If You Could Hear My Heart

Chapter 1432: Young Master Song’s Acting Is Not Bad

"Treating me to breakfast here? No way, that's too cheap. I know of a good place for morning tea." Song Heng raised an eyebrow.

Xiao Mo gave him a cold glance and didn't respond. Instead, he pushed past him, hands in the pockets of his trench coat, walking inside without changing his expression.

Song Heng watched his retreating figure intently for several moments. How arrogant!

Could it be that Xia Chuqing likes this type?

The first time he saw Xiao Mo, he felt his aura was strong. Seeing him again today, he's also very indifferent.

Song Heng had no choice but to follow Xiao Mo inside. After all, this man had piqued his interest!

He was quite curious about this man. Judging by his demeanour, he must be someone important in C City. But he had seen many of C City's elites before, and he had no recollection of this man.

This breakfast restaurant was very distinctive, not too crowded, and Xiao Mo chose a seat by the window to sit down.

He seemed like a regular, casually speaking to the waiter.

Song Heng knew this place wasn't cheap either. Since someone else was paying, he leisurely ordered a few pricey items, such as crab roe buns.

Sunshine poured in through the window, casting light on Xiao Mo's trench coat and his face, making his sharp features appear all the more profound.

Song Heng took a glance at Xiao Mo. He was indeed good-looking.

But at first sight, he could tell that this kind of man definitely had no shortage of admirers.

"My name is Song Heng. May I ask for your honorable surname?" Song Heng took the initiative to make conversation.

"There's no need for you to know." Xiao Mo said indifferently.

It seems that Xia Chuqing hadn't told Song Heng about his existence.

Song Heng also had his pride, nearly bursting with anger, but he held back for the sake of the breakfast.

"What do you do for a living, sir? I don't think I've ever seen you before. What do you want to talk to me about?"

"To talk about Xia Chuqing." Xiao Mo said blandly.

"Chuqing, huh, she just got on a plane. Why didn't you talk to her in person? Are you interested in her?"

"Song Heng, you know everything about the Xia Family, don't you?"

Xiao Mo spoke bluntly, his dark eyes staring directly at Song Heng, observing every expression on his face.

"Sir, although my family are neighbors with the Xia Family, how could I possibly know everything about them? I'm not a parasite of their house, right?" Song Heng said with a smile.

"I'm talking about the recent incident, the Discipline Inspection Commission." Xiao Mo hinted but didn't elaborate further.

He had already seen through Song Heng; this young man seemed naive, but in reality, he was sharper than anyone else.

"Hm? What? I haven't been home for a while, what's the news? Tell me about it, sir." Song Heng feigned a curious look towards Xiao Mo.

One was mature and composed, the other casual and unrestrained, but neither yielded to the other; their eyes locked.

Xiao Mo's index finger lightly tapped on the rosewood table. The atmosphere was subtly tense, and neither broke the silence.

After a while, Xiao Mo slightly curled his lips and said to Song Heng, "Aren't you the Xia Family's neighbor? What happened, your father didn't tell you that there are plainclothes officers from the Discipline Inspection Commission staying at the Xia's place?"

"That's true?" Song Heng frowned, skeptical, "You must be joking, Uncle Xia is an honest official. What would the Discipline Inspection Commission want with him?"

"Young Master Song's acting is not bad."

"I really don't know about it."

"Heh." Xiao Mo chuckled, then fell silent.

"Wait, are you investigating me?" Song Heng suddenly realized.

"Know yourself and know your enemy, that's all." Xiao Mo took a sip of tea, his gaze casually sweeping across Song Heng.

"What else do you know?" Song Heng heightened his alertness; this man was not to be trifled with.

"I also know that the Song family's company is currently holding a tender, which appears to be the largest one this year. It's the most significant for the Song family, but for the competitors, it's an insignificant little project that could be taken or left."

"What are you trying to say?" Song Heng asked bluntly, staring straight at Xiao Mo.

Who is this man exactly? His mind was racing.

The Song family was indeed holding a tender, and the competitor was a branch of Shen Group. As Xiao Mo had said, for Shen's, it was dispensable, but not for the Song family—they regarded it highly.

"Let's make a deal," Xiao Mo proposed. "You may not breathe a word about Old Xia's situation to Xia Chuqing, and also, forbid anyone else from telling Xia Chuqing about it."

"That simple?" Song Heng was skeptical, "What's in it for me?"

Song Heng had known about Xia Yongfang's situation for a while now; he had just so happened to visit home a few days earlier, and it seemed to be quite serious.

But, Xia Chuqing was unaware of it.

"It's that simple," Xiao Mo spoke nonchalantly, "In return, that little project, I'll give it to the Song family."

Song Heng narrowed his eyes. That project wasn't a little project for anyone.

"You have the authority to make decisions about the tender? Don't set me up. After all, I don't even know who you are," Song Heng said.

"You'll find out eventually."

"What's your motive for doing this? Why do you care about Chuqing and the Xia family's affairs?" Song Heng asked in confusion. "If I'm not mistaken, Chuqing seems to have stopped liking you."

"She doesn't like me; she likes you?" Xiao Mo's eyes narrowed.

"..." Song Heng glared at him.

Xiao Mo laughed: "Go eat breakfast."

Song Heng always felt a dangerous aura emanating from this man. He didn't understand him at all, but this man seemed to understand him very well.

He was the same age as Xia Chuqing, so naturally, he was eight years younger than this man, and in comparison, he really was a bit green.

"Sir, you should at least tell me your name, shouldn't you? If my family suddenly gets a big project for no reason, I won't even know who my benefactor is!" Song Heng took a bite of the freshly delivered steamed bun.

The sun gradually rose, and the light fell onto the mahogany table, making it shimmer slightly.

"How is it for no reason?" replied Xiao Mo lightly. "Didn't you remember what I said?"

"..." Song Heng gritted his teeth, "I remember it, but I can't betray a friend. Such a big incident has happened in Chuqing's family, what if she doesn't know about it, what will she do later?"

"Oh right, I forgot to mention, nobody is allowed to interfere with Old Xia's family's affairs."

Xiao Mo's voice carried a veiled warning, both threat and enticement.

Song Heng grew even more suspicious: "What are you trying to do? Chuqing merely had a crush on you; you wouldn't take revenge, would you? My father still wants to help Uncle Xia."

"Sister?" Xiao Mo picked on the word, "Seems like you have a pretty good relationship."

"No, I'm being serious here!" Song Heng got somewhat anxious, "If you don't let my family get involved, Uncle Xia will be finished."

"If you don't agree, your family will be finished," Xiao Mo said calmly, a slight smile curling at his lips.

"Forget it, talking reason with you is pointless," Song Heng waved his hand dismissively, glaring at him, "But you must promise me, you won't take revenge on the Xia family, especially not Chuqing!"

"If I wanted to take revenge, would I have allowed her to study abroad?"

Song Heng couldn't understand his words, but he could see that this man had money and power; if he really wanted to do something, it would be effortless for him.

Song Heng took another bite of the steamed bun, his mind racing swiftly.
