the Birkenstock store in Shinsaibashi.

I parked my car in the Nagahori parking lot, which I always used. With its large capacity, reasonable fees, and spacious spots for big cars, it was a convenient choice.

When I arrived at the store, I greeted the staff and looked for the model I had my eye on.

I had been wanting a pair of Boston clogs made of oiled leather for a while. I used to only see them in magazines.

When I finally found them, I thought, “This is it!” and reached for a black pair—only to notice a different color in the same design right next to it.

The “Tobacco Brown” color and its unusual name caught my attention, so I ended up buying that one along with the black pair.

While I was at it, I also picked up two more pairs—the Zurich model in black and camel—for indoor and everyday wear.

“That should cover my summer sandals.”

Satisfied with my purchases, I realized I had been running around non-stop since morning without eating, and I was starting to get tired. I thought about grabbing a drink somewhere—like a girl would, I mused to myself—as I walked around looking for a shop.

As I passed by Urban Research and ZARA, I felt drawn to the area toward Sakaisuji and kept walking.

Then, just a little farther down, I spotted a steakhouse.

Just thinking about steak made my mouth water, and I swallowed my saliva.

Without hesitation, I walked in, told the staff I was alone, and was led to a counter seat.

Finding such a good steakhouse and getting a counter seat—I was incredibly lucky.

Feeling pleased, I ordered a course lunch.

The appetizers included Miyazaki beef roast beef and seafood—an absolutely perfect meal.

For the main dish, I was served a 150g Miyazaki beef sirloin steak.

It had been a while since I’d had steak, and as I took a bite, I thought, “So this is what it means for meat to melt in your mouth.”

“This is amazing. And the fact that I get change from 6,000 yen? I’m definitely coming back.”

While 6,000 yen for lunch was expensive by normal standards, I still made a vow to return as I left the restaurant.

“Now, where to next?”

I decided to drop off my four new pairs of sandals in my car.

As I was heading there, I noticed the large Daimaru department store building.

“Might as well check it out.”

After dropping off my shopping bags, I headed inside Daimaru.

I was overwhelmed by the number of foreign tourists but tried to ignore it as I browsed Bulgari, Loewe, and Celine. However, nothing really caught my interest.

“Maybe I should’ve gone to the Hankyu Men’s Building instead.”

Feeling a little unsatisfied, I checked my Rolex and saw that it was almost 4 PM.

“Oh, right. I was supposed to go to the car dealership.”

Finally remembering my main objective, I headed back to the parking lot, got in my car, and drove off.

If I was going to care about fuel efficiency, BMW might be a good choice…

BMW had the i Series, a lineup of hybrid cars.

That would definitely be more fuel-efficient than my current car, so I headed toward the BMW showroom in Umeda.
