Chapter 9: Story 3 : Crimson Seals - The Legacy of the Uzumaki #02 : Mito 1.1
Mito Uzumaki was not someone who dwelled on past memories. Ever since she became the wife of Hashirama, she knew that her time was limited. Even being an Uzumaki descended from the direct line of Arashi Uzumaki, she knew when she took on the burden of becoming the very first Jinchuriki, her body would give out long before she could reach the natural end of her lifespan.
The same was for her dearest husband. Hashirama, ever since he was little, knew that he was simple and not in a way that the entire world knew about.
Her husband was perhaps the single strongest being in this accursed world. And that didn't come without a cost. Perhaps, if Hashirama was born a few generations earlier when the Ancestral bloodline was still strong enough to sustain his prodigious abilities, he could have lived for a little bit more.
But as things stood, his body, his very lifeforce gave out as he used his Wood Release abilities over and over again, in hopes that he could see his dream come true. And he did, he established the very first Hidden Village, officially ending the Warring States Era.
And yet…
And yet, "Maybe the dream you saw could never be fulfilled in this accursed world, Hashirama. Maybe you were born in the wrong world. I am sorry my dear, I couldn't see your dream come true," She muttered as she wiped the teardrops that fell on the photo album that she found herself looking at, day in and day out.
The dream that the little Monkey had delivered to her was just another addition to the list of tragedies that had occured ever since her Husband died. Leaf Village children being sent to the frontlines, to a world of kill or get killed.
And now, her clan, her family was gone. Aside from Kushina who had just arrived in the village a few weeks prior, she probably had no other living relatives left. No other pureblood Uzumaki left.
Because of the very way that the Uzumaki lived, most of us never really strayed away from the family we had built in Uzu. As such, she knew that the chances of surviving Uzumaki clan folk was close to nil.
"What would you do, Hashirama?" She asked the smiling Hashirama in the photo, with his brother, his only surviving brother in the frame, ruffling Tobirama's white hair, something that Tobirama hated but only gave his elder brother the privilege to get away with.
Hashirama's brothers, she thought to herself as she wiped off her tears.
At this point, the sealing array had done the work and suppressed the fox's chakra completely. The fox was a very resilient creature, a force of unyielding malice and hatred manifested into a chakra being.
She had built this room with the intention of artificially stopping the fox's chakra from interfering with the seal, if the situation arose where she would be unable to do it on her own, something that would only happen once her emotions started to get the better of her.
For some reason, a conversation she had with Hashirama in the early days of the village resonated in her mind, a story of why only two out of their 7 brothers had made it to adulthood. Hashirama was the strongest of the seven siblings, but he was not the oldest.
His eldest brother was dead long before Hashirama even began walking. By the time Hashirama began making a name for himself on the battlefield, mainly against the Uchiha, only two of his brothers had survived.
Tobirama and Itama Senju.
All the other brothers had died on the battlefield, mainly by the hands of the Uchiha.
The death of Itama Senju was what prompted Hashirama and Tobirama to figure out a better system. They understood that something needed to change or they would all die to the blade of someone who would only end up alone.
"I could have asked for the heads of the people who killed my brother, Madara would have gladly given them up, hell they themselves would have offered me their lives in exchange for their clan's safety…but…. What was the point even?" Hashirama's teary eyes as he said that statement to her, something that resounded in her mind even now, was something that was seared into her mind.
Hashirama was right, the cycle of violence, of killing, of revenge, needed to be stopped, and yet…
And yet, she was nowhere near strong enough to do what Hashirama single handedly did. Not because she did not have the might of chakra, no, even now, half dead as she was, she could best all the strongest fighters of this era and come out on top. No, it was not about might, it was never about the strength of chakra.
No, it was about the strength of mind, and no one, not even Tobirama, had the same mental strength as his brother did.
No one who could have welcomed the killers of his own brother with open arms and a smile on his face, creating an equal partnership with them, creating an entirely new system with them, granting them the honor of becoming the founding members of the Village Hidden in the Leaves.
She kept repeating Hashirama's words inside her mind as she struggled to reign in her raging emotions. The overwhelming urge to kill that sprouted in her mind that the fox pounced upon, the wish to raze down entire villages to the ground for daring to hurt her family.
The only thing that was stopping her from marching to the villages and demanding the heads of the Kage involved, was Hashirama's words.
"You were always so stupid, Hashirama," She muttered to him, as she smiled through the pain, the rage, the hate, as the sunny face of Hashirama appeared in her mind, warding off the negative emotions, emotions that the fox thrived upon. She stood up, ready to tell the little monkey that she would not go on rampaging out of the village anytime soon.
Also, this little incident gave her fresh insight on how to better design the next seal. Although it was a grave burden, she had to pass on the fox to someone. Kushina was chosen expressly for this purpose and a pang of sorrow passed her as she thought of the life that lay ahead of the young Uzumaki.
Dismissing the barrier covering the seal room, she sensed the lone ANBU that was stationed outside her house. Chakra chains sprouted from her back, neatly folding up the photo album and sealing it into the vault underneath her house.
Some of the chains wiped off the seals etched into the walls of the chakra sealed room. It was something that she had designed after Tobirama's death. The only way to truly dispel the seal line etched into the room was to use the Uzumaki chakra chains, a fully realised Kekkei Genkai that the fox wouldn't be able to use even if he was able to get past the Seal on her belly.
Making sure that the seals were properly disposed of, something that was of paramount importance considering the level of seals in the room, she took one step out of the room and was about to head to the poor ANBU stationed outside when…
Her chakra exploded, for the second time in the day as she rushed straight to the Hokage Tower, restraint all but forgotten as she blasted past the walls of her house, past the walls of the Senju clan compound, breaking apart the pavement under her bare feet as she jumped through the walls of the Hokage Tower, the Fuinjutsu enhanced walls buckling under her chakra aura as she arrived into the Hokage Office, coming face to face with the Boogeyman of the Uzumaki.
Ken, short for Kenta Uzumaki.
"Hiya Mito! How you doin',"
"Mito-sama! Is everything alright?" Hirzuen's concern could be felt through his aura but her attention was not on him. It was on making sure that the face in front of her matched with the one of the renegade Uzumaki she knew of.
The one who tried to blow up the Ancestral Barrier surrounding Uzu, the one who had to be sealed away by Arashi-sama himself, dying in the process as Kenta was sealed in one of the experimental dimensional prisons. Arashi-sama had deemed Kenta too much of a threat to the current Shinobi World and had summarily disposed of him to the mercy of the space storms.
"Miss me?" The shining red eyes reminded her of the vile Doujutsu that Kenta had apparently made for himself.
