Chapter 1433: Such Strong Tastes
After finishing two steamed buns, Song Heng looked up, already having an idea in mind.
"What are your feelings towards Chuqing?" Song Heng asked.
He and Xia Chuqing were childhood friends. He simply couldn't stand by and watch her being bullied. If this man had ulterior motives, Song Heng was ready to drop the deal with the Song Family.
"That's none of your business." Xiao Mo wasn't prepared to answer.
Song Heng knew it, this kind of man was definitely a sly fox.
"Do you have a family?" Song Heng probed indirectly.
"That's even less your business."
"So, what should I be asking?" Song Heng ground his teeth.
"For instance, whether you want to order anything else." Xiao Mo stood up. "If not, I'll go pay the bill. Mister Song, please enjoy your meal at your leisure."
"If you don't like Chuqing, just make it clear. Don't lead her on. Although she's good at her studies, she's quite naive," Song Heng called out. "If you play with her feelings, I'll be the first one who won't let you off the hook."
Xiao Mo's silhouette paused for a moment, but he didn't turn around, heading straight to the cashier.
After paying the bill, Xiao Mo drove away.
Song Heng glanced at the table, noting that Xiao Mo had barely eaten anything.
"Damn, I should have ordered more." Song Heng looked at the breakfast spread. "It's rare for someone to treat so generously. I should have grabbed some for my dorm mates too."
Song Heng continued eating while playing with his phone, sending a photo he'd taken secretly to a friend.
"Old Jiang, this guy in the photo I just sent, help me check him out. Who is he?"
Soon after, he received an "OK" emoji in response.
Less than a minute later, a text message arrived: "Damn, you're so clueless. Don't you recognize this man?"
"Who is it?" Song Heng frowned.
He stared at the photo himself for a moment but truly didn't recognize the person, although he looked vaguely familiar.
"Xiao Mo!" the reply came back with just two words.
"Xiao Mo?" Song Heng frowned, then had a sudden realization.
No wonder Xiaodan said that if Xiao Mo decided to give the deal to the Song Family, he would just do so. It turned out to be true; the Deputy General Manager of Shen Group was indeed this generous.
But what's his angle?
What good is it for Xiao Mo if he doesn't tell Xia Chuqing the truth?
Seemingly, there's no benefit for Xiao Mo, but it's beneficial for Xia Chuqing.
If Xia Chuqing learned about the troubles at home, she would certainly rush back from France. Not only would she come back from France, but she probably wouldn't be able to concentrate on her studies thereafter.
This was a major issue. Xia Chuqing also deeply loved her parents; if she learned about this, she would definitely try every means to seek help from anyone she could. If at that time someone had ill intentions to take advantage of Xia Chuqing, that naive girl would likely get burned.
Such a state was the most dangerous.
So, Xiao Mo wanted him to help keep this news under wraps.
At this thought, Song Heng realized that Xiao Mo was very clever; he had already answered his earlier question with his actions: What are your feelings towards Chuqing?
The phone buzzed again, and a message popped up: "Song Heng, why are you checking up on this guy? Need any more info?"
Song Heng replied: "No need."
Could he still be unaware of who Xiao Mo was?
He definitely couldn't match Xiao Mo's capabilities. If Xiao Mo did not want him to meddle in the Xia Family's affairs, then so be it, he preferred to be at ease.
But that didn't mean he could let Xiao Mo trample all over him. Today, when he asked for Xiao Mo's name, the man refused to say.
So, Song Heng sent another text: "Five minutes, send me Xiao Mo's office phone number."
Those brothers of his definitely couldn't get Xiao Mo's mobile number, but the office number should be feasible.
Three minutes later, a string of numbers was sent over.
Song Heng glanced at it, whistled, and leisurely finished the rest of his breakfast.
After eating, guessing that Xiao Mo had begun his workday, he returned the call.
"Thanks for the breakfast, President Xiao," Song Heng deliberately said in a relaxed tone.
"You're welcome." Xiao Mo coldly hung up the phone.
He didn't like dealing with young brats, but this Song Heng was clever; he had quickly found out his name and his office landline number.
It seems that Song Heng is very smart; he didn't pick the wrong person.
Song Heng hung up the phone proudly, wondering if Xiao Mo would dare to blatantly bully him in the future.
...
Xiao Mo had been in the office all morning, sleepless the previous night, and arrived at the airport early. His head was somewhat aching.
After handling a few contracts simply, he closed his eyes and silently leaned back in his chair.
Perhaps he was too tired, but before long, he fell asleep.
This time, he even had a dream. In it, he took Xia Chuqing to the Lavender Field.
After that, they sat in a teahouse, where Xia Chuqing seriously asked him that question: "Xiao Mo, have you ever liked me? Even for a moment."
Just as he was about to speak, someone knocked on the office desk.
"You've been so tired lately." It was Shen Chi's voice.
Xiao Mo opened his eyes and touched his forehead, saying indifferently, "President Shen."
"If I didn't know you better, I'd think you'd gone to some club to find a 'princess'." Shen Chi glanced at him; indeed, his face showed fatigue.
Xiao Mo laughed: "Does President Shen really trust me that much? Maybe I really did go out last night, and found more than one."
"You have such taste," Shen Chi also curved his lips slightly.
"Did you come to see me for something?"
"About Bai Man." Shen Chi reminded him.
Xiao Mo perked up, seriously saying to Shen Chi: "Someone has been looking in Singapore. The island is sparsely populated, but there are a few villas. That address is one of them."
"Then what?"
"There were a few gatekeepers, but all said, Bai Man disappeared over a month ago."
"Where did she go?" asked Shen Chi.
"They don't even know how or exactly when Bai Man left; they just knew that during that time, Bai Man always locked herself in her bedroom alone. So when she escaped, no one saw anything."
"Why did no one report to Bai Xuan?"
"They said they did report, but Bai Mansion's phone was unreachable, so they gave up," Xiao Mo said. "The main reason is that Bai Xuan hadn't sent them money for a long while."
Shen Chi fell into thought, his eyebrows slightly furrowed.
Xiao Mo continued: "Most of the servants are Filipino maids, with a language barrier, plus Bai Man's bad temperament, no one dared to meddle. Bai Man was always locked at home, with no signal, and had no cell phone."
"Do you have any clues about her?" asked Shen Chi.
"Not at the moment," Xiao Mo said. "I'm still having people search; it's an isolated island, and if Bai Man wanted to escape, she would definitely need outside help. So, I had someone check which vessels passed by there in the past month."
"If she's been missing for a month now, she may have already escaped," Shen Chi said with a serious look.
"That's what I think too, and my guess is that she might already be back in the country," Xiao Mo's expression also darkened.
Both understood without saying, Bai Man wouldn't stay overseas; if she were to return to the country, she would definitely come to C City.
"President Shen, what's the plan now?" Xiao Mo asked. "Should we cast a wide net in C City first?"
